- I love the original Willy Wonka movie. It's about to get a prequel for reasons I can't explain. I thought it was time to go back and revisit it. Joining me for this journey is Josie from Fishtank! Before this episode she had never seen the film but in a way she lived it! Watch and see what we thought!

I never seen Tony simp so blatantly before, he must really be in love lol
I don’t blame him whoop whoop!
I respect that he likes specific looking people especially when he’s clearly tapped the solid gold that is Trisha
How was he simping?
She doesn't like movies. The algorithm is drunk. But then, so are we all. 🍻
Using his internet fame to lure girls
Why would people hate on a race car bed? It is, after all, the best way to fall fast asleep.
Underrated
The tunnel scene scared the heck out of me as a kid.
All that weird imagery projected on the walls and Willy Wonka singing at a feverish pitch at the end.
The last handful of lines in the song sound likes he's describing ferrying souls across the river Styx or something.
The scariest scene for me was the soda/fan. I couldn't burp on command when I was little and I thought if that ever happened to me I'd be so dead.
Me too!!
That was scarier than alot of horror movies that come out these days. 😂
Funny thing about that tunnel scene is that the actors' worried and horrified faces were genuine when Wilder was singing. They had no idea he was going to do that. :)
Josie is the coolest and cutest
Cheer up charlie is a great song. It calmed me during my lowest point in life
If Josie liked animated movies, Tony should've shown her the Tom and Jerry version. It's the Gene Wilder version with the cat and mouse thrown in. And Tugs recited the "is it raining" poem.
Nostalgia Critic did a review of it a while back! It's so bad but it's so funny to watch!!
fr , but no, he brought her in on a movie way before her time and she probably chuckled at lol
Lol I was thinking the same! 🐱🐭
i think she just likes anime lol
@@the-chameleon No worries Tom and Jerry are also in anime shorts
Not only does Grandpa Joe gaslight Charlie, he also sings a song about how *_HE'S_* got a golden ticket. Plus, was he just faking being bedridden all those years? Then he encourages Charlie to drink the Fizzy Lifting Drink and nearly costs him the prize. What a jerk.
Dude. It was the 70’s
and to add insult to injury, Charlie and his mom slave away to provide for them then he bums three fiddy off Charlie for tobacco.
Real talk? I think if Joe was faking, they're all faking in that bed.
Charlie was Joe's Golden Ticket...
I love this movie!! It's a classic from my childhood!! Having a prequel about it is just weird. Gene Wilder is phenomenal!!
I agree. What will be next?
It’s a classic from my childhood also. I hate it. It’s a movie I had to watch over and over again(as much as the goonies, also hated, like now) it terrified me as a kid. For some reason I also associate it with chitty chitty bang bang, which also freaked me out. I also like Charlie and the chocolate factory more but I really like Tim Burton back then. I also realize this was a stupid rant and my bad for writing this pointless comment.
@@solidsnake3962 it's fine lol
Tony is simping hardcore
I'd Willy Tony's Wonka.
Women love Tony. To be fair he is very famous and important.
I wouldn't put the 2005 movie above this one but it's still pretty fun. Closer to the book in some ways, and I like that Johnny Depp didn't even try to imitate Gene Wilder but did his own thing with the character. It makes sense that a guy who's lived only with people who are mute except when they sing for years would be really socially awkward. And the kids other than Charlie are way worse (other than Veruca, maybe), so it's more delightful when they get their comeuppance.
Personally, I have mixed feelings about the Willy Wonka origin story. But with that said, the Johnny Depp version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory seems to capture the feeling of the book more than the Gene Wilder version, though both are great, just different flavors.
Honestly, it would be more interesting to see an adaptation of Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator.
I always think how the tunnel scene was in Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments.
@mindthegapmindthegap Me too, I actually have that whole special on my horror playlist.
This movie came out long before I was born & I consider 'Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory' one of my all-time favorite "childhood favorites".
I was born in early-1989 & 'Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory' came out in mid-1971, I believe...
'96 here, same experience. My parents had all sorts of old VHSs of 70s and 80s shit when I was a kid, high kino.
Man, that race car bed skit has to be a short lol. I need to send that to my friends lmao
That race car bed told me right off the bat she was wrong for this movie review
Race car beds are better than a scary clown bed
@@nightmarerazor5991she was charlie, there is no one better. Watch a fishtank recap, it was life changing media in my opinion. Her weirdness is her appeal
At the end Wonka says that everyone else will get their memories erased and be sent home.
i’m old enough to love the movie…but too old to have heard of whatever fish tank is
Mintsalad is too busy posting spicy pics, so Tony had to find a new Mintsalad.
What a delightful guest. No idea what Fishtank is, but she was fun
I dig this format honestly
kind of hilarious that Dinklage screwed over all the dwarf actors…somewhere Billy Barty is screaming
Yeah he really needs to be taken down a peg for that. He's not king of the dwarfs and they need work that he's gatekeeping.
@@Doddzer74 God took him down a peg when he was born. I guess Dinklage didn't learn his lesson. Let them m/dgets work.
Oompawl Loompawl doom-pa-dee-do. I've got a perfect puzzle for you. Oompawl Loompawl doom-pa-dee-dee. If you are wise you will listen to me.
What do you get when you live in Philly,

How do you think you'd pronounce the word "Jaws?"
Would fans make fun of all your flaws?
Bet your @#$!ing 4ss we would.
Oompawl Loompawl doom-pa-dee-da.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory wasn't huge it was actually a box office bomb upon release it made only 4 million on the 3 million dollar budget. The movie was largley paid for by the Quaker Oats Company to promote Wonka Chocolate Bar line which was also a massive failure, Quaker Oates had to pull the bars off shelves due to manufacturing issues with the chocolate where the chocolate bar melted on store shelves. Quaker Oats changed it to Willy Wonk from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to promote the Wonka Bars. The movie didn't actually find an audience until later when it aired on TV in mid 70's and the home video market in the 80's. Also would like to point out Roald Dahl edited Charlie and the Factory in 1973 after years of criticism to remove offinsive language and to change the Ommpa Loompa's to be white they where originally Africans in the original 1964 version of the book.
Interestingly, though, Roald Dahl originally wrote Charlie as black but his agent told him to make him white.
Tony you need to buy a race car bed and make a whole video about it. Really rub it in their face...that would be hilarious.
"Your bed is a car."
"Yeah but it's a fukcin sweet car."
What is Zune.... that one hurt.
i edited the boat scene to have the scenes from event horizon security footage instead
I'm not gonna lie, when I was a kid I was even dumber than I am now, believe it or not. Every time I watched this movie as a kid I always forgot that "Slugworth" was working for Willie Wonka and I thought he was a bad guy until the end of the movie every goddamn time I watched it.
It’s always disappointing when you go on a brewery tour and there’s no river of beer
"Take a drink; And you'll sink. To a state of pure inebriation. You'll be tanked; Like the whole Irish nation!"🎶
I ADORE this movie for absolutely EVERYTHING about it, just like 'Annie 1982'--both total lightning in a bottle--the look, music, storytelling, and sets work so well, the actors are so great in their roles, they have awesome chemistry, the songs are wonderful, the whole thing has so much heart and spirit, and do I even need to mention Gene Wilder as Wonka?! My favorite thing he did was pretending to limp out only to do the somersault:):)
To make the Oompa Loompas even more uncomfortable….in the original original book, they were actual short Africans from Africa. Dahl reluctantly changed them closer to the movie version after the NAACP came out about it.
How can anyone hate this woman? She must be protected at all costs lmao great episode
Bro how old is this girl?? 😂 never seen South Park? Tony has never looked so happy!
Yes. Most people have one grandparent. Only one.
We need a Great Glass Elevator movie
I will literally watch any video with Josie in it.
You're into girls who look like 10yo boys? Hmmmm
34:35 I remember in the early 2000s Leonard Stonewas on an episode of Wheel of Fortuneand repeated those same words.
This movie kind of has a Saw vibe where they get some horrific punishment based on their sins/lifestyle choices
Wouldn't saw have a Wonka vibe technically?
I'm going to paraphrase Patton Oswalt's analogy about movie prequels here -
"Do you like chocolate? Well here's a big bag of cocoa powder - when you add milk and sugar it'll be chocolate."
"I DON'T GIVE A S*** WHERE THE STUFF I LOVE COMES FROM, I LOVE THE STUFF I LOVE!"
Big get
I saw this in the 6th grade. My teacher brought it to class. I remember liking well enough.
Oh nah, chocolate river, that's Wonka's deal. We've just been having some plumbing problems.
If theyre going to do this why not adapt the glass elevator?
Yay! I love Will Wonk and Choc Fact! In all seriousness, this is a GREAT movie and definitely one of my favorites! The Burton version is whatever though.
Burton version sucks in my opinion.
@@kdusel1991I enjoyed it more than the original
No way you got josie from fishtank hahah
I sleep in a racing car do you?
I sleep in a big bed with my wife
@@tricdaddy316 oh
I sleep in a videostore set with Space Cat.
You really got her with the "zune" reference Tony.
I never imagined Tony would have a guest on that would make me miss Crystal.
Ha, hahaha, hahahahahahaha 😂
😂 Jesus christ, that's so mean, but yet it's so funny!
"She sleeps in a racing car....do you?"
Also everyone hates Grampa Joe. The guy leaches for 20 years and cant get out of bed but the second he can get into that factory he is jumping around and doing dances.
It took me a minute to remember what fishtank was but its funny she is included in this show.
Speaking of funny turns of fate its weird that that Hugh guy went from being like the biggest heartthrob in movies married to a gorgeous woman to losing it all for a street prostitute and now he is an Oompa Loompa.
Hugh Grant has still been in plenty of movies after the prostitute scandal. He was just in the Dungeons & Dragons movie that came out this year as the main bad guy. Dude's career is just fine.
Iconic movie. One of my top 10 of all time.
Lol didn't even realize u were into fishtank let alone had Josie on an episode till I watched your Livestream with cucumberfeet as soon as I heard you say that I looked up this episode and hear I am. Good on ya Tony from hack the movies, if you lost patrons from having her as a guest on your podcast then those aren't the kinda patrons u wanted anyways. Keep up the good work brother
This video ends with a discussion of Twin Peaks, a show where the only asian character is named "Josie".
Coincidence?
Probably.
Did she commandeer a child's bedroom for this?🤨
Which fishtank is Josie from and how is she doing outside of it for this interview?
I always thought it funny that by the time we get to the chocolate factory the movie is half over pretty much.
You know I originally slept on this episode, but this is a good one.
You've got to do a podcast review of The Dentist 1 and 2, those horror flicks are incredible
Tiny: “Tinker or tinkerer is an archaic term for an itinerant tinsmith who mends household utensils.”
The remake summed up willy wonkas origins in its intro but a full origin prequel movie who knows if you dont like it dont watch it is it the right time for a prequel movie tho
29:50 - Actually, at the very end, Wonka mentions that all of the kids will be fine.
BUT HE LIED THE WHOLE MOVIE!
@@HackTheMoviesit’s debateble
@@HackTheMovies At the end, unless he's totally lying to Charlie and about to take him on the magic elevator of death, I think it's obvious he's being truthful and sincere. I always interpreted the crazy, mercurial, indifferent, and somewhat sadistic candy maker as just an act to test and troll his guests.
I'm already not a fan of how their intentionally making him eccentric and odd. I feel those qualities were put on by Wonka deliberately in the original film to test the patience of the children as well as the adults to weed out the one good person in the lot that he could give his chocolate factory to.
The trailer for the prequel looked like it belonged more in the Potterverse than Wonka. Change a few names and it would easily pass for the magical candy shop the kids had product from on the train in the first movie.
Yet no talk about sound of freedom
Too woke for Tony.
Ive got nothing nice to say about this cohost... But the list of bad things deeper than a river of chocolate. Give her a fizzy pop and send her on her way.
Why is that?
RIP Mr. Wilder
"Being shrunken down is horrifying" or something similar
:: Peter Dinklage has entered the chat
I can't believe super famous important youruber, Tony from hack the movies, opened Karl's live Philadelphia WATP show!
Wonka at the end: “Congratulations Charlie you won…However I’ve finally remembered grandpa Joe, and that I fired him LONG before I sacked everyone else. He was a bad worker and I’d really prefer you don’t allow him on the factory grounds again after this.” Lol
Josie for the win!
Nothing is sacred anymore, I even hated the 2005 movie at age 12.
What about John carpenters the thing that was a great remake. Dredd 2012 another great remake.
Cheer up charlie is great. I sing it sometimes to cheer my girlfriend up lol
She doesn’t like movies? Then why is she a guest on a movie review podcast?
For a very specific reason. We get into it toward the end!
It's a treat. Just roll with it.
I don't know if I can make it to the end... She's so boring.
@@jamessmithjr6788 Eh relax.
#JosieGang rise up!!!
Josie is chill.
The story is British which explains why they are so crazy about chocolate. European chocolates and candies are generally much better than chocolate in the US.
8 year ago I meet the guy who Mike tv of Willie Wonka and the chocolate factory at the Atlanta city boardwalk con
Family guy used this scene when Charlie ran home Peter imitates the run home
You ever notice the grandparents bed has boobs as the head boards? or am i a child?
It’s from the guy who did Paddington so it will be good . Hopefully this leads to a sequel of the original which we do need lol.
Paddington is really good though. It's still weird that they're doing a prequel.
What!? Tony is based??? Tony is…
a few months ago I was being called woke. I don't know what I am anymore!
Lol your Tony from Hack the Movies bro! haha you a good dude man don’t let people tell ya different brother haha
Meh idgas ill watch the prequel. Excited for it.
This was the most Multiversal video ever.
Josie was a fun guest in this one.
chocolate below 99% proof is inedible
Why does Tony look like Ron Jeremy
You could totally replace the creepy guy with the cart at the start of the movie with Art the Clown from Terrifier.
The Frank Castle thing is weirding me out. Being a Punisher fan.
Hassle*
Oh…….SILLY ME!
I'm surprised neither one of you pointed out that the first chocolate Charlie opens, the one that the family bought him, it's not even the right bar that would have a ticket in it. They bought went cheap and bought Charlie some moon pie look shit
Wish they would make Charlie and the great glass elevator film
Futurama episode fry and the slurm factory
Guest was ok one of my fav movies.
Holy Schnikey's Batman! Is that Detective Comics 27?
Zack sighting behind josie
Being from UK I have no idea who this Josie is or what Fishtank is. TBH it looks awful. Anyway I love this movie & Dahl did write some creepy kids books. He also wrote some creepy stories for adults, which were in the tv show Tales of the Unexpected (kinda like The Twilight Zone)
The oompa loompa thing is even worse in the book which describes them as African pygmies
Thought this was from Covid times as they aren't in the studio together
Not every guest can make it to my place. I wish people were more accepting of this format because it could open the doors to bigger guests. Saddly, the audience still rejects it.
@@HackTheMovies Didn't have a prob with it bro just thought it was done in the pandemic but i guess you mentioning a shitty Willy Wonka prequel proves it isn't
The reason why Charlie’s other grandparents don’t talk is because there probably Germans actors that couldn’t speak English well.
Or they cut their parts
