Americans really seem to misunderstand how the constitution works. It's not 'symbolic' or 'ceremonial', Starmer was not Prime Minister until the King made him so. All the election did was ensure that his party has a majority in Parliament and thus can command the confidence of the House. You might as well say the president's swearing-in is just 'symbolic'.

Point taken but the trouble is if you don't add a word like that some people assume Charles exercises some personal choice over who to appoint, like he was interviewing Starmer for a job and decided to go with him, rather than it being a foregone conclusion who the PM would be because of the election result. I have come across people who are aware the UK is a monarchy and seem somehow surprised there are also elections, or are confused about whether the monarch personally governs as an executive head of state.

To be clear, Israel is a significant trading partner, and the relatively small element of military exports we send are paid for. How else are we helping them?
We have sent about £12.5 billion to Ukraine, in military equipment and direct economic assistance. We do it in the belief that Russia's invasion of Ukraine was an unprovoked act of aggression, and if the Ukranians are prepared to fight to defend their country then there should be international support for them to do so. If Russia is allowed to suceed, then the risk to other European countries, and of a much wider conflict, increases. The cost of the last major conflict in Europe was incalculably high. That's why we send aid to Ukraine.
There are have been a ton of avoidable mistakes that have brought about the current problems in the British economy. Supporting Ukraine isn't one of them, and not supporting Ukraine could lead somewhere far worse.

That is how our voting system works, and in every system there are losers. Labour has a large majority, but to say voters have no voice, just because the manifesto they voted for is not going to be implemented, is obviously untrue. A proportional voting system might be fairer, but when we had a referendum on it in the early 2010s, how did you vote? Did you vote? Certainly it's amusing to see how vocally Reform voters are now advocating for electoral reform, who were previously opposed to it. Now we'll have to see how effective the newly elected Reform MPs are as parliamentarians. When Farage was an MEP, he hardly did anything except take the salary.

The leaders who showed the least concern for the people of Gaza were Hamas, who authorized the attacks on Israel on 7th October. Attacks so provocative they were bound to provoke a response. The military personnel of Hamas attacked Israeli civilians, and use their own civilians as humans shields. Which is okay because the policy of Hamas is Jihad, and any Muslim who dies in the Jihad goes straight to heaven. Their objective is the annihilation of Israel and the Isreali people, at all and any costs. They are not interested in a negotiated settlement. That could have happened a long time ago, but for Hamas. The price of continued conflict is paid by the people of Gaza.
Keir Starmer acknowledges the right of Israel to exist, and to defend itself against acts of aggression. In opposition he has called on the Israelis to show restraint in their response, he has called for a ceasefire. He has very little influence however, on a government he probably regards with disdain. But he won't have any influence with them if he doesn't show understanding for how traumatic 7th October was for Israel.
The situation in Gaza is awful, but people in the west are being manipulated by Hamas, who understand that we will feel more concern for their children than they do. So criticise Keir Starmer by all means, but what do you have to say about Hamas, the leaders who actually brought this situation into being, by murdering innocent thousands of innocent Israeli civilians? Don't they bear a greater responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of the people of Gaza? Or is Jihad the most important thing?
