How to Tie a Loop Knot for Fishing - Knot Contest WINNER!

  • This video shows in detail how to tie a strong loop knot for fishing.
    It's name is the"Non-Slip Loop knot" and it also seems to be called the "Kreh Loop Knot".
    This Loop Knot is very popular throughout the saltwater fishing community due to how easy it is to tie with any size leader line.
    This fishing knot is best used with artificial lures because the loop allows maximum mobility the lure for the most life-like action possible. As an added bonus, the tag end of this knot points directly down towards the hook/lure, so it's completely weedless... this is a big factor if you're tossing artificial lures on the grass flats much of the time like we do.
    As this video shows, the knot is extremely easy to tie and does not require the lure to have to pass through a loop during the tying process which is often tough to do when using a lure with multiple sets of hooks.
    We currently performing a knot strength analysis on all of the top loop knots such as:
    - Rapala Loop Knot
    - Perfection Loop Knot
    - Canoe Man Loop Knot
    - Kreh Loop Knot
    The results will be published on www.saltstrong.com so be sure to drop by and see which one earns the status as the 'best saltwater fishing knot'.

    I know this was put up almost 5 years ago but I still need to say thanks and thanks again. I learned this knot in a few minutes and practiced a bit after that. GREAT knot, so much quicker and slicker than many other loops I've tried. Thank you again.

    I like that the tag end comes out toward the bait. I just added a flouro leader and re-tied my Karashi using this knot. I had it tied straight braid to bait using a Double San Diego Jam and wasn’t getting the action I expected from the bait.
    I had thought about adding a split ring but didn’t want the added weight to affect the action or buoyancy. I think this knot is my answer. Thanks for the clear and precise tutorial!

      A lot of people don't like videos that are in their opinion too slow. The only thing I had a problem with is lack of contrast between the line and background. But yeah salt strong is definitely becoming a trusted source for fishing technical information and the videos are great in terms of information, clarity and production value.

    I have always used the Loop Knot, and for years, that is pretty much all I tied untill I was about 10 years old and learned others. I use the Loop Knot to this very day including on 8 day long range trips for Tuna. What I like best about this knot is that you have the loop on the mono which allows your bait greater freedom of movement, making it more lively, increasing your chances of being bit. Great knot!

  • @shadrach1999
    @shadrach1999 7 років тому +55

    Some call this a "Non-slip loop knot". The way he describes the upside and downside of the loop is cool. You could also look at it like you always pass the tag line back through the side it just came out of. Another note on this knot is that you're just tying a clinch knot on top of an overhand knot... if it helps you to think of it that way.

    My Grandfather always used a loop knot that I, sadly, never asked him how to tie before he passed. The way he did it, was to tie one hook in a loop knot, then a bit further down, tie a second hook on(using a loop knot of course), then at the bottom, he would tie his sinker, using a standard fisherman's knot. I believe the knot in this video is very similar to his, so thank you very much for the help!!

    Great knot, especially useful with Clousers. I found it could be made stronger by starting with a double overhead knot instead of the single overhand. My testing was done done with 12# to 20# fluorocarbon. The knot using the single overhand always broke before the double overhand.

    The King Sling is a great loop knot for top waters crank baits etc. Great vid. Thanks

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  6 років тому +1

      Yes, the king sling is a solid loop knot. The top reasons I like this one better is because I don't have to thread my lure through a loop (gets tough with lures) and the tag end points back towards the lure with this knot vs. up towards the rod with the King Sling making the KS knot more prone to snag floating debris in the water.

    not fishing related, but I needed to secure my solar panels which I mounted to some windows with suction cups, because I don't trust them I figured fishing line might be the safest bet as a safety device, especially because I got some fond memories wrestling with some fish in my teens so I know that these thin strings are almost as tough as steel.
