Not a pleistocene verson of a Sabertooth. It was suited for its environment. Actually by the time humans Actually made it to North America the ice age megafauna were already in decline. Of course, pepple love a great smile nowadays. But perhaps it may survive in Africa where it can hunt young elephans and other large animals like giraffes, wilderbeasts, etc.
Smilodon is one animal that is better off gone. They were once the natural predator of humans. If they were brought back, they would quickly become extinct in the wild and only allowed to live in zoos.
They would not necessarily become extinct but would not be able to coexist in close proximity to heavily human populated areas, similar to polar bears.
When did Smilodon live in any place outside the Americas? You are possibly getting Smilodon mixed up with another, smaller sabre-tooth cat called Megantereon. Other than that, a fantastic vid & commentary.
@@markdebruyn1212 Technically Africa is Europe if we pretend continental boundries don't exist. And Canada shares a lot with France, France is in Europe, so by technicality, Hyenas can possibly live in Canada and Europe in some strange timeline we haven't discovered yet. Probably.
I don't think adaptability to climate or co-existing with other predators would be a problem, the main thing I think would be finding enough food. Adding another predator of this magnitude would throw off the whole ecological balance.
In the warmer, more rainforest areas, their common prey will be tapirs, capybaras, and wild boars. But their potential prey Can be Coatis, Primates, Etc.
This cat’s large brittle teeth and relatively weak bite force means that it likely jumped large animals from ambush and speared them through the neck. Since the cat proliferated for 2 million years, it was obviously an effective killing machine. But it’s hunting technique may have been too adapted to particular prey and the need for an environment that provided the concealment necessary for an ambush (like how modern tigers hunt). When the large herbivores went extinct, this cat lost its food source and may have been a little too stupid to adapt. Other than trying to live where modern tigers live (and risk fighting a tiger over territory), I don’t think this cat could find an adequate food source unless it preyed on cattle or people and, if it did that, people would quickly make it extinct again.

First of all tigers aren’t that much bigger than lions than they are put in different categories. In fact lions often dominate tigers when put together. Smilodons are bigger than both lions and tigers: even if they were in Africa or India, lions and tigers wouldn’t cause a problem to them:
That's not true. I like lions but don't spread biased false facts. Tigers tend to dominate lions. Just look how Asiatic lions are put under pressure whenever a tiger shows up
@@ashlirabid9614 they were never pressured by tigers my guy,if they were they would have never spread across the asian continent after the end of the pleistocene
Not necessarily. Humans hunted them to extinction, but humans back then were WAY more hardy and durable than those today. Plus if you take into account where they'd like, places like the Arfican wildlands or arctic, humans don't tend to dwell there due to the presence of stronger predators like lions, leopards, Hyenas, or polar bears, walruses and the like. So they'd have a chance.

Saber toothed tigers could survive if they had a good stable source of food. And if humsns weren't there to hunt them into a second extinction.

Smilodon today would not survive mankind with weapons of today and the technology you're right it would become extinct again.
Stop talking sh.t, they were predators specialising in very large prey like bison.

I really wonder how did Smilodon hunt with an oversized teeth? how could they open their jaws to crush a prey's neck or spinal cord ?! 🤔
I was wondering the same. They must have some kind of adaptation to allow greater jaw range of motion. 🤷♂️

The clouded leopard isn't actually a sabertooth cat. They are so called due to the fact that they have proportionally the largest canines of any cat.

Answer: Obviously not, because he couldn't even survive those days 😉. If he could he'd still be here!
That's not actually logical at all. There could be a distinct reason why it went extinct. That may not be a factor today. Such as weather.
They would live perfectly with his cousins the other cats and even form coalition with jaguar, cougar, lynx etc......
Wouldn't make it if that's as far as their mouth worked.... Tooth barely exposed.
