The Oscar Piastri DISASTER

- Anyone who has been on social media tonight will have seen that things have kicked off between Oscar Piastri and Alpine F1 Team, with hem being announced to be an F1 driver by the team before coming out to say he had no idea about it. So, what's going on?
- Спорт
Given how Alonso surprised Alpine with the announcement and that was timed to be right after the 31 July deadline, it could be a synchronised move to help Piastri leave.
Webber and Alonso are pals, not a far-fetched favour especially if Alonso is already unhappy with his team.
Maybe.
But then again, none of this was in the cards before Vettel anounced his retirement, so they would have to had gotten their ducks in a row really quickly...
Maybe Alonso somehow already knew Vettel was leaving. Alonso is a very smart, very observant person. I'm not sure if this conspiracy holds up but I'm pretty damn sure Alonso HAD to knew Piastri's contract deadline. Who knows...
Alonso definitely strung Alpine along, making them think the contract was a formality. Not sure if he knew the ins-and-outs of Piastri's test deal ending, but he may have timed his announcement for maximum chaos. Never underestimate Alonso doing anything just for spite. The guy's almost a sociopath, I think. Great driver, but sociopath.
@@fiarandompenaltygeneratorm5044 Maybe, but it might also just have been a coincidence. Alsonso only knew AM was an option once Vettel had retired, so it might just have taken a day too long to reach an agreement and sign a contract. After all, Alonso wasn't going to quit at Alpine without having signed somewhere else first.
What does Webber have to do with this? Is he managing Piastri?
i love ric and all, but im glad piastri will likely get such a good seat. ric could probably find refuge in alpine due to the open seat, which seems like a win win honestly.
Going back to renault would be pretty interesting
Alpine would not take him, even with the vacancy. There’s plenty of talent willing to fill that spot next to Ocon that would be far less expensive or messy. Ocon is old enough to be a senior driver for a while.
Probably the best thing for both parts
I doubt Renault wants him back after a kind of ugly break. Daniel needs to go to Indycar or NASCAR where he belongs. He’s just not good enough for F1 and a lot of people (myself included) are tired of his act.
@@benjamin3290 either that or he goes to mclarens formula e team
Indycar, NASCAR, and F1 all having a silly season. It’s crazy. And I’m here for it!🥳🍿😳💀
f e too
Motogp also
Ikr. The Palou and Ganassi fiasco, the Kyle Busch and Tyler Reddick situations were or are being wild rn. And with Vettel out, Alonso just blew the goddamn market willingly or not. It’s getting crazy and I love it!
McLaren have been a bit sus with signing so much drivers lately, even more than they have seats. But remember McLaren have 2 Formula E seats to fill for next season too, so maybe an Indycar driver and maybe Ricciardo move to FE and thus some spots open somewhere else for Palou and Piastri
If i were Ricciardo, i’d rather retire than go to FE.
@@Adrian-fo4kv yeah but you’re not him and I’m sure if you were a driver and given a seat you’d jump up and down yes
No way Daniel will go to Formula E, that isn't going to happen and they still have a contract issue, they can't just keep him and decide he doesn't drive for F1 but for FE now...
@@tylerhmiel6417 Not really. I would rather retire. No point in going from F1 to FE, and im sure he feels that way as well. Only reason i would downgrade to FE is for an extremely big paycheck.
Given how much Ricciardo loves the USA, I find it more plausible for him to go to Indycar rather than Formula E.
Last time a contract dispute like this in F1 came up, the team holding the "option" contract won and Button was forced to stay at BAR. His manager mistakenly thought there was a loophole in the July 31 deadline requirements and was ultimately proven wrong. Perhaps in this case, Team Piastri is mistaken in the requirements needed to hold him at Alpine. There are a team of contract lawyers always looking at things behind the scenes, and I find it hard to imagine they missed something so basic as a deadline given their need to hold onto the option for 2024 at a minimum.
If the contract wording is that Alpine "will have an F1 seat confirmed for 2023", and they can show an offer of intent from another team to place Piastri in a seat was given before the deadline, then he stays.
Didn’t Ric announce a bit ago he wasn’t leaving McLaren anytime soon and would be racing with them in 2023?
I thing Is not a Ricciardo decision, piastri Is more young and cheap, Is a Better choice for McLaren
Just like Checo reiterated time and time again that he had a contract with Racing Point/Aston Martin, and thus they couldn't possibly sign Vettel to replace Checo for 2021.
And then they did. Fickle business, contracts are.
If McLaren are willing to buy out his contract (at least $10 million, I would guess), they can move on from Ricciardo, but I just can't believe they'd be willing to do that for a driver who: a) isn't even their junior driver; and b) hasn't even driven in a grand prix. That's a lot of money to risk on Piastri. He looks to have talent, but I'm not sure I see a Verstappen-Leclerc mega talent there.
Idk why but it just come all fo sudden in my mind that Danny Ric gonna racing for McLaren Formula E next year, but yeah who knows right
@@charleskafka1584 it’s not a Ricardo issue, but Zac Brown also said that Ricardo will be racing with McLaren in 2023
The silly season we have been waiting for.
Feels like an elaborate masterplan by Seb, Mark and Nando. Seb get his retirement while Nando got his multi year contract, then Mark and his boy Piastri now have a big leverage for 2023 contract talks.
Just want to say how much I appreciate the emphasis on actual facts and information this video has during this mess compared to other channels that seem to come to the same conclusion at the end of a video twice as long and with only rampant speculation to back it up.
It might not be the algorithms favorite format, but you have earned one more loyal subscriber today :)
Piastri 100% knew before 1st August. His manager, Mark Webber is very close friends with Alonso, so there would've been some discussion there.
He definitely has the McLaren seat.
I agree with you. He secured his seat for 2023.
Still, I'll call this a backstabbing.
Hey I just want to say congratulations! You’re doing a great job with the content and I know how it feels to have projects on top of work you need to get done. Stay motivated and keep them coming :)
Mclaren just loves driver drama hahaha
That doesn’t seem right, they have no drama with Norris and Ricciardo has underdelivered for two years now, and McLaren has put a lot of faith and patience into Ricciardo…they aren’t obliged to give him more time.
@@mamavswild indycar situation? Have you just been ignorant to any other series? It's been one of the biggest issues in motor racing.
Why are we so certain that Piastri is going to McLaren? Let's not forget that his manager, Mark Webber, has strong ties with Red Bull and Porsche for that matter and Alpha Tauri might have an opening for Oscar to sit in until Perez moves out in a couple of years. I can't see why Piastri would burn the Alpine bridge if there wasn't a very big carrot dangling in front of him and McLaren, despite being the right colour, doesn't seem like a big enough carrot to me. Red Bull would also love to get their revenge on Alpine/Renault for taking Ricciardo from them and I also can't see Mark Webber doing over his mate Daniel.
This makes a lot of sense 👍
Makes sense to me too. Given that Gasly has just extended his contract, I wonder if Tsunoda is starting to worry?
What about how bad McLaren have been with Daniel this year? I mean to put him on the hard tyres in Hungary was exactly the same as Ferrari putting Leclerc on them for Ferrari but no one seems to be jumping up and down about that. Yes, Daniel is not driving as well as Lando but is he being given the chance to0? I really don't think so.
They also put lando on the hards but he still finished p7...
Yep, it was crazy. Daniel had just passed both Alpines slithering around, miles off the pace on the hards, so McLaren said "we want some of that!"
i’d laugh if Dani Ric went back to Alpine and wiped the floor with Mclaren and fat Zak.
Crazy situation. PR damage control incoming 😂
The fact McLaren has not posted a thing all day says it all
This video is better than what WTF1 uploaded today surrounding this drama. It explains this drama better. Keep up the good work.
you should add some music to the background while you talk, would make the blankness feel a bit less empty
Who said that Oscar already signed a deal to replace Ricciardo? DR himself said he's staying until his contract runs out next season
Alpine confirmed Piastri for their seat.
Contracts can be bought out.
@@sloppynyuszi Pisatri said hes not going to alpine
Yeah, also Zak Brown said Riccardo is staying for 2023.
Perez also had a contract for Aston Martin.
Ottmar, what are you doing man!!!!!
Question is it possible riccardo will go to William's latifi almost definitely will be getting the boot so I wonder if riccardo can get a seat there or has William's already got a driver in mind
Don't forget about Logan Sargeant. He gets his Super Licence as long as he gets a top-5 finish in F2 this year, and he's looking pretty solid with less than 1/3 of the season to go. But the HUGE bunchup in the midfield is making for a very dramatic end to the season.
@@JimTheFly ya maybe hopefully riccardo can get a seat for next year having 2 of my favourite drivers leave will be a heartbreak
Really enjoyed the short snippet video, was able to get all the news on my lunch break and not lose 10-15minutes for the same amount of info dragged out by a lot of other UA-camrs on the topic
KARMA! -Fernando Alonso
Feel for Danny Ric in this. Even at Alpine Ocon might still outshine him
People just pretending that there is an exit clause in Riccardo's contract (there isn't) to have to something to talk about. He even said he will be staying with the team till the END of his contract.
McLaren can buy him out.
If there isn't a clause then why in the world was Zac Brown talking about one.......?
@@barrychopsticks Go watch the interview and you'll hear him - get this - *Explicitly* talking about it. I'd post a nice link for you, but we all know how UA-cam works.
@@barrychopsticks It's pretty difficult to provide a UA-cam link when the interview isn't posted on UA-cam, only available via F1TV, wouldn't you agree?
Contracts are pieces of paper that agree money, not a drive...
As shown by the Alex Palou situation in IndyCar, even an announcement containing a quote isn't ironclad truth.
Either Oscar has signed with McLaren or he has sign prematurely with Williams to replace Goatifi... Ric is signed until the end of 2023 and is very confident he is staying. Looking forward to see what happens. With Alpines success this year and Daniel's style of driving, it could work out for him. I'm just worried about something internally isn't right at Alpine which is why drivers are leaving.
I think he went and signed with Williams while Alpine were messing about with Alonso. I just can't see McLaren spending tens of millions of dollars to buy out Ricciardo's contract only to replace him with someone as unproven (though talented) as Piastri.
=PIASTRI *_MAYBE_* HAD AN AGREEMENT WITH MCLAREN,IT'S TRUE....BUT IT WAS *BEFORE* SEB'S ANNOUNCEMENT...SO,NOW AFTER SOME BRIEF PRIVATE TALKS WITH BOTH SEB AND NANDO PIASTRI WILL CHANGE HIS MIND
=MCLAREN IS TOXIC BRAINLESS TEAM,AFTER ALL.....NORRIS GAVE THEM SOCHI2021,BUT THEY'RE BLIND
@windfall At the time he had no indication either Alonso or Ocon would move out. And with this I'm not saying he signed for Williams, we're all speculating. On pure sporting terms that's a bad move of course.
@windfall He didn't know Alpine was available because they were so focused on Alonso. Now, I bet he'd like to get out the contract...But who knows? I'm just not buying that McLaren would spend tens of millions to get rid of Ricciardo for a driver who has never driven in a grand prix.
@@fiarandompenaltygeneratorm5044
I think something at Alpine has him turned off. It's not worth the money for Mclaren to pay out Dani - Just a car with a stronger front end...
Also, another spanner in the works. Could Gasly have an option to bail out of his contract with Alpha and sign with Alpine and Piastri goes to Alpha? - His manager is Mark Webber.. Its a long shot but crazier has happened.
Why did Alpine put out a press release saying Piastri would be their driver next year, when he had no contract, and they didn't check with him first? That's very strange.
Because Piastri was an Alpine academy driver, they felt they had the right to announce him without consulting with him seeing that he was tied to them, but the reality is that the clause in piastri's contract stated that he would drive for alpine if they could secure him a seat until July 31st, which they didn't, so now he is a free agent and was looking for a seat. Basically Alpine overvalued itself, they were sure Alonso was staying for 2023 so they didnt bother to try and keep Piastri, now that Alonso is goning to AM, that plan backfired completely, and they lost Piastri as well
@@goncalosalgueiro7154 Assuming that's what the contract says...
@@goncalosalgueiro7154 "It’s believed that Piastri’s ability to walk away from Alpine is based on a claim that his 2023 deal with the team was never properly signed. The July 31 date - widely believed to be related to an option the team had on him - is understood to have no special relevance."
I was flabbergasted when I saw his statement ngl
Idk But Alpine seems best of the Rest at this point .
I don’t think it’s good idea to pick McLaren over Alpine .
It is if you're guaranteed a spot and not forced to sit on the sidelines another year
What weird contract did they give Piastri for Alpine to have the power to force him into a seat after the contract ended.
A bullshit non-existent one lmao
Christ I didn't know it was THAT bad

Dany Ric should try going part time in NASCAR for Trackhouse Racing in 2023. They have a Project 91 car specifically for international drivers like him.
If anything he would move onto GT racing, not NASCAR.
Missed all the news about this, perfect catch up!
It pains me to say, as he's the one who got me into F1 in the first place, but my guy Danny Ric is washed
He needs a Indy car or Formula e switch
Despite his laughs, jokes & smiles, he's clearly not happy where he is.
@walkwithme I don't think Ferrari would let them get rid of Mick, and Kevin is performing well
@@ihavenoideas5844 Mick was literally one crash away from being fired mid-season. Even now, he doesn't have a lot confidence from Ferrari or Haas.

LMAO it does! 🤣🤣
If McLaren gets into nascar they would be in everything auto. Need bike stuff too.
This was by far the most informative video I've seen on this situation, I understand it so much better now. Great job and thanks!
I like the idea of Piastri getting a drive in F1 but I hope he doesn't trip up like Danny as this car only suits a particular style of driving. I think Alpine have a better car than Mclaren. As to Daniel I hope he goes back to Alpine where we can see his real talent shine.
First Palou and now Piastri...
This is such an interesting situation. Who is going to replace Fernando at Alpine now? Alex Albon? Daniel Ricciardo? Alpine has truly failed this season with the driver market.
Imagine if Piastri turns into Ronaldo - wants to leave his team but nobody wants him.
Don't worry about the editing, I just want to understand what the hell was going on
Real meaning of ELplan.
I wouldn't sign up Ricciardo anymore no matter what team. Young drivers seem to adapt very well to new circumstances. Although someone like Alonso is still a good driver to have as long as he willing to teach the new young driver.
And I thought Palou vs Ganassi was crazy
3 minutes and the best video on the topic by far
Nothing has been announced officially in the piastri-McLaren area
Not officially, no.
Piastri would not risk losing this seat as a plan B if there were not a concrete arrangement in place with McLaren. He would have stayed quiet surely. I do think that McLaren is a tough team to join with Lando likely to blitz an incoming rookie. A rookie would have a better shot at getting close to Ocon in the Alpine. I wanna see Gasly paired with Ocon and the French team having two talented French drivers.
Could you updates us on Galsy? I heard he would probably join Alpine but that's just hearsay... I would be very sad to see Ric leave 😔
But I thought gasly and ocon hate each other
@@dallywang6143 I am not sure if they are getting along or not. However it would be interesting to know what is he gonna do next years and with Alpine empty seat now we can only speculate. Galsy is French just like Ocon so both of them driving for a French team isn't a farfetched thought :)
He signed with AlphaTauri for 2023
I also heard that Ocon and Gasly hate each other, like real personal animosity (not really racing related). That probably would be a terrible line-up, if so.

Now i cant even sleep to wait for another Alpine drama OMG
If piastri is a McLaren reserve driver this year, what makes alpine think they could just claim him first?
He was their junior driver and still had a contract with Alpine until the end of July.
I think Ric going to Alpine would be a good idea in the sense that he’ll at least have something secure for the next few seasons.
The only place Ricciardo should go is home.

hey , im not unhappy, i think lando piastri would be a good lineup, hopefully the car will be up to speed by then cause its not 'just ricciardo' it was painfully obvious in hungary that the mclaren of norris could do absolutely nothing to keep others back
Norris/Piastri would be one hell of a lineup, agreed.
McLaren struggled in Hungary, but i think that's partly track-specific. It's incredibly close between them and Alpine.
Plus, the gap between Norris and Ricciardo still presented itself. Norris finished 7th. Ricciardo was 15th...
@@curnath it is but also overal the car isnt where we all want it to be, but no fear i think it is a good platform and will steadily improve during this season, with some good star alignment ready to blast for real next season
@@curnath Ricciardo only finished that far back because mclaren fucked his strategy again, he was on for a top 10 finish ahead of both Vettel and stroll after his pit stop but put on hards in traffic. Even races before this he hasn’t been as bad as the long pit stops and bad strategies have made him out to be

Go back to when we had more Teams. Many more teams, you had to Qualify to get into the Race (do a specific time),24-26 Drivers on Race Day. So there, Problem solved and even I will get a Drive....😋
Here’s what i think will happen
Oscar -> McLaren
Dani Ric -> Retire
Gasly -> Alpine
Lawson/DARUVALA-> Alpha Tauri
Or
Oscar -> Williams
Goatifi -> Retire
Gasly -> Alpine
DARUVALA/Lawson -> Alpha Tauri
@windfall idk , I think most F1 fans are too harsh on DARUVALA, just the way they were with Zhou Guanyu Last year .
I am not saying anyone is Racist , but there is a trend of underrating Eastern /Asian /non-western (with exception of Japanese) drivers in F1 .
It’s mostly because of the long history of F1 in Europe , N-America , S-America and Japan .
It’s a subconscious Confirmation Bias in the Minds of many F1 fans .
Gasly already extended his contract with Alpha Tauri, he also hates Ocon, so he will not join Alpine as long as Ocon is there. Riccardo also said he's not leaving McLaren and Zak Brown confirmed Daniel will stay for 2023. Daruvala and Lawson are not F1 material just yet.
And stop playing the race card, it's really pathetic...🤦♂️
@windfall
He has a podium in almost Every round (usually the sprint races)
And is FOURTH in the F2 championship .
Was third till last round in Austria
All I hope is for ricciardo to get a seat even if mclaren sign ricciardo
I’m not sure who would take a chance on him, or who would want to pay his price tag.
Ricciardo has built a reputation for himself of chasing contracts due to surprise-leaving TWO top teams…you can argue he wasn’t given top driver status to a clear generational talent all you want; but running away from that fight instead of staying and showing he wasn’t afraid of it was Daniel’s first mistake. Drivers don’t get to be as disloyal as teams get to be, and Daniel did the running twice. The second time from Renault-Alpine was even worse because Alpine was building that car in good faith just for him for the 2021 season, and Ricciardo went off in search of a better paying contract and left Alpine in a shock, last minute wise, and this solidified his reputation.
If you couple this with a truly embarrassing run of form at McLaren to a 21-22 year old, not just this year but last year as well despite winning once at Monza, plus what looks to be a palpable drop on morale and brightness (Daniel seems different this year, almost as if his heart isn’t in it or he’s depressed), and you’ve got a driver that is high risk, low reward.
@@mamavswild Agree that his moves were poor. But he didn't leave Alpine for more money, he actually took a pay cut to go drive a car he believed would be quicker. I guess he didn't expect that he would be so far off Lando that he'd be in this tricky position now.

I’m over Dan he’s had his time, I can’t wait to see how good piastri is, he looks to be a great young talent
The butterfly effect created by Vettel's retirement is sublime
I heard Alpine failed to sign a contract by a specific deadline. Partly due to Alonso’s Aston Martin contract distracting them.
I believe Alonso's announcement came the day after Piastri's contract expired , and Alpine dropped the ball without his distraction. They're a professional F1 team ,they knew when that contract was due to expire , If they didnt , they are incompetent .
Silly season has got weird , real fast !
I love it !
Not that they failed to sign, but they failed to execute the option in his contract. Apparently it expired the day Alonso announced, Alpine just missed it.

How can an elite F1 team can make such a mistake as anouncing a driver without signing him first ? wtf
They still haven't taken the post down, and there have been reports elsewhere that have said that they believe they have a valid contract with Piastri. It may be Piastri's the one playing games, but Alpine look crazy after the last two days, so who knows? I agree, though, why would you announce it and leave up the post if you weren't 100% confident you had your man?
He won't be better than Ric
Australian vs Australian
You'd hope Piastri has a contract set in stone, because his statement "I will not be driving for Alpine in 2023" leaves no wiggle room. Can McLaren really sack Ricciardo? TBH the Alpines haven't looked too bad this year either.
Piastri to McLaren?????..........and your confirmed information comes from where mate?....
Hear me out:
Alpine fail in legal proceedings, so Piastri moves to McLaren
However, Alpine plump for Albon instead of Ricciardo, to have two young-ish drivers to develop
Ricciardo moves to Williams, similar to VB moving to Alfa to try to develop the team, and they also replace Goatifi with De Vries
I also think there’s a small chance of a Zhou/Schumacher spot, as Haas would prefer Zhou’s consistency, whereas Alfa with Bottas would look to harvest Mick’s pure potential
Just my thoughts on this, some bits likelier than others
Albon just extended with Williams.
I think it’s fair to say that Daniel’s struggles have also at least partially been down to McLaren giving him a car that is difficult to adapt to. It’s one thing making a car fast, but it should also be up to the team to make a car that BOTH drivers can get the maximum out of. I know that’s not the point of the video, but thought it should be mentioned
Look I like Ricciardo, but come on, it is definitely his fault he cannot adapt to it. I do think we ought to consider that maybe Lando has found another level and may even be the fastest driver out there right now. But still, the gap is massive, and they should ditch him.
It’s his second season and with the regulation change this year, the cars are pretty new to adapt for Lando as well. If DR still struggles, it’s him not the car. The point difference is massive! Lando is carrying this season for McLaren almost all by himself. They might as well lose to Alpine and come 5th.
@@cbailey3728 Lando is doing well in that car because he’s been used to the weird handling characteristics since his rookie season, and knows how to wring its neck. I bet if he moved teams he would struggle adapting to a more conventional car (at least for a bit).
That doesn’t absolve Daniel of his struggles, but McLaren clearly have gone down a path of design that clearly doesn’t work for Daniel, and everything they seem to try doesn’t seem to work.
DR is done in F1. Look at the way he exited the pits before torpedoing Stroll, comatose, no passion
Any chance red bull got him?
Because going to McLaren from Alpine is only a sidegrade
The only upgrade is going to be Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes
All of those seats are full but Red Bull can open up a seat at Alpha Tauri which is a better choice for Piasti as he have a path to a top racing team when Sergio Perez leave RB

@@dankcount Agreed….he’s saying in Alpha Tauri not the senior team, and this would free up Gasly…or even Yuki, who people seem to have forgotten, whom they very well may not be happy with performance-wise.
However, Red Bull’s young driver program is chock full, not sure why they would be looking outside of it….except, of course, that Piastri is hot property and a possible future champion, which would override all other thoughts I guess.

Piastri and Ricciardo should just swap their seats.
Ricciardo is going to leave McLaren just in time for them to have a good car 😂
I think some of them might regret their moves. Aston Martin has capital, but not a proper team. Just look how they completely missed the mark twice, first with their car, then with the copy. They are still on the low-end of the midpack. I think what made Alonso make the move was because he was not in control at Alpine. And as we know, he needs to take control to feel safe.
Ricciardo to Alpine might actually be good for him, since in McLaren he's struggling. The change of team might do wonders. If Alpine wants him back that is, there are plenty of talent in F2 to go for. For example, Alpine might put Theo Pourchaire in their second car if Sauber allows it or even some other Alpine academy driver. They don't exactly need an experienced driver now, since at this point Ocon has plenty of experience and showed he can win races if he has a car for it.
Piastri probably already has a contract with McLaren, since I don't see him being stupid to refuse to race for Alpine unless he has something solid in the pipeline. But McLaren is still far from fighting for wins, they were another team that failed on the car concept and are struggling to find pace, again, even with a copy concept. But they seem to be the strongest out of these three in terms of long term development.
But McLaren has this very interesting thing which is the connection to Mercedes. If Piastri performs better then Norris, who knows if he jumps in front of the pack to fill that delicious Mercedes seat when Hamilton retires?
Anyway, 2023 is going to be exciting with these moves.

You did a Hamilton
I get that Fernando is leaving Alpine but why coordinate with Weber to screw over Alpine? Do they just hate Alpine for not signing Piastri? Does Fernando have a grudge against Alpine? So confused why Fernando would play it this way.
I'm guessing it's the strategy failures like in Canada, reliability, not wanting a multiple year contract, Ocon being a cunt against him (probably being favoured too because he's French) and whatever the hell happened in Austria. He realized they were not a team with potential and fucked them over for the fun of it and avoid giving the young man the same treatment
Otmar and Laurent Rossi are dislikeable as hell
