- This episode of the series “Louisiana Legends” from August 3, 2001, features an interview with Archie Manning conducted by Gus Weill. Manning played college football for the University of Mississippi, or Ole Miss, from 1968-1970 and professional football for the New Orleans Saints from 1971-1982. He discusses: growing up in the farming town of Drew, Mississippi; his early attraction to athletics; how he first started playing the quarterback position; his high school baseball career; playing quarterback for Ole Miss; his memories of playing against LSU; being drafted early by the Saints; the New Orleans experience; sportsmanship; the lessons he learned from Ole Miss coach John Vaught; his sons, Cooper, Peyton and Eli; and his feelings about Louisiana.
I'd throw a block for Archie!!!!
You're going to really love Gus or hate his style. I'm an old man myself, but with all his head bobbing and little mannerisms he exudes to be Gus, he wore me out.
Yeah, yeah. Archie played for the Saints...decades ago. Manning retired with a pitiful 35-101-3 record as a starter while posting a 67.1 quarterback rating and being named to two Pro Bowls. Manning obviously never won a Super Bowl. The Saints weren't even average while he played for them. NONE of his kids (or g-kids) have played ball in Louisiana outside of high school. Honest question...why do the people of Louisiana give him the time of day? Why the admiration??? Completely unfounded IMHO. Obviously the family's love is for Mississippi or some other state...definitely not Louisiana. So, should say...Archie Manning I Mississippi Legends.
Tell me you're not from Louisiana without telling me you're not from Louisiana
And people complain about DREW lol I tell them watch the Mora and Manning offenses
It's a shame that none of Archie's kids or grand kids share his love of Louisiana. They've all gone on to other places with their talents.
