    Well done as the first motoring journo to recognise the steering as slow. It hasn’t said much for the profession that almost every review to date has got the steering wrong. It’s not vague, wandering, constantly in need of correction or any other nonsense I’ve seen. It tracks very true and responds to small adjustments - just slower than a typical rack and pinion. I have no doubt that, in the hands of the ignorant, a slow response leads to winding on more and then constant over-correction in both directions and their own discomfort and published nonsense.

    I took delivery of mine about 4 weeks ago, and I am very happy with it. I have driven several 70 series Toyotas over a wide range of conditions and frankly there's no comparison: the Ineos feels far more modern, from ergonomics to performance to ride to noise, while still having the live axles and full chassis. It is light years ahead of the old LR Defender too, and frankly I wouldn't touch the new Defender - too many reliability issues and too many things to go wrong and strand you. I think the vehicle that is the direct competitor is probably a 300 series Cruiser, and I did consider one, but the Ineos seemed to me to be more geared to what I want in a vehicle. Opinions no doubt will vary.

      Opinions do vary - but ....and my wife loves ours... The foot well is a fury; it's a no-brainer after a day. Even stuck on the Hume Highway, it cruises so well... Mild weirdness with Carplay, but in the old days, we had none of that... Great vehicle! The wife suggested she liked it better than our 200 series; she thinks the Grenadier is quieter! Of course, she knows it all...

      @@jmpersonal2402This or a fully loaded nissan patrol middle east spec? Nissan patrol. Can accommodate 34.3 inch tyre in its stock settings without any lift. Grenadier though being offroad friendly cannot accommodate a bigger wheel than 285/65/18 but you dont need a genuine 33 in that car imo.

    There has been a lot of commentary on the steering that I am yet to experience. I find the steering precise in that the vehicle goes directly where you point it immediately. There are more turns lock to lock which give you a bit more to do when navigating a tight round about. Take your hands off the steering wheel whilst driving and it goes dead straight. The biggest negative for the vehicle is its turning circle. I've had a month of ownership and it drives way better on road than I was expecting. As far as the foot well goes, I'm 185cm tall and find the seating position upright and comfortable.

    Great car. I've driven a couple. Main issues for a long distance overlander: Fuel tank is paltry for Australian distances; I didn't like the footrest under the left foot ((it intrudes quite a bit); Payload is less than promised; The overhead switches (which sound like a great idea) are hard to discern when you need to switch something in a hurry.
    But they are lovely to drive and very confidence inspiring.
    I hope they do well. I'm waiting for the Series II to be released in a few years with feeback from this first release.

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  7 місяців тому

      Great summary! I'm sure we'll see some aftermarket support for extra fuel tanks underneath (if there is space), but payload could eventually be an issue for the more hardcore tourer. But that's the same for just about every car out there. - Sam

    • @jerrymyahzcat
      @jerrymyahzcat 7 місяців тому

      Yeah the footrest is an issue because it’s not really the footrest - it’s a stupid intrusion because the exhaust pipe goes through underneath it.

      @@Drivecomau Not for a Ford Ranger, which can be equipped with a canopy over the bed or otherwise equipped to suite. Plenty of passenger room and much more cargo room and around a one ton payload. Far better equipped with lots of variants for every pocket. Tows the same 3.5 tons as Grandier. Far and away nicer to drive with a choice of engines, superb electric power steering and better international back-up. In the UK we can buy nearly two Wildtrak for the price of one Grenadier and there is plenty of room underneath for an extra tank, which there is not in Grenadier. Full time 4wd in both and far more safety equipment in the Ford/VW/Toyota/Isuzu ute.

    I watched more than 40 off-road videos of the Grenadier, and unfortunately it does not rise to the level of off-roading. Most of the places where the Grenadier is tested can be driven by semi-saloon cars. I do not think that the Grenadier is capable of testing one of the Camel Trophy in Brazil for the Land Rover Defender.

      Ineos have spent a lot of $$$ to R & D and bring this to market.
      One factory that has max capacity of about 35,000 vehicles.
      Ineos don’t have massive capacity to spread all of their costs on, hence, this higher overhead is built into price of every vehicle.

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  7 місяців тому +1

      Hi!
      As it currently stands the Grenadier doesn't have a ANCAP or Euro NCAP crash-test rating and unfortunately doesn't look like its going to get one anytime soon, but we can say that the 2024 Ineos Grenadier has no autonomous emergency brake, blind spot monitoring, lane-keep assistance and traffic sign recognition. However, features like electronic stability and traction control, trailer stability assist, rear park assist, and tyre pressure monitoring are included.
      Ineos covers vehicles with a five-year unlimited kilometre warranty, but hasn't made service pricing available, or set in place a capped-price program. Services are set every 12 months or 15,000km.
      Hope this helps! All this information and more can be found in our in-depth review: www.drive.com.au/reviews/2024-ineos-grenadier-review-australian-first-drive/
