  • Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis has called for Jews to be “brave” and challenge Muslims over Israel following “deeply disappointing” criticism of the Jewish state since October 7.
Advocating a seismic shift in the community’s approach to interfaith work of the kind not seen since the Holocaust, Rabbi Mirvis told a JC event at JW3 on Tuesday that Jewish-Muslim engagement now needed to take place on fresh terms, whereby Israel was no longer the “elephant in the room”.

The antisemitism and antizionism of the Irish society also need to be confronted.

Very true, the fight on social media is very hard. A lot of people hold entrenched views.

October 7th changed my whole world view. Utterly. Completely. Deep down - encompassing Israel, the Middle East and much, much, much ... much more. Nothing will ever be the same. Shalom - Kol od ba’le’vav p’nima, nefesh yehudi ho’miyah.

I think a lot of the still thoughtful people feel the same.
Firstly, how could such a thoroughly evil attack, of such horror and scale, be undertaken in this century. We have learned that our peaceful and humane societies are but a fragile bubble within a history of inhumanity.
Secondly, how could such hatred for Jews still exist, despite all that they have suffered.
Thirdly, propaganda was a very significant reason and methodology for the attack. It was recorded and widely publicized.
Fourthly, how could the narrative be so rapidly overturned, to place blame and condemnation upon Israel.
Fifthly, how could so many in the west, institutions, national media, social justice movements, be recruited to support terrorism.
It appears that basic morality, humanity, empathy, compassion, is less common than we believed.

So much for apartheid when the Rabbi talked about the care his daughter received from Arab doctors and nurses in Israel. And then the comments about Arabs in Israel who see themselves as Israelis first.

Don't forget, the Pakistani imams, in 1971, published "fatwas" that their "fighters have the right to war booty" of Bangladeshi Hindu women. That time, 100,000 rapes, realistically estimated.

The is more than one elephant in the room. You achieve nothing by choosing to ignore the ones everyone else rode in on.

When you see the smoke rising up into the sky above churches and mosk we all will know that all those religions were not protected by God. The one that survives this judgement period by God is the true religion.
