She seems to be following in the footsteps of her predecessor, the state the country is in was inherited from the previous government who were heavily involved in the drug cartels, robbing the citizens to pay for their retirements, driving the country deeper and deeper into debt in the process with incredibly high youth unemployment and other major issues. it will take years to recover - if they ever do - but I doubt the current [and relatively new] govt will last long enough to make a dent in the issues they face.
Marquez deserves to have her reputation further sullied. Colombia is a very poor country & so many people are suffering there. She then decides to spend an insane amount of money on 5 star hotels & other accommodations for these 2 grifters. If she thought this would help tourism, it was a really stupid idea. The average tourist isn't spending their money on luxury hotels & expensive restaurants. For me, I've always wanted to travel to Europe & the UK. I would be perfectly fine with modest accommodations because I want to see the historic sites & learn about those countries. My Scottish clan still has a castle, a clan Chieftain, etc & the remnants of the original castle from the 1300s. It is my fondest wish to see it but unless I win the lottery, I'm not going anywhere. It is a stunningly beautiful country and it is nowhere near as unsafe as people make out. There are a only a couple of places on the Brazilian and Ecuadorian borders that are considered unsafe for tourists. The rest of the country is as it is everywhere with parts of cities not recommended for wandering about after dark, and watching your valuables if you are stupid enough to keep your cell phone and wallet in your back pocket and wear expensive jewelry. Paris, Rome, and Barcelona are the pick-pocket capitals of the world, and they are not in Colombia.

As a widow I live in the US on $1390. each month. Things are so hard and I struggle to make ends meet. I can't live alone so I have to have a roommate. If I had just a fraction of what H and MM have I could live on that for 10 lifetimes. It is so sad to see all that money thrown away when so many people are living in poverty. Many people are worse off than me. I do have a roof over my head and some money coming in. Lots of people don't. Neil I have been to Colombia and loved my experience but with the paranoia, disrespect and distaste for poor old Harry and poor old MM I feel they have not managed to provide any reason for people to also experience it. Private school children provided as human shields to them, near empty venues for their uneducated, inexperienced, boring word salads, inappropriate taxpayer funded jolly for millionaires whilst people are living in severe poverty, politics, smoke and mirrors.
It wasn't just 300 police officers Neil, it was 3000 troops protecting them. It cost a huge sum.

As a widow I live in the US on $1390. each month. Things are so hard and I struggle to make ends meet. I can't live alone so I have to have a roommate. If I had just a fraction of what H and MM have I could live on that for 10 lifetimes. It is so sad to see all that money thrown away when so many people are living in poverty. Many people are worse off than me. I do have a roof over my head and some money coming in. Lots of people don't. So when I see very privileged people complaining about everything and literally squandering millions of dollars on senseless nonsense I just shake my head.
These grifters are their own downfall, a laughing stock in the eyes of the world.

My conclusion for recent times is of a narcissist obstinate and obdurate once set on an objective unwilling to change his mind even if it turns out to be palpably wrong. Certainly a visionary in some areas but often a krank in others. He is not the delightful grandpa which mask he has developed.
We can see he is unable to face difficult issues and resolve them. Weak some would say. The major problem with Sussexes has been allowed to slide.

I have heard that it is a wonderful place to visit but I have heard a lot of frightening reports as well. About real dangers in Nigeria and Colombia. I think the repeated narrative about not enough secuity in the UK is just cover for the fact they have no children to bring with them if they try to visit

I don't know about the rest of the world, but we Californians associate Colombia with extremely dangerous drug cartels.
And many Colombians that come here to further their trade. I have met six different Colombian families over the years. Only one were decent, kind and warm. The others were quite affable upon a first meeting but would cut you down over the slightest grievance. They were still very much dealing and brought their turf wars and corruption to their new homelands.
