I m a pastor and i can tell you with the fear of God that tithing is the major source of livelihood for us.
It is a practice we pastors try to enforce on members just for our own selfish and greedy desires.

Peter never forced anyone to go and sell their properties. It was free will giving and nonetheless, what was the money used for? To pile up in the bank? It was disbursed to the poor and needy such that none among them lacked anything... tithe today is for the pastors and their families, not even the widows, orphans and the needy are taken care of by the church. ..

In Acts 4, Peter did not specifically command people to sell all they had and bring it to the apostles. Instead, the passage describes how the early Christians voluntarily shared their possessions. Jesus Christ wasn't recognised as a priest by the priests and scribes of his days hence he didn't live in the temple to receive tithe. Therefore if you are priest after the order of Christ, you do not take tithe as your master didn't take tithe. Peter didn't take tithe.. tithe was sent to the temple but Christ and the disciples ministered in the wilderness and the streets. Note that free will giving is different from tithe
