Honestly, she was naive and impressionable. She had self-image issues, and she was insecure. Bill, a grown man who lived half-century, took advantage of her and knew she was vulnerable.

She was gorgeous and grown and literally pursued him (even she said he tried to call it off and she would cry and call he and his secretary relentlessly). Let’s not act like it was all on him.
I think the responsibility was on him because he was the one who was married but she knew he was married and she did pursue him anyway. She had already had at least one relationship with another married man. It was both of them…..,just in different ways.
Like many men do. These grown men know what they’re doing when they go after women aged 18-24. Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s right or honorable. It’s predatory.
@@miss2unpredictable okay, and? When I was 15, I was the exact same way with a 28 year old man who I swore I was in love with. He took advantage of my precociousness and naivety. Just because the younger party claims to be interested, doesn’t make it okay. As the adult with more life experience, it was his responsibility to turn her down. He was the leader of the free world, for God’s sake.
I've never watched this interview before - Looking back, Monica deserved more respect than she received from the world, she was honest and took responsibility of her action. She made a mistake but she owned it. Respect, respect.

This interviewer is a million times better than Mrs. Walters, who was rude af when she interviewed Monica.

Watching this after watching the Impeachment series. Jon Snow is a gentleman. He asked the questions that the viewers would be curious about but was very mindful of protecting Monica’s dignity. Excellent interview!
I can't imagine having my whole life defined by a stupid mistake when I was 21 or 22. She's incredibly strong to have come through all of this. No one should be defined by a mistake, especially when so young, no matter how bad others may believe it to be.

True, but I have a hard time thinking it was a mistake due to the circumstances. A 22 year old I feel would have the common sense that having an affair with the president would be quite dangerous- especially as it was their internship. However, I do understand that what Clinton did was disgusting and definitely took advantage of someone vulnerable.

Fair, but she really rubs me the wrong way in these old interviews. She comes across so shameless and remorseless, giddy even. It’s weird and distasteful to me how to this day she frequently jokes about this scandal for social media attention when this was an extremely difficult time for Bill’s family and at the time she showed very little concern for their feelings.
That's life. If you want to blow the married PRESIDENT, there is a price to pay.
But…she is honest. We can’t say that about Ex President Clinton now can we?

I relate to being sheltered and a bit naive......she speaks very well and very intelligently; I was quite impressed; the girl that plays her in the movie Impeachment, doesn't come close; she has bad teeth and Monica;s are gorgeous. ! Monica is a lot classier than the other girl; I was disappointed in the star that represented Monica

After her assassination in press, after those horrible days and depression she gave a very honest, intelligent interview with a smile on her face. I’m impressed. She’s bright, smart, lovely girl. I can’t believe that everyone was bullied her. Feel so bag for this young and naive girl :( hope she’s happy now
Since she didn't raise her own family , I don't think she's that happy ( and looks like she really wanted to). She should've come to Russia , I'm sure the line would've been pretty long and nobody would've cared about her "bad" reputation.

I have much respect for this interviewer Jon Snow, He was very respectful to her and reserved judgement and was able to get personal details that inform people what someone in Lewinsky's position was thinking.

She was forthcoming, honest, articulate & tried to clarify her perspective & BOTH of their actions. She was also incredibly young. If we were all judged by our actions of our early 20’s, we would have a different perspective.
One of the things about Monica, that nobody can deny, is that she is very honest and genuine on her feelings towards that man we had as president.
And she blew the president and at least 5 other married men.

I have way more respect for Monica than I do for Bill Clinton.
I don’t typically approve of women who go after married men, however I can’t judge her. She was so young and it was his responsibility as a much older man and as her ‘employer’ to shut the attraction down.

People making fun of her weight and yet she stood strong through everything including having an affair with the most powerful man in the world at the time. There's plenty of harassment and abuse that makes the issue more complicated. Women end up slutshamed if the relationship is or isnt consensual.

The one thing I adore about her is the fact that if Bill treated me or many others the way he treated Monica, many people including myself would have made many lies about the relationship. Even if she said they had sexual intercouse, everyone would have believed her. If she said Bill manipulated her and told her he is in love with her, everyone would have believed her. Instead she honestly said that she told Bill she is in love and yet he did not and they had no sexual intercourse. Good on her for being that honest in that situation.
Yes he was the older married man but she was deluded if she thought for one minute he was thinking of a future with her. Neither of them had any morals

I am just commending her that even when Bill and his circles defamed her with lies after lies that was so slanderous, she still stayed true and honest and that's something I don't think many people including myself would do. Additionally, he was president, Old and married and she was just 21, so he should have been responsible too and promptly transferred her from West Wing after all she was just an intern, not his vice president.
Women are often disbelieved when it comes to rape and harassment. Her relationship with him was not predatory, but Bill's relationships with other women were. Look at his affiliation with Jeffrey Epstein.
Weird to admit that you would shamelessly make up lies about someone just to be vindictive. That's not normal.
Relative to other interviewers at the time, Jon Snow was a lot more respectful. I love Jon.

mind you this is coming from the perspective of someone born after the scandal, so i’m not extremely informed on all of the details; however, she really was so young. i mean, come on! who hasn’t made mistakes? of course, the scope of hers was much bigger and you can say she should’ve thought more about it (which i can’t exactly disagree with), but i hate seeing how poorly the media treated such a young woman.

He cared more about his reputation than his connection with this woman. His ego was his downfall. I hope she found a man that cherishes her and loves her deeply she deserves that.
Well, HE seems to be doing just fine 😏. Funny you mention the word “cherish” because, according to the “Slow Burn” season 2 podcast, he did use that word with her, even though he studiously avoided the “L” word.
And she screwed both of them by running her mouth about the affair to numerous people in her life like a total idiot. All she had to do was keep her mouth shut and this never would've been made public. I understand why she was drawn to him but most 22 year olds are at least socially aware and responsible enough to know that a secret like that has the potential to ruin countless lives, including your own. Her carelessness and thoughtlessness will always be baffling to me.

Then Barbara acts as if, that's not possible because his the President. Am South African, a full figured woman is and has always been beautiful. That's the advantage of not living in a Western world. It makes no sense how they could have called her ugly to me, her beauty is from within. You see that in all her interviews. A polar opposite of Hillary, not that we playing comparison. If this happened today, a 23 year old taken advantage of by the most powerful man in the world, would not be vilified and treated the way she was in the 90s. I think everyone forgets just how young she was and the extreme imbalance of power between them.
It did not matter. She was a grown adult and she was a willing participant in the affair along with Clinton. They both were involved. She was well aware she was in a relationship with a married man and how that would potentially affect Mrs Clinton and Chelsea.
I don't think she should have been treated this way, but she was not a victim.
And furhermore she didn't give a shit about Mrs Clinton or Chelsea at the time she was in the affair.
At 18 one is an adult. I had a full-time job at aged 17 and brought in the sole income in our household. This woman was 23. She was not "taken advantage of" she knew exactly what she was doing and then when the chickens came home to roost she wanted to claim she was a victim. You are right though, today she would not be held accountable for her actions, she would claim she has some "-ism". You reap what you sow. Simple.

Regardless of her age, where there is such an extreme imbalance of power she was always going to be taken advantage of to an extent. This is not extreme feminism or anything of the sort…. I was still houseman.he drove back to my apartment once and suggested that he can help me advance In my career.It was harrasment.i told him off.Found out he did the same thing in previous hospital but they just transferred him.i complained to the HR together with two other women . He was suspended , transferred and demoted.i was 24 then.This was way before Metoo.If you don't compromise your integrity and strong moral compass you won't be in this situation regardless of age.
@@Carousel5883 good for you and the other women who reported him-he deserved it. Still, I think Monica’s situation with Clinton was a little different. They felt a genuine mutual attraction, and Clinton did not specifically threaten punishment for resisting or promise a reward for reciprocating, nor did she seem to want anything from him but the immediate pleasure. It was still wildly inappropriate and reckless, though.

Because it took her right back to that moment. Everyone forgets that her feelings were very real. It takes years for one to be able to look back at one's actions from the perspective of an observer rather than being right back in the heat of the moment. She has since been treated for PTSD from the media spectacle, but I doubt she was able to separate the media circus from the cause of it.
Yes, she is still so young here and I do think she only regrets (at the time of the interview) being caught. She's almost too giddy and gleeful to genuinely be sorry. I assume if Linda Tripp had kept her mouth shut that Monica would have run back if Billy waggled his finger at her. It really was an emotional affair and he encouraged her to fall for him.

Poor Monica. I was only 17yrs old, and CNN was the thing back then, and this story was on replay over and over and over. I was watching from Nigeria as a 17yr old and wondering, what's the big deal, he is the President, she likes him, what the heck!
The relationship between Monica and Bill Clinton was a private matter between him and Hillary. The way all this was dragged into the public arena shames America. Making public details of intimate relationships is disgusting. This matter is over why keep bringing it up.

Was Clinton ever interviewed like this?
The main that bothers me is that Monica calls this a “relationship”, but, really, this was a jump off. Never took her even to a hotel, out to dinner, no REAL gift…. I’m sure Clinton showed more time and attention to his other lovers. It’s like he got off in between meetings without missing a beat. He seemed to reach out to her when he was bored. He did take advantage of her naïveté.

I can't imagine being 23 and going through this. She's very intelligent and beautiful. I honestly was not surprised that the President was attracted to this energy. I believe she is doing well now and this interview cleared some of their false beliefs about this woman. We are only humans and we all make mistake but just everybody's comment, she's incredibly honest and she gained a lot of respect for this.

@@ManuelCruz-tn4do I agree too - she played a part in the situation. However, his influence most definitely gave him the upper hand to tantalize her and just keep her at arm’s reach. I am sure she was quite mesmerized by the fact that he gave her even the slightest time of day - knowing how important he was. He most definitely used his professional presence to “get her”. And I’m sure he knew it was easy… bc most commonly…(not aiming to offend anyone..but..) someone/something so flashy can easily capture the attention of a young…& inexperienced individual. And with his age and experience - he SO knew that.

I have commented before, but on a positive note, I am glad she shared this. She is correct in saying healing the past helps you move forward. I respect her bravery for bringing her story to light with her documentary this year. I feel her pain of the trauma she endured. She was young and school girl behavior can be forgiven if not condoned. We all have experienced pain from our past for which we are ashamed. Her message invites us to be self forgiving and heal to take a positive step forward.
Having a history of connection with public figures, my mixed emotions are largely due to dealing with the nonsense of groupies, and bullies and advantage takers who think that behavior is ok due to celebrity status. It drains you and wears on you like salt to a wound.
People's private life should be respectful no matter who you are or how you are connected in this world. She got a taste of the dark side of celebrity, not the fairy tale lies of being the other woman, or a groupie.
It's all so very relatable thinking about myself as a 21 / 22 year old. I think it's pretty relatable to most people if we were honest about ourselves. Imagine being in your early 20's & getting manipulated by the president & a much older dominant woman. The girl had no chance

It's all very well her saying before she met him he was too old for her. However she had already had a couple of much older guys. She was into older guys. The power was obviously a bonus.
She should be a politician. Looking at the comments she has managed to convince so many how decent she is. jon snow deserves enormous credit for the sympathethic manner by which he gently ran through this very painful highly intimate narrative. monica lewinsky is an extraordinary young woman. insightful highly articulate and truthful the interveiw is spellbinding by any yardstick. the world was voyeristic and wanted to know as much as possible but this very young woman stood up to the ensuing maelstrom with extraordinary resilience really quite remarkable for someone so young. any fair minded observer would have to acknowledge her courage. she emerges from this love story with more credit than most if not all other players.
I wish she could see that disclosing her private life to LT wasn’t the biggest mistake of her life. Her mistake was acting on her Impulse to carry on with the President. Had she not done that, there would’ve been nothing to disclose.
It’s refreshing to watch her ramble and think through her emotions of this situation. A lot of her have been young, romanticized someone, fantasized about someone, had s*x with someone, and been overwhelmed with emotions and thoughts. Sometimes we may never tell anyone and it will drive you crazy. She’s being honest about an affair. Bravo to her. Doesn’t mean it’s right, but it happens.

She doesn’t understand that you don’t talk about your intimacy with anyone, even if you are in a real relationship, which that one was not. I’m sure divorce never crossed his mind. I think the fact that she likes to talk publicly about her most private moments, that was probably what caused more damage to her when it comes to a committed relationship, who wants to have a girlfriend/wife that publishes what they do in bed. Nobody, being a woman a wouldn’t like my husband telling his friends.
Back then Monica was a giddy, cynical young woman. She may not intended to gain the notoriety, but still, she was perfectly aware of her wrong doings. Now, she is more mature, and she claims #metoo, but I do not consider her a naive, young woman who fall innocently.

The time for her turning her life around has passed. Back when the incident happened, I have to agree that the press may have did a "number" on her, but now she's doing it to herself. No matter what she accomplishes in the future will always be compared to her and Clinton. And that's sad.

I’m over it. She was not forced or harassed. She admittedly pursed him. Not her first married man relationship. She multiple times admitted he tried to break it off... he stopped her from going all the way sexually etc etc. I do feel bad her mistakes she made in her 20s were put all over the world. But she was not underage nor an innocent. He was responsible for the affair etc- but she was more than complicit. There are real victims of sexual harassment out here. Secretaries marry bosses all the time. The power dynamic is only a factor sometimes. It’s not harassment if you wanted it. I appreciate her honesty but that’s about it
