Google Pixel XL Battery Replacement (How to change the battery for ~$16)

- Today I am going to show you how to replace the battery on the Google Pixel XL. I guess you can also use this guide to replace the screen as well. This is also almost exactly the same (repair wise) the the 5 inch Google Pixel, as well as the Pixel 2.
Required tools-
T5 Torx Bit
Thin Playing Card
Flat Razor Blade
Plastic Prying Objects
Some Glue (link below)
Heat

Planned obsolescence by Google (Apple and other brands). I miss the time phones had removable battery!
So you missed when phones weren't water resistant?

Thank you for this. I got bought an upgraded 3070 mAh battery for my pixel XL and I now get over 6 hours of screen on time with heavy use. I'm expecting it to increase because the instructions told me to maximize the battery by killing it to 0 and charging it to 100 3 to 5 times.

Although I was extremely careful, I broke my screen in the process :(
It is EXTREMELY hard not to break your screen in the process...
This is one reason why I'm not in a rush to be without a phone.
I would much rather wait until my phone can no longer charge before replacing the battery. That or pay an expert to do it for me.
For the battery there is a strip in the middle u can rib to get the battery out.
Do you absolutely need to reapply adhesive for the phone(when putting the screen back on, at the 3:04 time)
Yes. Unless you want the screen to fall off. If you leave the existing adhesive on there, it may not bond properly and may fall off still
Use a 3M tape called "300LSE" to make it stick like original, but still able to come apart again in the future.

broke my screen. I barely pull anything just slide a thin playing card .. and try turn it on. the touch screen stop working LOL
Make sure to buy a spare screen if you need to replace the old battery, you"ll certainly will destroy it when you try to remove it. Like I did.
What battery life is your phone giving after the battery replacement?
5 hours, as opposed to 3 hours. (Geekbench 4 test)

Since this video is on replacing the battery do you not think you should include how to remove the screen and not make us watch 10 videos for every step.
Seems using glue is not the best in case you ever wanna open it again. Glue won't soften with heat like the black adhesive. Which is similar to windshield adhesive rolls. Just my opinion.
can you use a hair dryer rather than a heat gun?
This is my last Pixel. The original battery wasn't working in the first year and when I tried to change myself the screen broke, so from now on only cheap and easy to change battery phones.

Bought one for around 80 dollars and the battery is around 58% when I checked using accubattery. The phone shuts down when I was in the single digit battery percentage.

Cracked the screen several times attempting this. Couldn't get the screen off. Eventually my knife went through something and the phone won't turn on now. I wouldn't recommend this.
Knife??? I highly recommend using as little metal as possible, also only the thinnest metal where needed.

I watched a couple of videos how to replace the battery and surprised how unprofessional some professionals. The fact they replaced battery doesn't mean they did it correctly.
First of all everyone said about how fragile the screen and how easy to break it, but at the same time no one used a suction cup tool.
And remember never ever put any metal stuff between painted metal and glass. Especially wood carving knives. In our country we call such people Edward hands-from-ass.
Last but not least that I can't understand why do they used double sided tape when it is clearly seen there should be a glue. Buy b7000 glue and do not reinvent the wheel.
