That's like saying there's no difference between a Soprano and a Castrati. I just got one and it is a Huge difference, like being a beginner all over again. Jeremy makes it look very easy. It's not. The accuracy of your bow arm, fingers confusing strings. You could make the same remark about an Organ and a Piano and be just as Dead Wrong!
@@jackwilloughby239 organ and piano are completely different . Violin and viola are very simaliar like guitar and baritone guitar. Like my 5 string and 4 string basses .
The wonderful thing of having a fifth string ( for bass anyway ,sure its the similar with viola ) is across the fingerboard with only one position shift at the end I have a 2 octave range . It took less then a day to get used to a five string for me.
Amazing.
Well done. Bravo.

Paganini calls this instrument a "Grand Viola" which is a Standard Viola with a High E added to it (same as a Violin).
Very versatile.
The oldest 5-string viola having that tuning that I'm aware of was made in 1725. It was called a viola pomposa.
Why, again, has the five-string violin/viola not supplanted the standard four-string violins and violas?
What a fantastic tone!
Thank You!
Glasser makes them in Carbon Composite.
where can i order one ?? i went to their site everything is written in chinese
You can get them in Carbon Composite from Glasser Bows because they're more durable.
Gliga makes them
Put a Low F on it and you have a Chincello and sounds really nice. Too bad it's so hard to find low F strings for violas these days.
Any luck finding one?
Guess you'd need a cello bow?
Should be no big deal both instruments are 75 % of the other
