Warning to anyone with sensitive skin: This is a very intense routine so be careful if you want to copy it. Glycolic Acid and pure Vitamin C can both irritate sensitive skin, so make sure to take the time to really patch test these ingredients before using them on your whole face and together.
I don't particularly have sensitive skin, but I use only one active at a time to not irritate my skin. People exfoliate a little too much these days. For me it's mandelic acid at night twice a week and the day after I don't use my glycolic acid toner, only my vitamin c moisturizer and sunscreen. I'm terrified of irritation especially because I like in a hot, humid, sunny place (all year around). If the skin burns it's extra bad.
I think Susan has commented saying she doesnt intend to make an spf. I know it takes a long time to formulate and get tested, and I believe it’s a costly process. I’m sure she would make a wonderful hybrid sunscreen though!
@@Harperangel59 yes, you are right. She did say this. I watched an instagram live she did a long time ago and she mentioned this. Although she also said she wouldn't make a cleansing balm either for those very reasons, but still ended up making one.
@@SusanYara I learned so much in 3 months watching you! Thank you for all you do and for helping us all improve our skin care journey! Just reorder the Vitamin C super serum because it’s incredible ❤️
All these acids are so confusing but you do an amazing job explaining each one. Not sure if you've done a recent video of just acids and their benefits for each skin. Type, if not that would be amazing.
Nothing's confusing about acids.Simple AHA(glycolic acid)good to exfoliate surface dead skin, reveals newer brither skin, stimulates collagen BHA (salicilyc acid)good for oily, acne skin .exfoliates within pores, unclogeds, removes dead skin, reduces inflammation.Very, very simple
I've heard that peptides can interfere with the absorption of L-ascorbic acid. I also noted the moisturizer you used has a Ph of 4.8-5.8, won't this lower the efficacy of the vitamin C since it works best at a Ph of 3.5, just wondering your thoughts? Thanks, I love your channel!
People who are looking for a good glycolic should try Cosrx AHA 7 Power Liquid. It’s a gentle 7% glycolic at the right pH of 3.8 that I personally use every night (not everyone can use it daily) and it’s very affordable.
I just finished that and have started their 8% AHA gel! It stung a tiny bit, but I am enjoying it so far. I wish the 5% had a gel version too, as I prefer gel, then I'd happily keep using the 5%!
I like glycolic acid, but I do have sensitive skin (rosacea and eczema). My skin won't tolerate higher doses, but my one true glycolic acid love is the Instytutum Glow toner. 6% glycolic acid with niacinamide and other soothing and hydrating ingredients. It's the only exfoliator I've tried which makes an over night difference in my skin with little to no irritation. Love it so much.
I love glycolic acid a couple times a week and I don't cleanse my skin those mornings. The rest of the time I use a hydrating toner or cleanser and my skin is really improving.
I just got the Alpha H in my Allure beauty box and this is perfect timing. Love your videos. I am all about self care both internally via meditation and mindful living and externally via beauty care and wellness to experience life to the fullest.- Charu
I have oily, congested skin. I get black heads and white heads- glycolic acid is the only thing that keeps my skin clear. Neostrata has incredible products.
I personally don’t think PHAs replace AHAs. If you have sensitive skin, I would rather someone try mandelic acid. PHAs are super gentle and I love them in a lot of my hydrating products or in combination with other exfoliants, but don’t consider them to be true exfoliants.
I know I’m not her but maybe this will help, I started using a cleanser with ahas in them about once a week. I’ve used phas before and l like them, I think if you use them everyday then they might act like ahas but I felt pretty sensitive using them everyday too. I’ll look the the cleanser I use and leave it in your replies in case you want to try it
i just started using RETINOL 2.5 strength that i bought from my dermatologist. Can i add a glycolic acid to my skincare routine. And when would i use it? and how often? LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!!!
Your advice and way of explaining is really great. I care about my skin as much as my life. Because the structure of my skin is different and does not accept every product. Or rather, it doesn't work. However, I would like to point out one thing that I bought a cream called RWLMAX cream 3 months ago. It really cleared up the dry layer on my skin and the acne I was uncomfortable with in a really quick time. I really couldn't believe it. I really recommend you to try it. Because it works!
Not necessarily! Lactic acid is great because it’s still really strong, but just slightly more gentle than glycolic. It also helps increase hydration and ceramide production in the skin, so if you want exfoliation, hydration, and glow, then lactic acid is it. The benefit of glycolic acid is that it penetrates deeper and at the right percent/pH, it can stimulate fibroblasts that can produce collagen. They also work well together in formulas!
That SPF looks absolutely amazing. I tend to get really oily around my T zone and I think I'd be shining like a disco ball if I had this on. Anyone knows of a good alternative?
Love Glycolic acid have used it forever & follow with my Vitamin C then my Bifida Serum, Peptide & Ceramide moisturizer & always SUNSCREEN the A#1 most important anti-aging benefit. As always thanks for the great tips & recommendations. Annemarie
Omg. Thankyou. I am so confused what I could pair with my The Ordinary Glycolic Acid. I have a Vitamin C that I separately put on my face because it might react to GA. I can now be confident to put them together. Thankyou!
@@SusanYara I have a 7% GA and 18% Vit. C. Both are strong ones. So, I hope they go well together. I don't get irritated putting them on separately though. So, hopefully they work! And thank you again :)
Can you please review/compare the Alpha H tonic 5% at a lower PH VS. their other product at 15% and a higher PH? I love the brand. I’m not finding too much information on them out there.
I think every skin tone can use glycolic acid. You might have heard that skin of color can easily get hyperpigmentation, so you just have to ease into strong actives like glycolic acid to make sure you’re not causing unnecessary stress on the skin that leads to dark spots. It’s easy to do with glycolic acid since it’s the strongest of the AHAs and has the smallest molecule to penetrate deeper. That doesn’t mean you have to avoid it though. Just pay attention and don’t push it.
I'm a little confused on the Sephora website it said to not use any other products after the Liquid Gold Exfoliating Tonic so can you still moisturize and sunscreen
I have always used vitamin C with my exfoliants and been fine. Most people just don’t want you to overdo it with your skin so they suggest minimizing active ingredients in the same routine.
Can you use glycolic acid for darker skin of colour like Indian skin? Some skincare experts advise against use of glycolic acid for darker skins due to possible burning because the molecules are so small.
Hi Susan, I love your products as I have quite a few and was also looking into adding the Skin1004 Product you mentioned but I read on a review somewhere that it’s not actually 100% Centella. That someone had it tested in a lab and said it really contains Centella Asiatica Extract, Alcohol, Lysolecithin, Sclerotium Gum, Xanthan Gum, Pullulan, Allantoin, Fucoxanthin. I’m wondering if that’s true.
Looks like my morning skincare routine! I learned all from you lol! One question though, are you not using your hydroquinone in the morning as well? Or you not supposed to mix it?
Hi Susan! Thank you for the info, I appreciate your videos and love your channel so much. They are truly informative. I have a question about the Niacinamide in the sunscreen that you mentioned. I read that it is not ok to mix vitamin C with Niacinamide. Could you please explain about Vitamin C and how to use it properly, in your future videos 😊. Thank you 🙏
Would glycolic acid be helpful in addressing flakiness associated with dehydrated skin? I’m oily, but because of my damaged skin barrier, my flakiness shows up when I put on makeup. I use as many barrier repair products and ingredients. But even with manual/chemical exfoliation once or twice a week, I still struggle with flaky texture.
The SPF cream Susan used had Niacinamide in it so would that interfere with the vitamin C she used? I’ve read that you can’t mix Vitamin C with niacinamide because weaken their effectiveness when combined. That’s why so much layers can be intimidating, especially with creams that carry a multitude of ingredients in one because you have to look at each one to make sure they don’t interfere with the other serums youre layering them with.
Despite so many products that you promote and share and use and all the experience blah blah even having your own skincare line, that melasma on your face doesnt seem to budge. Makes me wonder about all the products… 😶
In the beginning of this video she said "glycolic acid is the king of the AHAs," and somehow I heard "glycolic acid is the KINK..." Not gonna lie, exfoliation is my kink.
They actually can be used together, the science behind that myth was conducted in a very unrealistic environment. The only case where maybe you shouldn't is if the manufacturer specifically says not to. :)
Ha! Not saying you’re going to replace lost collagen, but that these ingredients have been associated with collagen production, so use them together for better chances.
@@SusanYara I get what you mean however I don’t play into the collagen marketing ….. the evidence just isn’t there . I say just use ingredients that you see a change , don’t waste money especially in the world we live in now
This is clear that you are misinforming your viewers due to sponsorships. Glycolic acid is not good for everyone especially those with sensitive or darker skin due to how small the molecule is of the acid.
That’s not true. Glycolic acid is great for all skin tones. If you have melanin-rich skin, you should ease into using all strong actives, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use them.
