      You dismissed the Alvarez shown for $600, but did you see that it was a Yairi? For someone who I've noticed is into the Japanese guitars, I was surprised you didn't at least pick it up and inspect it. In case you didn't know, Yairi guitars are handmade and sold in the U.S. under the Alvarez name. They are NOT made BY Alvarez, they are made FOR Alvarez. If that guitar was in good shape, it was a great deal.

      I thought it was cute. He obviously edited this video and chose to leave those clips in, so there must be a reason. I think for Brad it's like a home movie, where he can look back and remember a certain point in time. An outing with his daughter, maybe. It's nice. Didn't you hear her say, "this is your kind of place" when they were looking at the pickups (transducers)?
      .

      Isn't that the truth! it's so hard to fight a stellar deal these days. But they can still be found. About 2 months ago, I bought a near mint condition 1965 L. Mozzani Classical Guitar, from facebook marketplace for $30. It was a an accidental find, I went to this guy in his early 80's house with my dad to help with a ladder that he was buying. The older gentleman and his wife were really nice and had a lot of nice things for sale in their garage, so I asked him if he had any musical instruments. After his wife reminded him that he had an old guitar, he went and found it. At first, I wasn't too impressed, it had old strings, was terribly out of tune, and needed adjustment along with being really dusty. I had no idea what it was, because I had never heard of Luigi Mozzani. However, it did sound nice, so I offered 30 and he thankfully accepted. I brought it home , cleaned it up, installed new strings and adjusted the action. Now it sounds and plays extremely well, plus it turns out that this guitar is fairly rare and worth at least $250, and I found one that sold for $700 on Italian Ebay. This was definitely a rare bargain find.

    • @taotuhao5969

      @@MarkSD Well actually I didn't. My Dad asked for me to help him pick up a ladder. He is the one who used the internet, I would never buy anything through Facebook Marketplace because it's mostly scams.
      However, the point of the original commenter wasn't about using the internet, it was about people having better knowledge of the absolute highest and lowest prices that the item is currently selling for. So it's harder to get a great underpriced deal.

    I think the art piece at the end is interesting because it doesn't only apply to the stuff we throw away but to gearheads as well (to a certain extent).

    What is it with used private music merchants and their prices?? There seldom is a day I don't view the used music section on CL or similar that I'm not shaking my head at all the listings. 99.9% of those that list used gear ask full retail for it. If I'm gonna pay full used retail, I want to know that I have some warranty and customer protection.. If I purchase a used MIM strat from a retailer, at the very LEAST know I have some protection in case their is an unknown defect, or for whatever reason the gear doesn't work for me. With private sales (either CL or like the dealers in this flea market video) when you buy something and walk away, the transaction is final... IMO, CL, flea markets and yard sales are intended to give a REAL used deal/price on a product. If your gonna ask full retail, rent some space and hang a sign..... geesh.....

      @TheGuitologist  4 роки тому +2

      I can certainly understand asking the retail prices. I'd do the same, maybe with a slight discount, and go from there on the haggling. Sometimes it just depends on how much you have invested in something.

    • @SixString_J5
      @SixString_J5 4 роки тому +2

      You have to consider the situation. When I price things for a garage sale or on Reverb I put it at full used price but make it clear I'm negotiable. Both parties know the difference between a fair offer and a low ball. In a flea market or yard sale and even in a brick and mortar store, as a buyer, you need to try to get a better price. If you think they are too high offer what you are willing to pay. They probably will say no, but they could say yes. Heck, even my sweetwater rep knows that I'm going to request he offer me his best price he can sell an item to me before I make a purchase and nine times out of ten he comes down.
      You tell them that you can order it elsewhere for the same price and that you want it for less to entice you into buying their gear. Simple.

    • @contrabandjoe7974
      @contrabandjoe7974 4 роки тому +2

      @@TheGuitologist Correct... and that is why 99% of stuff you see on CL usually ends up being sold to Music Go Round or Guitar Center for 50% of used retail. The Internet at least has provided an easy shopping guide as to true value. It's quite easy to surf out and view real prices guidelines.

    • @contrabandjoe7974
      @contrabandjoe7974 4 роки тому +1

      @@SixString_J5 Music Go Round and Guitar Center already give you a base line for what they paid for it. I've sold enough gear to them over the years to understand their purchase formula. As a general rule, MGR and GC offer you 50% of used retail for an outright purchase. They give you 60% of used retail value if you are trading something towards one of their products.. So if you see a Gibson LP Standard in their shop's for $1700, they paid approximately $850 for it.. So you start your negotiations with that in mind........

    Great video, Bradford. I wish we had cool stuff like the guitar swap meet and that vintage shop were you found the Celestion cab. The part of Florida where I live caters to tourism and consumer whoredom, so we don't have cool stuff like this. I enjoyed the art exhibit at the end, as well. The weirdness and diversity of your content make this one of my favorite channels, even though I still scream at the television when you work on anything solid state. Take care, Brother.

    I would have bought the loaded pickguard and parted it out to make a custom guitar. I do that.....but that Fender briefcase,though.... I would have snapped that up in one second. I've been looking for one.

    Interesting, I've never seen a market like that geared towards guitars and other things music here in Alberta. I really dug the art gallery at the end too,...those we have! Finally, and I have to agree with many other comments from folks on here, that Brad, your daughter stole the show with her teddy bear!! I remember taking my nephew when he was 4 or 5 to a boat and sportsman show and just seeing things through his eyes was half the fun! Have a great weekend!

    Killer Victrola! Check out Graham Alexander - he’s bought all of the RCA Victor IP and some go the Camden real estate. He’s also a musician how has played Paul Mc on Broadway and his dad plays bass in the Hooters. His song Biggest Fan is great! He’s maybe 30 but has a real reverence for the RCA history, being a Camden native

    Wow! Some of those prices made me realize how out of touch I am with the market! $600 for a stripped and modified musicmaster bass?!?!?
    I had one back in the day...it was a POS. original pickup was very weak. Some cool stuff at that flea market fer sure. You should give the blue eyed doggie its own channel..Always interesting ,thanks for the new video. Cheers!

    I think that Kay lap steel had an old P13 pick up in it. In LA they go for about what the guy was asking for the whole guitar. Every body wants a COODER caster out here. Those P13s are hard to find,

    I'm wondering if I worked on that musicmaster bass... Back in 2015, someone brought me a musicmaster that was refinished in black primer, and I did a fret level on it and cut a black pearl pickguard for it. He picked it up from a flea market in Massachusetts. Dude went around to lots of flea markets looking for gear. Would have loved to seen the pickguard come off because I wrote on the back of it and would know for sure if that's the same bass!
