With regards to the whole "L vs Light" thing, I chose L because he had to stay within the law and had no assistance from supernatural objects and/or shinigami
L is the cutest and the smartest.

This list is completely out of order, plus why didn't you add Light Yagami and Makoto Naegi from Danganronpa? Makoto managed to stop a killing game that majorly affected the entire world. Shikamaru isn't even worthy enough to be in the top 20 list so far because he hasn't proven ANYTHING except in his own little game, using ninjutsu, so please look over this list and try again.

Both have outsmarted the other in different occasions. They both had their advantages and disadvantages. So, it is kinda wrong to compare them, but they should have been tied at worst, imo.

Anyone else think that Light is smarter than L? He manipulated a GOD OF DEATH TO KILL HERSELF. Also, L had a whole task force doing most of the investigative work while he just kind of watched. Light had to work alone 90% of the time and he literally worked with the task force to CATCH HIMSELF FOR 6 YEARS! I’m sorry but the feats of light are just superior to me than L. Don’t get me wrong, I love L and he’s a fantastic character, but Light >

L only has a small team, a lot of money and high authority(although there is a high chance most of the things what L did was not even legal) and unlike light, L didn't suddenly have those things in a snap of a finger he actually had to work for it meanwhile light got 2 deathnotes, 2 easily manipulatable death God's, misa who has the shinigami eyes, found Naomi misora first by luck, popular at school and his dad is the chief of the Kira investigation and what did light do to earn these things? nothing
BooperDooper Light was at an advantage yet that didn’t stop L from finding out the death note. The only reason why Light outsmarted L was because he had supernatural elements helping him.

Actually, when you look at the things at top, L and Light's intellegences are most likely equal. I agree that Light has Supernatural powers on his hands, but if he hadn't been smart as L, he could not handle that kinds of strategies to even manipulate multiple Shinigamies.

Friend might be one of the few characters in manga/anime that accomplished their goal of destroying life on Earth. Sure he lost the final Battle, but he still ended up as a god as well as having everyone live in poverty in a rundown Japan. Monster is still a bit better as a Whole, but still

I think you should have taken some other character from Naruto serie: like Madara or Itachi
Naruto has other geniuses not just Shikamaru there is Black Zetsu, Madara, Orochimaru, Itachi, Minato, Kakashi, Sasuke as well.
