Very similar start to playing with and then on the radio Walt. A good conversation can’t be beat.
Just returned from a weeks vacation along Lake Michigan. I used my G90 from the car with ham sticks on a mag Mount. I love my G90 and was impressed with all the contacts I was making on 20 meters. One DX to the Cayman Islands. Got great reports.
Awesome Denny! Yes that is a great radio. Love that part of the country, my job sends me up on the Upper Peninsula every once in a while. Glad you had a great vacation my friend!!!
@@COASTALWAVESWIRES Do the Great Lakes work as a ground plane in a similar way the salt water does? I'm not too far from Lake Michigan myself and it may merit a trip!
@@av3510 I don’t think you’re going to get the salt water effect that I get by the ocean but I’m sure the reflective properties of the lake will still give you an advantage.
Awesome video.. Amazing contacts and fun can happen on HF low power SSB (using 20,000mW, LOL).. Thanks for sharing in all your adventures in Poland... Also, thanks for including the distance for your QSO's.. For a guy sitting in Iowa, I have no idea what the distance is from your QTH to the different areas of Europe and your subtitles help give a good reference.. thx for the great content as always ! !... 73, k0klb
Thanks so much Kevin, not quite QRP but at least the antenna is a QRP antenna LOL.
haha.. close enough to QRP in my book, LOL.. Have fun with all you brought brother !..
👀💯🙋♂👍
This Dipole Antenna is doing a fine Job for you. 💯👍
Yes it is!
Well, you did it. You made me spend money! 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for the great videos Walt.
Hahaha thanks Pedro!
Hitting it out of the park, again Walt! Cool to see you deploy an antenna from N9SAB. I just got his end fed half wave for 40m-10m and it is great. Nice build and really light. I've got it at the house running an inverted V from a tree in the garden. Appreciate your PSA, ignore the haters. I'm learning cw myself, but like you said the cool thing about radio is you can do your own thing. For me it is experimenting with and understanding propagation so I dig your efforts in terms of trying new things. Soldier on, brother.
Thanks so much brother! I’m thinking about getting that N9SAB EFHW for my next deployment here in November. All the best and 73!
I have the 20/40 dipole and had a 17 mtr Dipole made years ago. Well made and lightweight. Tim does a great jobs with them.
Yes he does! Thanks for watching. 73 Walt K4OGO
I have his 100w, 80m ocfd and so far I have no complaints whatsoever.
Use whatever mode you like and they should too, 73.
Awesome and thanks for watching!
Great video Walt. Plus great words. Likewise I am qrp ssb but 5 whisky's. Hope to catch you on tge waves.
Motters M7TRS 🇬🇧 73 👍🏻
Thanks! Hope to make that contact!
I don't know why so many people insist on telling others what they should be doing. It's quite obvious you love what you're doing. I'm getting ready to order this same antenna in the 10m flavor with the 1:1 choke balun. I've just ordered the Xiegu G90 to go with this antenna. But wouldn't you know it, 10m is dead now. 73s Walt.
10 meters is coming back, day by day. It will be a great autumn season. 73
Thanks Walt for your experimentation while abroad. It helps knowing how different antennas work. Thanks for doing all the testing. I have a G90 also.
Thanks Will, I really enjoy experimenting with different antennas. Love my G90!
Hi Walt - thank for posting the dipole review. I have the 20/40 linked dipole version from Tim. Great little portable antenna. Bulletproof.
I'm slowly learning CW, but i agree with your preference for SSB.
Safe journeys,
Guy - AE6FE
Thanks so much Guy! 73, Walt K4OGO
I Walt really enjoy your channel also agree that I am a voice guy too do not care anything about the digital modes I would rather talk to somebody have a great day
Thanks Marty! Have a great day!
Walt, great video and cool antenna! I have seen those for sale on eBay before. Thanks for giving it a shot, sure looks like it does the trick. Took me 3 tries to get through this one, but not because of you. I’m just getting over a bout of Covid, and the brain fog made it hard to focus on anything. I’m on the mend, though, and ready to get back out there portable. I just bought a G90 weekend before last, but my plans got squashed. Oh well!
Thanks Nate, hope you’re feeling better. You’re going to love that G90!
What an Absolutely Brilliant vidclip .... So enjoyed it .... We work Mostly on 27Mhz CB Band, live in Christchurch, New Zealand and work a Lot of DX to Australia and sometimes Surprisingly well to The States too .... Keep well and Stay safe .... Best wishes to All ..... Cheers ..... Keith KK2451 / WR2451
Thanks so much Keith! Cheers…Walt
Fun stuff. Looks like Poland is treating you well. KO4HPC 73
Thanks Adam, yes I’m having a great time when I’m not working. 73!
Hey Walt! Yet another video that I really enjoyed watching. 👍📻⚡Thanks for the nice production. I got into amateur radio more recently because of the lure of voice contacts from near and far as well. While I also enjoy trying the digital modes and seeing how far my weak signal goes, phone/voice is the catalyst for my radio passion. Thanks for addressing comments from those that want to tell you what to do with your hobby. And, as they say, "You do you". 👍 Cheers Walt! Tom - WA7FLY
Thanks so much Tom! Cheers my friend!
Thanks Walt, For another Awesome Video ,!!!!
Thanks John!
I watch your vids and am subbed to your channel for just the reason you make the vids. I like making contacts on low power, hf, ssb. I love my G90. It is the best hf radio for what I want to do. I love doing POTA both activating and hunting. Keep doing what your doing and I will keep watching.
Thank you so much! All the best and good DX my friend!!!
Great video. I have looked at that dipole a lot of times, but I haven't bought it yet. I might now.
It’s built really well, it’s going to be a keeper in my travel bag. Thanks for watching my friend!
Band conditions 😁 they've been fun this summer, it's been a proper challenge with all the solar weather so far but that's part of the fun of it, if we've gone out and made a contact well that's a result, with you on working SSB I'd rather talk to people, have a nice one Walt, 73 I off down to the pub 🍻.
Cheers Adam! Have a pint for me mate!!!!
I always enjoy the experimentation. Thanks for doing that. It almost seems you were NVIS with the sloper configuration. Kind of interesting.
Watching to check out your use of the N9SAB antenna (just ordered two with the choke - Tim customized both for CW frequencies and I had them five days after ordering them) and saw your PSA, which I think is spot on. To each their own. Hilariously, I got into CW because I never wanted to hear anyone say, "Roger roger" again.
Enjoyed the video. Thanks Walt.
Haha thanks Pat, I’ll have to stop myself from saying Roger Roger now. Yes I was thinking the same thing about the sloping position.
All the best and 73! Walt
I agree with the PSA. I’m the same way. If you like FT8 or CW, good for you. The best part of amateur radio is that you can do what you want with it. For me it isn’t the number of contacts, it’s being able to talk one on one with a distant contact on my G90.
Right on!
Hey Walt thanks for another great video. I’m just getting back into the hobby after a 10yr hiatus. This time around I have room and time to put up and experiment with different antennas and enjoy what you’re doing. Keep the videos coming! One way to improve your channel would be better audio. Just a suggestion for us older guys with poor hearing.
Thanks! Yes I’ve experimented with a few different mics. I’m learning this video making hobby as well. Hopefully I’ll master the audio production as I keep making videos. All the best and 73!
Walt, another nice video. You use the mode(s) and power you want to use. 73
Thanks Tim! Now that you’re back from holiday I’ll be looking for you on the bands! 73
hi walt, great video, and love that ant, walt using a dipole wow hi hi. that radio audio sound really nice also. iam mainly cw, but after following your videos for some time, now i actually venture onto ssb to have a listen. take it easy mate, stay well, and dont get me started on ft8 hi hi.
Hi Brian, great to hear from you my friend. It was that CW signal that got us through on our Virginia to New Zealand QSO! Stay well and all the best!!
I think your experience with that French station underlines why I don't do contests. I use the same dipole you have for SOTA activations and it's awesome.
Yes this is a great little antenna. Thanks for watching!
Great! I have this small RF choke, it works great. Normally my EFHF has the SWR of 1.4 and when I put this choke it goes to 1:1. Idk what this choke has but it helps with the SWR
Yes it works great keeping the RF on the antenna and out of the coax. Thanks for watching!
Cool
Thanks!
I too like you vertical fan. Height is might with a dipole for dx.
Yes it is! Thanks for watching!
Great video as always, Walt. I can't believe you dirtied your hands with that dipole 😉.
Are you on in the evenings during the week or just at the weekends during your SP/ mission?
Thanks! I’m on both evenings and weekends.
Nice video! I noticed that your SWR was peaking at 2.5 - 3 in the first part of the video, but when you changed the antenna to a sloper then the SWR improved somewhat. I was wondering if you were getting any RF back into your radio. I was able to tune a 20 meter dipole inside the house upstairs, but when I transmitted, the SWR was all over the place. 73 KD5YOU
Thanks John! I never got RF back into the radio but do remember the SWR change when repositioning the antenna. Been a while since I did this one, I need to go back and take a look. 73 de K4OGO
Shame the French station did not give you a signal report, but at the same time in the Russian RDA contest, the only stations non Russian hams log are Russian stations only !!
You would be easy to work from here in the South West of France however finding the mic for the rig is more complicated at i almost never operate on phone.
Nice video as always and a neat little single band antenna, might just get one myself...
Thanks Anthony! It’s a great little antenna. 83 and good DX!
While your transmitting your SWR is showing it is going up above 2:1...Not sure how accurate the G90s meter is.
Good for your portable kit but don't plan on its "Ruggedness" for a permanent install.
I don’t this is a portable antenna intended to be that
hi again if you are in poland get your hands on the legendary r140 amplifier, that contct is from rusiian federation usualy the operate wery hy power on the r 140 amplifiers 1000w and up ther is a gui in Katyryk he operats about 5 Kw to 10 kW on 80 m you need lots of power to get in the norden lands of rusia and wery hy up antenass maby tray nviz antena 73
I’m sorry, but you didn’t “build” an antenna. You purchased an antenna an put it up. All the same, impressive. Well done.
Yeah I said “put up a dipole” in answer to the “build a dipole” comments. I never said I built a dipole.
Not seeing how a portable setup would work for this if we don't have trees (e.g. desert or treeless summits etc)
I’m thinking inverted V with a pole, I’m going to give it a try
@@COASTALWAVESWIRES the trick is the pole. They're either a)way overpriced for a collapsible b) really heavy or thin-walled to save weight. Both present problems for the mobile activation, either heavy to pack or flimsy on wind c) sketchy locking for the sections/they collapse easily or don't hold up their own weight well, especially taller poles d) aren't tall enough (or, again, if they are tall enough, they're super thick walled and nearly 8+ to 10 lbs a pole!), which is a huge issue for QRP wattages
