Great question and thanks for watching the series! As far as we know, they can't, which is really frustrating. Here's an answer from the Missouri Bicycle and Pedestrian Federation (mobikefed.org/content/bicycles-amtrak-missouri): "Note that tandems, trailers, and long recumbent bicycles may be difficult or impossible to take on the River Runner, due simply to the geometry of the trains that requires carrying bicycles up a few steps, around a tight corner, and then storing the bicycle in available luggage storage locations. Please check with Amtrak before trying to take any of these on a trip." You might be able to transport them disassembled as shipped baggage, but there's no real accommodation for non-standard bikes.
They call this rails and trails where is the rail at normally all places except for the case trail have always left the rail in for rail enthusiast to take their pump cars and pedal rail cycles we had to be the most unorganized state they took the rail out and screwed everything up The rail needs to be put back in all across the gate trail and a place for bicycles along the side so everyone can actually enjoy it just not people only on bicycles or horseback
