Is this the Santiago in Garden Grove or Corona

IMPOSSIBLE! There is no way a serious basketball coach wouldn't jump at the chance to have Max on his team. Not only is he good at all aspects of the game (awesome defender), he's practically dunking the ball at 14 years old. Santiago High School administration should look into this because a competent coaching staff wouldn't overlook a player with Max's basketball skills.

I've been told that Coach Rob Alexander has received this information. We'll see if he steps in to make things right.

Cameron Novak UPDATE - Unfortunate, but it's looking more and more like coach Rob Alexander isn't interested in doing the right thing in this situation, but Max is staying positive and keeping his game sharp by playing in the Legacy Men's League, where he is currently shooting 57.9% from the field, is tied for the most rebounds on his team, and is the 3rd highest points scorer (he's also #1 in the block category and hasn't missed a free throw through 3 games). - It should be noted that Max is earning these stats in a league for 18yrs+ only... After seeing the video above, Max was given an exception to play with the men.

My opinion: Rob Alexander (aka Robert C. Alexander and Robert Alexander) hasn't overlooked Max, rather he knows how good Max is and he's left his ethics with his 3-17 league record coaching stint in his previous head coaching job at Fullerton High School 2011 and 2012 (one might guess they couldn't have that contract expire soon enough). This year Rob Alexander has denied Max a spot on the team and instead added several players to the roster that either didn't attend the tryout, or shouldn't have been chosen over other, more skilled players. One of these kids has absolutely horrible basketball skills, but Coach Alexander seemingly added the kid to the roster simply because his parents are involved with the boosters (and who knows what else) which gives benefit to Rob's program. Here's a highlight clip from the last several days playing against various people (some larger, some taller, some stronger, some on varsity teams at other schools, some on varsity at Santiago High School, some on JV or FroshSoph at Santiago High School, and some who play or have played college or pro ball... ua-cam.com/video/XQkMHFpi794/v-deo.html
You'd think a man in such a position would be careful to give every kid a fair chance at earning a spot on the basketball team. It's my opinion that guys like Rob Alexander are failing to fulfill their fiduciary duty of care for their students/athletes. (note: If you have had a bad experience with Rob Alexander at Santiago High School or any other venue/school, please share it with OnYourSide@KeenReport.com to join other parents, students, and athletes in holding coaches accountable to our kids.
NOTE: Max, just a couple days removed from being denied a spot on the basketball team, shot 53% from the field and scored 20 points in Legacy Men's League play (these guys are somewhat better than the sophomores in high school).

I heard it's much better there now that they let Rob go.

I was overlooked too, even though I'm only 53 I am better than all the other players in that video, me and max would probably make a good duo

Santiago High School Basketball (shame on you coach Rob Alexander... Max earned and deserves a spot on the team)... I'm amazed that you're willing to deny an opportunity to a hard working athlete student that obviously deserves to be on the team, even after he was promised a spot if he performed well in the tryout above.

Cameron Novak he missed a slightly contested fast break layup ( no contact ) and not once went up with his left hand, barely set screens, and can’t rely on him to dribble

@@Leeski2x lol you realize there are even nba players who never shoot with their weak hand

Mr Mackey when NBA players have opportunities to score with their strong hand then they take it, and just because they *don’t* use their off hand doesn’t that they *can’t* use it, he clear can’t use his off hand (in the video) as he doesn’t take a single shot with his left. And what you said is not true, Harden may not seem like he uses his right but he uses it all the time to score, don’t watch the highlights watch the game

Ridiculous that this kid wasn't included on the team. The garbage record the Freshman team ended the season with indicates a clear lack of attention in selecting the best ball players for the team from such a large student body (almost 4,000 students). Some of them deserved to be on the team, some obviously did not. Sadly, head coach Rob Alexander appears to be playing favorites again this year as Max was denied a spot on the team while other kids with lesser skills were given a free pass to the rosters (some even doing horribly in the tryout, and being let out early without being required to tryout with everyone else).

Was it a studies/grade thing? They probably want someone well rounded and just doesn't know how to play basketball? Perhaps he was paid off by the other schools to not pick him up so they wouldn't lose? 3 of the 4 evaluating coaches recommended Max, what was said about the 1 out the 4 that did not recommend Max? Further investigation has to be known as to why. Maybe the parents paid the coach off to pick up their kid secretly? Perhaps he knows the other kids personally and doesn't know Max? Rapport and chose the one's he knew already and slots became full?
I don't think it's about "winning" games as the coach probably gets paid the same. Maybe the coach was pissed he couldn't coach college or a better high school? Maybe he just doesn't want Max to succeed? Maybe he doesn't want to train really good players more as it would be more work? He would be doing too much homework at home? Maybe the coach isn't passionate about winning? What if it was an academic issue the whole time? The academic sporting code minimum "secret" standard?

Hopefully athletic director Steve Mitchell and principal Dr. Ryan Lewis take action soon to right this program. There are many honest, ethical, responsible, and proficient coaches available. We don't need to keep one with questionable ethics and a less than stellar record with prior teams. Rob Alexander needs to go.
