I remember The Buttercream Gang. We use to watch it in school. I don’t remember much of the plot. Just that it was group of kids trying to do good stuff. 😂
I wish I had a nickel for every time I had to watch The Buttercream Gang in a church basement on a Wednesday night when the youth leader called in sick.
I discovered recently, despite seeing tons of DVD's in thrift stores Etc. They still make up 78% of the home physical disc retail for Movies/TV... Blu Ray never really caught on as much as people believe it did.
It's such an odd thing. I still have a few DVDs lingering in my collection, but anything that I really cared about that's been released on Blu-Ray I've replaced with it. A Blu-Ray player connected to a modern TV just looks so much better than a DVD player connected to a modern TV. I have noticed there's also tons of stuff that hasn't gotten Blu-Ray releases yet so DVD is still the best way to watch some things.
DVDs when upscaled can be surprisingly solid, but while Blu-rays are vastly better, in the end due to the fact a majority of the population simply don’t care about physical media ownership anymore it’s essentially been the Laserdisc of the new era, roping in picky cinephiles and basically no one else. There are a bunch of old cult movies that have skipped DVD entirely and went straight to Blu-ray, but they’re all things a mainstream audience would never care about. I do hope BD can stick around an extra decade at least catering to those who love it (and I think it will, in a limited capacity) but there’s already a troubling number of recent films from notable filmmakers that are Netflix exclusives (ignoring other streaming services even) that will probably never reach physical media
@@MinoTheShow Yeah, TV's and some DVD players do such a really good job at upscaling images now, to the point you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference, unless you have a super high end TV. Don't get me wrong, I will buy the Blu Ray version over DVD if there's a choice every time. But older TV shows are still sold DVD only, so the image quality wouldn't really be any improvement.
@@Larry Yeah, I have lots of DVDs of older animated shows shot on film and edited/finalized on analog video and I feel like every time I pop them in I can be surprised at how well they hold up on my modern TV compared to how 480p is compressed and represented over most streaming services. It’s still somehow a vast world of difference when a company like Warner Archive goes back to the film and puts out a native HD Blu-ray disc of that same content!
Used to live in Central Phoenix and also wondered what this location was originally. Just happened upon an old post card on Ebay and also found a bit online once I had a name. As mentioned by someone on here previously it was an AL Beadle project. PBSW Office Equipment Center built in 1960.

Saw Secret of Nimh when I was 7 years old in 82 at the theater. Still my favorite classic cartoon movie. No CGI just good old fashioned art and Don Bluth one of the best Animators of our time. One of the movies was so emotional to me because it had to do with someone being mean at a cat since I am a cat fan or something I don't remember the particular thing that got to me, that I had to give it away to my cousins and never watch it again!
The thing about VCDs is that occasionally you can find some stuff that was never released on home formats in the US, especially old Disney and other kids’ shows. Most of them even use the stereo soundtrack to do dual mono audio in say Cantonese and English. Fascinating use of a limited technology. Also has no DRM, it’s just a cd with an MPEG 1 file, which is why studios never adopted it here. Okay enough weird format geeking for now.
Oh my God! I had that Buttercream gang VHS. My Mom ordered it for me along with some other movies from some telemarketer that called her. I never watched any of them.
Funny thing is I had that same stereo as a kid, but it was red. Used to detach the speakers and put them on my bed and listen to music as I slept. Also, I have the TG-16 CD Ys boo1+2 games and used to play the music through the aux input on my stereo. You unlocked an old nostalgic memory for me right there.
Love Blu Ray. I am hesitant to stop buying physical media for several reasons: The original music is removed, Netflix played SPN missing key songs and pulled the series before the Series Finale; Some DB at Amazon was quoted as saying, people don't OWN the content they buy(full prices)we can remove it at anytime.
Found a copy of Smallville on VCD in the UK (1 episode per disc, so potentially 217 discs 🤯) And the PD James series Devices and Desires was produced by my local TV broadcaster and sometimes used local areas for filming.
My wife and I loved going into thrift stores but right now where we live there is only one Goodwill and it is horrible with very little in it. I had to buy Father of Bride when it came out because I grew up two blocks from the house where they filmed the exterior shots and knew a girl who grew up in the house.
Coincidentally, I just got the Wii version of NBA Jam at a Deseret Industries thrift store a few days ago. Glad to see that you found a game you were looking for that still had the disc in the case. Awesome stereo find as well! Also, that Yanni CD reminded me of a Beavis and Butt-head episode that featured one of his videos. At one point in the video, Butt-head cranks the sound up to annoy Beavis.
Bro in front of that second good will was a thrift store that was called "Flows" I used to go there a lot but it was closed last year because of covid 😭
I always enjoy your thrift store videos. I’m surprised that the games are out in the open areas like that. Every Goodwill that I have visited keeps them behind the counter or inside the glass case.

They stopped doing that here several years ago. They had a big problem with cashiers remembering to put the discs in the cases when people checked out and they wouldn't notice until they got home.
@@RetailArchaeology Ok it's been a while but the last time they had a notebook at the Desk with cd's in them and they get the box and look up some sort of number, flip through the cd notebook, pull out the cd then put it into the box. That is how I experienced it.
How can Goodwill prevent the discs from being stolen? Can't they put the discs in a locked cabinet at the register. You bring the case up to the front when your ready to buy, and they find the disc for it? Basically like what gamestop does.
When I was vacationing South Carolina back then, I saw a few oddities in thrift shops like British video tapes and an Malaysian VCD. You may call me Mr. Worldwide now
So does anyone know why DVD/CDs are always missing from their case? I’ve noticed that too and came to the conclusion that they are given to Goodwill that way or they are stolen in the store.

I notice that some if the receivers was missing the volume knobs. What's up with that? I have notice this at other Goodwills too!
You take the cd box up to the counter and the disc is there. This is how they do it at the Goodwills in certain places. So valuable discs might be at the counter.
Congrats on 100k subscribers!
7th and Indian School location used to be a salvation army store.. but prior to that was a ZIA ..
I collect DVDs, not blu rays. I need to check out a goodwill!
I think that Goodwill is the old Zia Records at 7th & Indian school. I used to work there :)
How can Goodwill prevent the discs from being stolen? Can't they put the discs in a locked cabinet at the register. You bring the case up to the front when your ready to buy, and they find the disc for it? Basically like what gamestop does.
the second Goodwill location seemed to have crop circle art on the wall
Thrifting Time is the best time
Imagine being so destitute you can’t afford to pay for a cd game at goodwill and have to steal it.
What was that giant pink case on the video game shelf in the second store?
If the second goodwill store was on 7th ave & Indian School I believe that used to be a ZIA Record Store at one time.
TG16 YS Soundtrack? I had a feeling you were into retro games. 😆
