Today, I'm having another GAS with Andrew Scheps One of the most respected and well-reputed mix engineers in the music industry *Watch our previous chat here: **ua-cam.com/video/_Kw-eVmGgSw/v-deo.html*
One of the very first people I would consider to be a real self-producer would be Les Paul, because in the late 1950's and early 1960's and his ability to write songs, recording & mixing albums, invent studio equipment, design reverb chambers, engineer & design his own recording studio and create the Les Paul solid body guitar. Les Paul was a music industry pioneer and a technology genius!
The interviewer is also great which makes it very enjoyable. Sometimes people have a huge guest but do very bad at interviewing. That's not the case here, great questions, great listening skills.. ;)
It Sound Really 1980's: Phil Collins Gated Drums, Yamaha DX7 FM & Roland Jupiter 8 analog Synthesizer sounds, Sequenced Keyboard Tracks and the use of Drum Machines.
Thank you Andrew for introducing me to the very concept of Reid Stefan. I just watched his first video from five years ago to get the purest version of his presentation, and could not stop laughing every time he turned to the camera. But also, you know, great info. Hope the trees are doing well!
I use an RTA program purely to make sure I'm hearing my room fairly accurately. I've never corrected the system any more than the few switches on the back of the monitors.

"I'm not so young anymore, I'm 29!", is hysterical.

And big, cold-sounding (not in a bad way) Lexicon reverbs.
