Omg, I have that same lamp! I love the mercury glass with the linen shade, I got it 4-5 yrs ago an I love it!! .
When I think of class I think of: clean house, everything put together well, coordinating colors and styles, no clutter, elegant soft textures, real wood(nothing plastic), beautiful shiny glass and mirrors, fresh cut flowers, nothing out of place, everything has a place, attention to details, fresh clean smell, natural and soft lighting...clean and pressed beds, no fake flowers or plants, fresh linens and soft music.

When I think of a classy person the first person that comes to mind is my Grandma. She didn’t have a lot but what
She did was very well taken care of. He clothing was clean and pressed. Her home was clean and bright. Lots of light and plants. She was Greek and made the most healthy and delicious food. Everything was made with love. Lastly, she had the most beautiful smile and would never say a bad word about anyone. I think I really comes down to making the most of what you have and deep appreciation.

I've had to leave NOTES in places where his leaving things out could be dangerous...I'm done being his Mom. My mom’s best friend, Arlene, was this classy-lady inspiration for me. Her home was always beautifully clean, it smelled like cinnamon-spice, and she and her husband were fantastic cooks. I have such wonderful memories of being in their home, they used the “good stuff” for their guests often, -China and crystal glasses, and it was such a lovely feeling of being warmly welcomed and celebrated. I try to create that experience for my guests, and also my own family.

One thing I always appreciate from a host (including myself) is when the dinner is largely done in advance so they aren't spending the first hour in front of the stove and oven trying to get everything done last minute. I have a rule of 5 mins. for myself. In the time before dinner while guests are there, I have 5 mins. I get to be in the kitchen and everything else has to be done before arrivals. So I can put in and take out of oven, saute a veggie, grab things from the fridge, etc., but all under a cumulative 5 mins. so guests aren't sitting there bored without your attention. This rule has served me well. Takes planning, but it's worth it. I've been to dinner parties where you barely see the host at all because they are cooking or cleaning the whole time. Have a discreet place ready to put the dirty dishes and do them after the guests leave. Be with your guests. They are the important ingredient that needs to be enjoyed. Preset the table. Precut the vegetables and refrig the platters, have a ramekin ready with spices/sauces that you can micro a few secs right when needed. All you should have to do is take the food from the oven/fridge/stovetop and take to the table. Spending time with YOU is what the people will remember so be sure to do that. LOL

The individuals I have found classy over the years were usually older women who had their hair fixed with nothing out of place. A lovely everyday or special occasion dress on that is tidy. Small dainty earrings even if they were dangles, a light fragrance, and most of all a sweet smile that melts your heart and direct attention that makes you feel special in a way no one else can.

Classy people do not perceive themselves as classy, others assign that label to them. A warm personality, well kept appearance, a graceful demeanor, inform others the person is grounded, understands themselves and will more than likely understand them. In my opinion our homes are a reflection of ourselves and we should keep our environment real. I am not a believer of contrived home decor.

Good quality is also a sign of a classy home. Wood or solid core doors, solid heavy door knobs, upgraded moulding, furniture that is sturdy and made well, solid faucets and hardware…really do make a difference in how your home is perceived. I bought a really nice home that lacked most of these things. I’ve been upgrading slowly. It makes all the difference!

I think classiness has little, if anything, to do with money or things, but with attitude of heart. One could live in a gorgeous mansion but demean, if not destroy, its ambiance with arrogant, self-centered behavior.
My grandmother had very modest means. Yet she and her home were rich in graciousness and hospitality-always exuding peace, patience, self-control, gentleness, kindness, goodness and joy. Her humble home’s signature fragrance was the lingering aroma of freshly made biscuits,

In times with very little extra $ or more ease I tried to provide warmth & welcome in my home. I love uncluttered spaces but homey with a simple vase of nature, books (old friends!) inviting very light natural scent & yes, quiet music & a prominent candle. A big basket to stash my kids’ or dogs’ toys is a must. I also love an inviting place to sit with a pillow or blanket. I have kept a little dish of revolving candies or chocolates next to the front door for years. When a guest is over I try not to be busy in the kitchen & just be more present. Some people have commented that I must be a perfectionist or look “perfect”. That breaks my heart because really the way I set my home is an act of love from me that says I care about you & want you make yourself at home. I think I’m trying to recreate the way my loving grandma made me feel at home.

Regarding chipped nail polish, this year I discovered Kiss nails ($6-10 for 24). They're glue on. I've watched a few UA-cam videos on how to get them perfect (rough up your nail, push cuticles back, file fake nail to your perfect fit, thin line of included glue down the middle, press on for five seconds and you're good for a week). Avoid spending $60 at the salon! I get compliments all the time. They come in a variety of lengths and colors, designs or sparkle.

One of my biggest pet peeves is smelling a person’s cologne or fragrance that is so strong that it makes me want to leave the area to get a breath of fresh air. Being European my mother always dressed elegantly even when grocery shopping and she applied her fragrance sparingly. She was a great role model for me.

  • @dianaduganitz6172

I loved this. My mother who has passed on now was always a very classy lady even though we grew up in what others would describe as a very poor home; she always made the house homey in a classy way and welcomed people into our home so beautifully with her Italian style and warmth. She was alway cooking in the kitchen and singing so beautifully. Everyday she would put herself together…her hair and the way she wore her clothes even if they were older and she couldn’t afford newer clothes she took care of what she had impeccably. Now as an adult I’ve had many comments especially when I was working on how I always look “put together” and people think I’m “classy”. I’ve had to get used to those comments because when I was younger I took that as them thinking I was “snobby”….. I know better now and smile inside when I think of mom.

Classy for me is clean, neat and lightly scented. I visited a gentleman's home and it was a colonial style. Once I entered, I noticed the light scent of what I perceived to be some sort of candle that had not yet been lit. Like when u are in a store and remove the lid of a candle. It smelled like he had maybe three of those sitting around his home, on that level. I couldn't even tell u what his furniture style or anything at this point. I really enjoyed that scent. It wasn't heavy, feminine or masculine. It was soft but present. His home was quiet and I don't know if that's how he rolled everyday, as I was there on a short visit with someone else. I like all of the above however I enjoy jazz, gospel or a little classical music in my home. I like a bit of art, color flow (no matter the style of furniture, etc), a summer breeze, comfortable furniture and no lingering food smells, unless you're cooking. I also enjoy candles lit on any night. Any-whooo, that's all classy to me

I have 2 friends that have gorgeous homes no matter where they are living (NYC small apartments). they always decorate full not half done which I feel that your average person that is not going to drop 10k-20k to decorate stuggles with, half done. Elegant sophisticated homes are completed looking spaces. i call it "pulled together". Also agree completely if all of us just stopped and looked around each room and put things away and pulled all the visual clutter out of a room you would have an immediate calm and elegant feel to a room! :-) great reminder video HofV

I saw a recent video in which a lady showed how to make a bed properly, with no special linens! Oh, the care and attention to detail! She made the bed properly with just an older comforter and a top sheet over it. She washed the linens in special detergent, ironed the linens, sprayed them with linen fragrance, did the hospital corners. I felt soooo relaxed and special just watching the care that went into it. Beautiful and heartwarming to know that we can be content with whatever we have and make it special with cleanliness and gratitude and care! Lovely. Love this topic, Valentina!

Hello, Valentina! Thank you for your thoughtful review of elements of classiness. When you mentioned listening to outdoor sounds, & the sounds of the crickets, I felt quite sad. I have lived in my home for 35 years, & this is the first summer that there has been no sound of crickets chirping at night. Listening to recordings helps, but it's just not the same. Climate change is upon our world. Ah well, I do enjoy your uplifting & encouraging videos. Thank you for sharing your insights & inspirations.
    Sending you gratitude & love....

I like to keep a couple empty lidded boxes throughout the house to store random things and when it’s full I go through and toss what isn’t needed or my kids forgot about, put away the things that need to go away… really helps keep life mess out of soght

Yes!!!! Totally agree. I am feeling inspired to clean today. Have to say that I love your office and your vlog presentations. Saw a black and white pencil drawing Of a leopard on another channel and all I could think of was how great that would look behind YOU when you vlog. It was very large and under glass and mainly head depiction with a lot of white background. Designers never retire. The mind is still creating yet another vignette.
    Wishing you well Valentina.

A nice bell could work too. I remember a friend of mine growing up had the room to room intercom. You could play music on it throughout the house, which was neat. Or, put talk radio/morning news on in the AM and not have to worry about bringing your phone or bluetooth speaker with you, all around the house as you get ready.

I get a classy vibe when a house is clean; also, when is not a room made in a furniture room, all the pieces matching, the rug, and the two lamps, this just seems put together with no thought. A home to me is classy when is not a shrine to something like titles and trophy’s, etc or pictures everywhere. Thanks for the video 🌸🌸🌸

Love all the info in the shorter video 👏👏👏! Can you share your choices for the “warm” lightbulbs you suggest? I’m always confused if it’s like daylight or warm white, etc (I def can’t do the cool, blueish white light or those fluorescent bulb colors ! 🤔🤔🤔? I need a warm white task lighting that doesn’t distort colors ! The cool white lights are too blueish and the “Edison-type” yellow-colored lightbulbs look too gold in my home! They actually change the color in my room and don’t give enough task lighting above my island and in lamps for me! I prefer a warm, crisp white light that’s doesn’t look so yellowy or make my whites look off-white ! I’ve bought so many different light bulbs that were the wrong color ☹️😞😆! I could use this help for my recessed lights too! I want all the lights to be the same color snd not mismatched warm/cool lightbulbs! !
Also a link , please for your top two favorite Hotel fragrances! 😉❤️

If a pet is in a classy home, it's well trained. Dogs don't jump on, bite, or slobber all over guests. They dont beg for or steal food. And there's no animal smells. I've visited houses I thought were elegant and welcoming until I met the pet(s).

Our home is always clean and uncluttered it gives me peace that anyone could walk through the door and I would not be embarrassed to invite them in. I don’t wear perfume but I burn candles in each bathroom that permeates through the house and always play the same music in every room so no matter where our guests go they will hear the same music, even outdoors as living in Arizona we use our backyard to entertain. It’s the way I was raised and the way I am most comfortable.

Do you have a video on paint undertones? For example: I bought brushed brass fixtures for my exterior. They will be under a wrap around porch so it is shaded. I am wondering what type of white to choose? Does undertone of paint make a difference with the fixtures you have? Does the amount of light in the area affect what undertone to choose?

I know you are super busy, but if you get an opportunity I have a crazy question! I can not quite nail down my design style, but I know what I like when I see it. Some of the pictures you had in the video are so me!! (Hallway with black doors, sitting room with tortoise shell on wall, and the one with the wood table against the window and the little chair in front) What style is that? And would you be able to tell me where you found those images so I can find more?! I'm so sorry for asking such a weird question, but I am so frustrated! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my long comment!

I agree that tidiness is important, and so is flow. Indeed, it is NOT about money. It is about cleanliness, appearance, being at ease, and comfortable around others.
No stress. No anxiety. A classy person exudes kindness and confidence, not arrogance. A classy home is the same. It is visually appealing and comfortable to be in. Elegant without being untouchable.
Getting a guest a drink or cup of coffee should be easy and appear effortless. The hosts may have worked like mad preparing behind the scenes, but the guests should only see effortless, sumptuous entertaining.
I knew a lady who made a production of bringing out a plate of cookies. You would think the plate was hot and weighed fifty pounds. She grunted and huffed, and.... just needed all eyes on herself. Unfortunately, my husband does the same thing. Grrrr. I get around the me-me-meeees by careful timing - arranging for things to be ready before guests arrive.
When company is staying with us, I do my best and let go of the rest. Open floor plans make it difficult. Some people just need to be at the center of everything and in control. My dear friend is like that. She gets in the middle of the kitchen and starts messing with everything recipe. She says she's helping. No, she's making a me-me-meeeee scene. She has ruined more dishes fir more dinners than I can count. And we love her anyway.
Hmmmmm .... I think next visit, I will bring in the tall orange cones we use for training horses and put caution tape between them to set up a barrier around the kitchen. That might be real classy. LOL.

I love the my quiet moments as well, I don't like loud music, love candles, yes even the fake ones, and live plants. To me a classy person first takes care of their own appearance, their mind, their behavior, their conversation, language, and their home, is a great hostess without making people feel uncomfortable. The cent in your home is very important, the aviant you portray, friendliness, and being fun to be around, I don't like loud anything, that has zero class, my opinion.
