THANK YOU SO MUCH! I had the exact same boiler symptoms as you and took the cap off and the same dirty, debris-filled water poured out. You don’t need to touch any gas valves or anything else - just that dark grey syphon cap as Peter says - and the water will come flowing out. I have 3 kids including a newborn and it’s Tues 13th 2022 - very cold week this week! Worst time for the boiler to shut down. I’ve actually done a follow up video showing how I followed the instructions on our boiler. Thank you very much again for doing this video. An engineer couldn’t come out for days so we would have been stuck without hot water or heating with a 2 week old baby!
My boiler just stopped today, no error codes etc - I checked all fuses no issues found. I then looked underneath and saw the clips on the clear plastic end - unhooking them a load of water and crap came out onto my kitchen counter. It was like grit! I cleaned it up and put the cap back plugged boiler back in and it started thankfully. Just giving it a good run at high heat for a while then will drop the cap again as looks full of grey gritty stuff again. Just found your video too so watching that lol
I had just this problem, with this boiler - and it seems to have fixed it for me. Thank you very much - quite incredibly satisfying going from a noisy boiler that kept cutting out and appeared to be in its death-throws, to one that's happily purring.
Cool! Thanks for the video! Had the same problem and your video confirmed it. Have now just cleaned the Syphon. Full of crap which had backed up with water and was restricting the air flow for the burner.
Great video! Helped sort the issues with my boiler. Originally I thought the pressure was low but, it was making noises and the pilot light kept going on and off and it kept needing to be reset. Happened to find your video on the syphon filter and it needed to be emptied. Now it’s running fine with no noises what so ever! Thanks again Pete🙌🏼
Thank you so much for posting this. It fixed the issue I was having with my boiler and was simple to do. A tip (if anyone reads this), after trying this method once my boiler fired for longer but then stopped with warning light returning. I repeated the cleaning again and got more water and sludge than before. After this, my boiler stays on and is much quieter than before!
I know this is late but this is very dangerous and is why a gas safe engineer should visit. That syphon needs to stay full of water to prevent toxic flue gasses including carbon monoxide potentially leaking out of your water waste. I'm a big advocate of fixing things yourself but you've just proved sometimes a professional is the best option
yes but the condensate is routed outside in many cases to a drain. If you want to be smart, then tell people how to fill it back up - but I suspect the system will correct the level itself with use.
@@rsturbolad26 Irrelevant, its part of the flue system, needs to be primed after cleaning! there is a reason why you must by LAW be gas safe, its a gas appliance!!! better to pay the fee for a qualified engineer than co poisoning, these video's are inviting disaster...
Christmas eve and our boiler has been out since 1 am last night. Cant thank you enough dude. I did this and 5 minutes later my boiler has come back to life! Thank you!
Thank you very much mate, you saved me from very cold days and nights. It's -6 outside and the first engineer available would be to 3 weeks ahead. My boiler is running like a charm now.
Thanks for your help, it worked for me! Just make sure you clean the whole siphon properly with a pick or wire. In my case it was a solid piece of dirt so needed some digging. Thanks again!
Nice one, just tried this. seems to have fixed the problem , Thanx TIP, The syphon is connected to a white plastic pipe which goes outside of your building and by law has usually got to be connected to a rainwater down pipe. I checked where it was connected and found down pipe was blocked ! This is what must of caused the problem with my boiler. I have left it disconnected until i get a chance to clean out the down pipe.
I have the same problem, you explained it very well but unfortunately may have to get a plumber not confident to try myself. But great in depth explanation.
Yes. There's a tab coming up off the cap, that attaches to the siphon - towards you at ua-cam.com/video/ivA-LUSVBDU/v-deo.html There might be another one on the other side (I'm sure I undid one at the back, that was easier to get to). Anyway, once one was undone, the cap just hinged down and all the gunk came flying out. I then wasn't sure I'd sealed it properly, so re-opened it and more came out. I can only think my boiler was just full of this stuff and it might take a while for it all to work its way through and out. To close it I needed to push the cap up, and then side-tab clicked over the notch.
@@eddienimmo Clean it a few months ago & turned on the heating with windows open, after short period of time the syphon refilled & it’s still working fine.
@@eddienimmoThe boiler should kick into siphon fill automatically, but if it doesn’t, it’s not hard to put it into/out of siphon fill with a button sequence.

did you prime condense after? check case seal? co reading? ffs....

Cheers mate life saver
Mate you need to service your boiler that's what it means
Thanks
👍👍
Thank you soooo much. I was so scared that I would have to pay and arm and a leg to get this sorted. This did the trick. Thank you
Does the syphon cap come off easy ?
Yes.

Does the syphon has to be refilled after cleaning or it refill automatically? 🙏
Needs refilling with water in order to do its job (trapping poisonous fumes). If you don't refill it the fumes escape and could kill you as you sleep.

DO NOT DO THIS. IT IS EXTREMLY DANGEROUS. YOU NEED TO CALL A GAS SAFE ENGINEER IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH YOUR BOILER.
DO NOT WORK ON YOUR GAS BOILER UNLESS QUALIFIED!!!!
