God bless you Ronnie l used to come with my Dad and watch you live when you where with us. HOPE YOU'RE STILL SINGING IN HEVEN GOD BLESS YOU ALL NOT FORGETTING THE GREAT LUKE KELLY XXXX🕊️🕊️🕊️😇😇😇❤️❤️🙏🙏😢
Yesterday, I was drinking at the Bushranger Pub in Collector, NSW. Eric Bogle drank with an old cockie there in the early 70s. An old cockie told Eric his life story. Eric wrote this song after this conversation.
This song has been making me tear up for years; beautiful. (and whenever I wonder what god would look like, I get two guys: Morgan Freeman or Ronnie Drew....this man has SO much gravitas and natural dignity)
Australia sent the 8th Division of the Australian Army to fortify Malaya and Singapore during WW2. The Japanese Army captured them. About a third of the soldiers died from starvation and Japanese brutality. Most died building a railway from Thailand to Burma (Myanmar). About 50,000 Europeans (Dutch, British and Australians) and 200,000 Asians died building this now abandoned railway.
If Ronnie could walk around Dublin today he'd be staring down at the pavement in shock and horror. A melting pot of some sort of apocalypse. Culture gone forever. RIP
The image of a guy who’s lost everyone he loved, growing old and toiling on alone, is unbearably sad. I’d say only singers like Ronnie, Luke (and probably Bob Dylan) could tell a tale like that without losing it to sentimentality. It’s certainly sad but you can come away admiring the fortitude of the narrator, rather than simply pitying him. And that’s one of the reasons why Ronnie Drew is one of the greats, folks. 🙂✌️
Flashlyrics Now I'm Easy Lyrics For nearly sixty years I've been a cocky Of droughts and fires and floods I've lived through plenty This country's dust and mud Have seen my tears and blood But it's nearly over now And now I'm easy I married a fine girl when I was twenty She died in giving birth When she was thirty No flying doctor then Just a gentle old black gen. But it's nearly over now And now I'm easy She left me with two sons and a daughter And a bone dry farm Whose soil cried out for water Though my care was rough and ready They grew up fine and steady But it's nearly over now And now I'm easy My daughter married young And went her own way My sons lie buried By the Burma railway So on this land I've made me home I've carried on alone But it's nearly over now And now I'm easy Oh, city folks, these days despise the cocky Saying with subsidies and dole We've had it easy But there's no drought or starving stock On the sewered suburban block But it's nearly over now And now I'm easy For nearly sixty years I've been a cocky Of droughts and fires and floods I've lived through plenty This country's dust and mud Have seen my tears and blood But it's nearly over now And now I'm easy But it's nearly over now And now I'm easy Cocky: is a slang word for farmer: Australian origin. The song's wonderful, Ronnie Drew's great, as usual, but that band... seriously, keyboards!? No, no, Ronnie, you shouldn't have let them do that to you, or to the song. If he had done this with the Dubliners, it would have been superb.

Look I'm a youngster from Northern Europe and though I understand the English language the Burma Railway part hit way harder after reading this

The Japanese great ideal culture, saw the results of their barbarism towards POWs in my own family circle, savages all, it’s their culture.
Yes the Japanese were brutal but they done nothing that the British army and empire done x10@@gary1477

Brilliant
Anyone know what "I'm easy" means
I've figured it's like... "I'm content" or "I'm at peace" but not sure
At peace
I've transcended it all, attained peace.
1:50 has there ever been a sadder and more powerful lyric written in the whole history of music in the anglosphere?
Ronnie 💖💔💖💯
my song at my funeral ❤
❤
Only one Ronnie drew.
Ronnie was unique. Sadly missed.
The price payable for our freedom. Paid in death and blood. The oath doesn't expire
❤❤❤
Fucking hell!!!
If Ronnie could walk around Dublin today he'd be staring down at the pavement in shock and horror. A melting pot of some sort of apocalypse. Culture gone forever. RIP
💯 agreed mo chara
Ronnie drew up there with DYLAN CHRISTY MOORE & LIAM CLANCY - THROUGH IN MICK JAGGER .IMAGINE THAT LOT ON STAGE TOGETHER.
I would not rate any of the above. B

Now I'm Easy Lyrics
For nearly sixty years I've been a cocky
Of droughts and fires and floods
I've lived through plenty
This country's dust and mud
Have seen my tears and blood
But it's nearly over now
And now I'm easy
I married a fine girl when I was twenty
She died in giving birth
When she was thirty
No flying doctor then
Just a gentle old black gen.
But it's nearly over now
And now I'm easy
She left me with two sons and a daughter
And a bone dry farm
Whose soil cried out for water
Though my care was rough and ready
They grew up fine and steady
But it's nearly over now
And now I'm easy
My daughter married young
And went her own way
My sons lie buried
By the Burma railway
So on this land I've made me home
I've carried on alone
But it's nearly over now
And now I'm easy
Oh, city folks, these days despise the cocky
Saying with subsidies and dole
We've had it easy
But there's no drought or starving stock
On the sewered suburban block
But it's nearly over now
And now I'm easy
For nearly sixty years I've been a cocky
Of droughts and fires and floods
I've lived through plenty
This country's dust and mud
Have seen my tears and blood
But it's nearly over now
And now I'm easy

NOW I'M EASY LYRICS
"Now I'm Easy" is a song by Ronnie Drew.
Hilarious that some letters in the word "cocky" have been replaced by asterisks! 😂It's an Australian slang word for farmer.
Thank you for printing lyrics it makes the song much more enjoyable.
Old Black "Gen"
is actually Old Black Gin meaning Old Aboriginal Woman
Old black gin is referring to an old Aboriginal Lady who knew and understood human life.
What a so beautiful Hu Hu💯🫀🫵🧑🦱🐕🦺🥂🍻
Ronnie has a wonderful crusty old Dublin accent that you dont hear no more?
that's the song I want to play at my funeral ❤❤
Mr Bogle may have sung and wrote these lyrics but he doesn't sing it like Ronnie .. Great voice ..
The best sing..so true so sad so poignant im English born but irish through to me boots mam n dan grandads bk to 10th century
Agree 100% X Dominic
Agree
I just typed in his name and heard this brilliant song for the first time...awesome
He is playing G C D and is it a G7?

Pecker dunne sings the best version
Charles Phillip ABDilla Beashel
Sadly, band is so loud, drowning out singer.
More like a unity. It's easy enough to hear him and those dulcet instruments really capture the sentiments without being sentimental
