How to Tie a Loop Knot for Fishing - Knot Contest WINNER!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 січ 2015
- This video shows in detail how to tie a strong loop knot for fishing.
It's name is the"Non-Slip Loop knot" and it also seems to be called the "Kreh Loop Knot".
This Loop Knot is very popular throughout the saltwater fishing community due to how easy it is to tie with any size leader line.
This fishing knot is best used with artificial lures because the loop allows maximum mobility the lure for the most life-like action possible. As an added bonus, the tag end of this knot points directly down towards the hook/lure, so it's completely weedless... this is a big factor if you're tossing artificial lures on the grass flats much of the time like we do.
As this video shows, the knot is extremely easy to tie and does not require the lure to have to pass through a loop during the tying process which is often tough to do when using a lure with multiple sets of hooks.
We currently performing a knot strength analysis on all of the top loop knots such as:
- Rapala Loop Knot
- Perfection Loop Knot
- Canoe Man Loop Knot
- Kreh Loop Knot
The results will be published on www.saltstrong.com so be sure to drop by and see which one earns the status as the 'best saltwater fishing knot'.

Thank you. I'm 56 years old and have never gotten where I've been 100% confident in my knot tying. Thank you for this excellent demonstration.
I know this was put up almost 5 years ago but I still need to say thanks and thanks again. I learned this knot in a few minutes and practiced a bit after that. GREAT knot, so much quicker and slicker than many other loops I've tried. Thank you again.
Lefty’s Loop is my favorite and so is Salt Strong 💪 🎣👍 I always refer to your knot videos and I use this same knot along with the Top 5 knots you guys use as well and I fish fresh/salt waters and I flyfish as well. I’m happy for your success and appreciate your skills 👍🙏Thank You 🙏
Thank you for sharing this knot, I can already tell that I will probably use this knot a lot. It is surprisingly quick and easy to tie and strong.
Thanks for the great video. Very informative and easy instructions. I forgot how to tie them since it's been months since I went fishing. But I remember now, thanks to your video.
I use this knot pretty much every time I tie a lure on. Never failed me once.
I like that the tag end comes out toward the bait. I just added a flouro leader and re-tied my Karashi using this knot. I had it tied straight braid to bait using a Double San Diego Jam and wasn’t getting the action I expected from the bait.
I had thought about adding a split ring but didn’t want the added weight to affect the action or buoyancy. I think this knot is my answer. Thanks for the clear and precise tutorial!
That's as good of a demonstration as I've ever seen, for how to correctly tie a loop-knot, well done!
Thanks for the kind words John!
By far the best loop knot tutorial and technique I've seen! Thanks for this! Been having a hard time getting the loop to cinch down to the size I want with other techniques, but it's super easy this way, and seems very sturdy.
Glad it was helpful!
Great tutorial on this knot! I use this to tie on most of my artificials; great knot.
Thank you - this is really helpful. It’s especially good that you used actual mono or flouro instead of red string.
I’ve been working on my perfection loop skills, but this looks much simpler. Thanks, I’ll give it a try!
Who would rate this a thumbs down??? All 113 of you have serious issues. Nice tutorial on the knot.
Haha! Thanks for the support. I'm glad to see that you enjoyed this Loop knot tutorial. Fish On!

A lot of people don't like videos that are in their opinion too slow. The only thing I had a problem with is lack of contrast between the line and background. But yeah salt strong is definitely becoming a trusted source for fishing technical information and the videos are great in terms of information, clarity and production value.
Never been good with knots and always had my dad tie mine when I was a kid. Now that my little one is starting to fish I figured I better learn how. Very simple instructions that even a novice such as myself could follow. Thanks.
Glad to see that you enjoyed this loop knot video. Here's a link to see the listing of knots ranked by their strength for each type of knot in case you haven't yet seen it: www.saltstrong.com/articles/fishing-knots/
Great video. Well demonstrated and explained. I was needing a strong free knot for crankbaits. Thank you!!
Excellent multi-purpose knot, thanks for sharing this !
When I was a young kid, my Grandfather (a self-reliant Scotsman) taught me quite a few knots, and paid me a quarter for each one I became proficient with. I`ve spent a lifetime (50+ years) of using those knots to good advantage !
Black Waterdogs Thanks so much for leaving the great comment. How awesome that your grandfather taught you the knots that you've now used for 50+ years! I hope provide that sort of long-lasting teachings to my grandchildren when the time comes. Fish On!
Black Waterdogs : thank GOD for Grandpa's... They had so much wisdom to share... And stories to tell.. today's kids ani't got time to listen to people they video games to play.. thank goodness my 5 year old granddaughter likes to fish and help her pa pa Magic....
Perhaps the best or easiest way to tie the loop knot I've seen yet.
I have always used the Loop Knot, and for years, that is pretty much all I tied untill I was about 10 years old and learned others. I use the Loop Knot to this very day including on 8 day long range trips for Tuna. What I like best about this knot is that you have the loop on the mono which allows your bait greater freedom of movement, making it more lively, increasing your chances of being bit. Great knot!
Thanks for sharing!
Some call this a "Non-slip loop knot". The way he describes the upside and downside of the loop is cool. You could also look at it like you always pass the tag line back through the side it just came out of. Another note on this knot is that you're just tying a clinch knot on top of an overhand knot... if it helps you to think of it that way.
Yes it helps. Thanks
thank you so much this is my fist time to learn
I started using this knot for all inshore artificials & live baits...and it had immediate positive returns. The loop turns a good bait into a lethal one.
Good call!
This honestly is the 1st knot tutorial that I was able to do perfectly on my 1st try….thanks man!
Glad it was helpful!
Been retired. Took fishing back up again. Forgot this great knot. I have not lost any fish yet on the old knots. But it was close. Great dependable knot. Now I am off fishing with my Okuma. 5 pound test line. Got to give them a chance.
thank you! it was really easy to follow on and now i can do it! thumbs up
Wow! So easy. Thank you! I'm using fishing line to hang hummingbird bird feeders. It's a strong knot!
That's a great idea!
Very simple... I must try using this new knot.. tks for the new knot. Who said can't teach an old dogs new tricks...
Great explanation. I practiced with a piece of small rope. Its so much easier to see and understand the knot.
Thanks so much for this video. I first learned about loopknots from Richard Gene the Fishing Machine. Couldn't remember how to tie and went back to UA-cam and your vid popped up first. It was so quick and to the point and I am truly grateful. The presentation with this knot is incomparable for jigging. My success rate has gone up tremendously. Thanks again.
Glad we could help!
Thanks for showing that loop knot.
I use the canoeman knot cause it's so quick to tie. How do you think it matches up in strength? I have caught 28" reds on it but I also don't crank down too much on my drag, just enough for a good hook set
Thank you! I have seen many explanations for this knot, but yours is by far the easiest to follow! No wonder almost half a million people have watched the video!
Thanks for making time to leave the nice comment on this loop knot video. Some people call it the "Kreh Loop Knot" and others call it the Non-Slip Loop Knot"... no matter the name, it's a great knot to know. Fish On!
Thanks for the instruction. Looks very simple and easy!!
Southern Outdoors NC Thanks so much for leaving the nice comment. We're thrilled to see that you enjoyed this Kreh loop knot video, and we hope to hear from you again. Fish On!

NaveganteBOG Glad to see that you enjoyed this loop knot video. We hope you catch some huge fish while using it soon... Fish On!
How strong is this knot?
NaveganteBOG With 30 lb Ande flourocarbon, it normally broke in the 20 to 23 lb range... here's a link to see how it compared to other popular knots: www.saltstrong.com/articles/best-loop-knot-for-fluorocarbon-leader/.
My Grandfather always used a loop knot that I, sadly, never asked him how to tie before he passed. The way he did it, was to tie one hook in a loop knot, then a bit further down, tie a second hook on(using a loop knot of course), then at the bottom, he would tie his sinker, using a standard fisherman's knot. I believe the knot in this video is very similar to his, so thank you very much for the help!!
+Jacob Lyons We're glad to see that this loop knot video was helpful to you. Fish On!
I love this knot for live bait applications! it really helps the bait swim naturally. And it's plenty strong have caught 30# tuna with this knot.

my fav knot to use with lures it does feels like it offer more action than other knots
I just starting getting serious into fishing and ive tried all other videos with different fishing knots and so far yours is the best every other one broke first day and yours has lasted me a week and hopefully it lasts longer thanks for sharing your video
you should retie your knots after every few fish, or after every big fish.
Ive been for quite some time now and learned that the hard way.
And also be careful walking through back alleys.
Is it hard to tie to leader materials??
Very helpful and informative thank you!
Very helpful. Watched other videos and this one is so much better
If you’re not on Salt Strong I recommend you do. These guys are great! Educational and supply for the ultimate experience!

Thanks for making time to leave a comment on this Loop Knot video. Fish On!
I love your vids bro. That’s one of my favorite knots as well!
Great knot, especially useful with Clousers. I found it could be made stronger by starting with a double overhead knot instead of the single overhand. My testing was done done with 12# to 20# fluorocarbon. The knot using the single overhand always broke before the double overhand.
Bruce Platusich Hey Bruce, thanks so much for the great suggestion. I'm sure that the doubling at the very start will increase it's breaking strength... I look forward to test it out. Fish On!
The King Sling is a great loop knot for top waters crank baits etc. Great vid. Thanks
Yes, the king sling is a solid loop knot. The top reasons I like this one better is because I don't have to thread my lure through a loop (gets tough with lures) and the tag end points back towards the lure with this knot vs. up towards the rod with the King Sling making the KS knot more prone to snag floating debris in the water.
Awesome. Simple & clear instruction. Thank you.
You're welcome!
not fishing related, but I needed to secure my solar panels which I mounted to some windows with suction cups, because I don't trust them I figured fishing line might be the safest bet as a safety device, especially because I got some fond memories wrestling with some fish in my teens so I know that these thin strings are almost as tough as steel.
great knot, easy to learn with this instructional video
Thanks for sharing!
Awesome Video !!!!! You guys continue to produce world-class videos that are very detailed and easy to understand. Keep up the good work and I can't wait till 2018 to see more from you. !!!!!
