Good list my friend. I got to see John Williams perform with the London Symphony and it was wonderful. Two of my other favorites are Sharon Isbin and Eliot Fisk. Awesome techniques and have expanded the classical guitar repertoire. You should do a top flamenco guitarist as well.
Yes, Fisk and Isbin are also great players. By the way, seeing Paco de Lucia playing flamenco was a life changing experience. I never seen anything like it and I was blown away. Thank you Heath.
Two of these were disciples of Segovia, although Williams strayed from the Segovia paradigm. The other two came from another school of technique and pedagogy. It is interesting to note that if these folks lived 70 years into the future, would this ranking holding up??? No social media back then so all the talent that the world was deprived of. just saying
That is a very good point. For every musician that becomes famous, there are others that never reach that level of recognition. This could be for many different reasons. Luck, good looks and connections can go a long way even with little talent. I am planing a video of guitar composers in order to feature Barrios, Tarrega, Lauro etc… I think people will remember these composers more than just the players. Thanks.
I bought a single of John Williams playing a rock version of Toccata and his composition Vivaldi when I was a teenager. I already had an LP of the 4 Seasons and a single of an organist playing Toccata and this was a whole new look at the music of those great composers. Then I came across Bream playing the lute suites. Yes, great players.
Yes, John Williams has done a lot of interesting things in his career and Julian Bream is a master at playing music from earlier periods like the Bach Suites. Thank you for your comment Liam.
