Just in case anyone was wondering about the plastic beach junk on remote beaches on Skye, there’s actually a fab organisation ‘Skye Beach Cleans’ who do great work gathering volunteers to go out and mass beach clean. Last year over 2 weekends they cleared 10 tonnes of junk off Skye beaches. There are similar grassroots groups in Caithness, Fife, East Lothian… I’m in the Eastern part of the Northern Highlands and regularly beach clean on my walks - I can say that the biggest component of what I see and remove is fishing related - nets, lobster creels, fish crates, floats, rubber gloves, etc. after that it’s food and cleaning packaging, then farming related waste.
And this Ladies and Gentlemen is why we call him, "The Legend that is Haze Outdoors". Absoultly hilarious banter at the worst of times, asking are we OK, sat at home. Quality mate, quality.
@@HazeOutdoors... And I was also laughing during the wet-tent erection scene, sitting in my shorts during blazing hot 29C sunshine 🌞, sipping a cold beer 🍺 just to wet my dry throat. 😂
Paul - 30 years in the Army (Medic!!!!) and many solo long distance hikes behind me (and more to come I hope) I just want to say how enjoyable this video was - one of your best ever. The tent-pitching segment made me laugh like a drain (thanks for that mucker, you showed how important morale is in times of hardship ). For your next circular walk try Arran - a wonderful varied Scottish trip. Love to you and Fern.
You where my inspiration 4 years ago while suffering with me noggin, I’m still here a still wild camping! It truly does help! So THANKYOU Paul! You and your videos do save people! Love ya lad XXX
This is the 3rd time I’ve watched this episode, and you still have me laughing., have had a busy day working in the hospital, and thought I’d watch this again to cheer me up. Your sense of humour in times of adversity is great. Love your videos. Keep them coming. Thank you!
Happy father's day to all. To you hazy I named my cat after you. We already had one but my girlfriend wanted another and asked me for a name, at the time I was watching one of your videos and I said "her name is hazey"
All after 50:38 on map time was my mapping area in the summer of 1995 when doing a geology degree. Spent most of a month in that area: Ben Meabost, the coast along to Elgol, Cammasunary & the Bad Step. I recognised the pines where you camped and that little reservoir in the back ground. I got caught in a thunder storm hiking east from the beach platforms, up on over the saddle and down along the track (built by the RAF Regiment in believe). I remember being terrified I’d get struck by lightning because of the metal on my climbing boots, my hammer and my watch! Thanks for reminding me of a brilliant adventure so long ago. Great video.
Me too! I think I spent a month there in 94 measuring the dip and strike of any rock outcrop I could find. I remember going to a great ceilidh in Torrin and drinking far too much McEwans Export
"Is thee not entertained?" Yes I am, very much...from the comfort of my armchair. But it does still encourage me out to do day trips whatever the weather.
Done the "Bad Step" a few times, and that cliff walk in the dark (headtorch) with horizontal wind and rain, back in late 80's - pretty dangerous path needing good concentration. Nice to be travelling with you through the videos, ATB.
That tent pitching in the rain was awesome. Had me crying and i know how you felt just bending over to get it all set up after 25+ miles. Well done and thanks for the laughs.
Thank you for this video. I have done extensive walking in the Uk (boast: climbed all the Munros in Scotland) but I have a phobia of being struck by lightning. In 1989 when walking the Pennine way, I was going across Withins heights during which I experienced a dry thunderstorm (my only experience of such), it was a clear mist but bolts of lightning hitting the ground all around me. Nowhere to take shelter, just kept waling, 'God protect me.'
Portree! The family and I stayed at the Shorelands homestay back in 2022, and I fell in love in the town for the few days we were there. Took a boat out on the bay and saw the seals and birds, what a beautiful part of the world! Shame that our time at the Old Man was pure fog. Ate monkfish for the first (and still only) time at The Lower Deck, wish we could get that stuff in the US. I have the exact same Opinel Colorama (No. 7) that I got from the outdoor shop in town as well. And at 47:41, that's just steps beyond the gas station I remember being shocked at how much cheaper stuff was in Scotland than the US, maybe 10 paces past the driveway to get to the homestay! Just two years too late, aye?
Great video man. You were just featured in Maximus Ironthumper's video pitched up next to that wall 😆 It would have been so awesome if you two had met. You're both honestly my two favourite youtubers ❤
My best weather indicator. Have a look at the terrain round about you. If you don't see a flat bit big enough to put a tent up, it will pi55 it down within the next five minutes. Never fails..
"I'm gonna get thundered", omg, sat here and laughed so hard. I've seen many of your videos where you say: under these circumstances, with these weather conditions, at this time of year.... and you are teaching us to use our better sense, to make safer choices, to not take foolish risks. I appreciate that, thank you. Great video, as always. Much Love
Mate that was EPIC! HAving been in that sort of rain camping I can't describe the feels of getting the shelter up, getting dry, getting warm dry kit on and then a good feed. Then just hoping, (hoping!) that the elements don't completely munt your tent/hammock/fly!! And hopefully waking to a world of sun, still and fresh wonder. Thanks for the brutal share. Love it!
Haha, dude you're awesome! Just got back from my first 5 day and feel so relaxed and content after. It cracked me up watching your vid with how relatable it was. I dig the slight, or sometimes large overcoming of adversity, pushing yourself, learning what you can do without. I love the sort of simple rhythm of hiking. You walk, find camp, pitch, clean, cook, chill, sleep, repeat, with all the in betweens. Doing it with your partner is a whole other experience again. Love the lanshan 2 as well. Its just such and good little tent that packs so small for the price.
Tremendous❣️❣️❣️ And yes I was quite comfortable in my bed drinking a breakfast IPA watching you set up camp in the storm😁 Nut’n but Grateful for your Wonderful sharing….♥️
Mr Hazy.....wow, 20 + mile only to end the day in heavy rain....😢 You put yet another good day in there. I think it might be enough to make fair weather hikers think twice. As you say, you never know what the weather can do. Another, super Video....looking forward to the next....then on a wet cold Summers day....Will watch them back to back... Thanks again....Time, effort, and being out there..... Fab as always.
This section was a favourite of mine when I did it with friends. We got two skinny dips in on the route from Sligachan to Camasunary. Proper beauty, we met some geordies at the Bothy where we stayed the night before heading around Elgol. which we didn't think was dangerous at the time, but that was almost 8 years ago now. Proper fantastic Trail. I'm jealous you're living it out Haze

The bad step from coruisk to Elgol really is not too bad in good weather, but you're sensible to avoid it with bad weather. The camasunary track is a lovely alternative.
Haha when I saw that waterfall I though, Hazey would probably shower under that. I also didn't do the bad step even though the weather was perfect just thought it might take too long as I only had 5 days. As for the trail to Elgol I didn't find it that bad to be honest, it was quite fun and I saw a black adder on it too. In fact the trail along the loch to Kinloch Hourn on the Cape wrath trail was worse and I nearly fell into the sea on it. Great video and the tent pitching was hilarious.
That really made me laugh! “You enjoying it? On your nice warm sofa?!” I was lying down on my nice warm sofa feeling really miserable so that caught me off guard! 😂😂😂

He laughed, said yeah, and that he misses it,a bit. Then thanked me, as he hadn't been recognised in a while. I don't know why, but it felt surreal. Proper made my day. As you always do!
