Any chance could you tap into interior power towards the rear of the vehicle instead of running the cable to the battery? (taillights or trunk/cargo light)
Can you do that? Sure. Should you? No. Installing the harness with the power feed coming directly from the battery per the instructions will isolate the vehicle's electrical system from any problems that happen with the trailer wiring. You would want to run the power wire the auxiliary battery.
