    That huge plane reminds of the plane one of my father's Navy friends had when i was young. He took the wing off and strapped the wing and fuselage to the roof of his car. He didn't have a fancy electric starter and had to resort to a lawnmower type pull cord. The nice thing about a large model like that is that nobody is injured or killed if it crashes, unless you are unlucke enough to have it hit you. LOL

      Yeah, I had to measure my hatchback car carefully before I bought the plane, the fuselage just barely fits in with the front passenger seat moved forward. Yer, the person most likely to be injured if something went wrong, is Pete doing the filming, so that's okay 😛 Have you ever had to jump out of the way Pete, while filming?

      Cheers Tom. It's a film covered ARTF and the airframe is very light. I put 2 sub C packs in to get the CG right with the heavy engine, and I reckon the extra weight is actually a benefit, unless you're happy to fly in only very light winds. Even with the extra weight the stall speed is still very low.

      Well you certainly got all that right. It's lovely to watch. I've had a twenty plus years break from RC modelling and am just getting back into it. I'm afraid age and lack of practice have done me no favours LOL. Beginning again really.@@MarkHewett-bx1cb

      @@tomphillips1746 Yer, much the same here Tom. I got back into it about 7 years ago after about a twenty year break. I found starting again with an electric launched glider helped get my thumbs moving properly again, before moving onto a Super Chipmunk which I certainly found a bit of a handful at first! I only wrecked a couple of models on the way. I guess an instructor with a buddy box might have been a good alternative.

      Great minds think alike. I've got a Kyoshu Calmato for quick and easy fun but have just bought an electric glider for the same reasons as you. I'm focusing on that for the moment. I also just bought a SIG clipped wing cub which I'm going to build in winter.

    What a beauty! What engine are they using? Does the cowl fit with that engine?

    Lovely. Who doesn't love a Cub? I have the same engine in a 1/4 scale Spacewalker except mine is still glow. It's not hard to feed though ... it runs well without nitro so I can mix my own fuel.

    • @MarkHewett-bx1cb
      @MarkHewett-bx1cb 8 місяців тому

      Nice. I would like a Spacewalker with a flat twin. Next up for me is a scruffy second hand 1/4 scale Flybaby. It's got a nice dummy engine and will get a 120 four stroke single.

      @@MarkHewett-bx1cb A Fly Baby is every bit as good as a Spacewalker. If I were you I'd be quite happy with that.

      I'll have to be Rob, I've used all my storage space and spent all the modelling budget. Mind you, I said that before I bought the last 2 planes 😄

      Yer, agreed Bob. I love to see top class flying of fantastic models at shows, but I also like to see what can be done with affordable models that I can fly at my local club 👍

    Great, i love it but i wonder if conversion is worth it, those kit are a bit expensive, thank you for your input.

    • @MarkHewett-bx1cb
      @MarkHewett-bx1cb 8 місяців тому +2

      I agree Daniel. The full petrol conversion kit new costs £270 from Morris Mini Motors, that would buy a lot of glow fuel, and the engine would have about 20% more power running glow. This was only worth it to me because it was very cheap second hand.

      Does the cowl fit over the engine without much fuss?

    Almost sounds like one. More muffler, and shes there.

    • @MarkHewett-bx1cb
      @MarkHewett-bx1cb 8 місяців тому +1

      Yer, agreed Lance. The 160FT has a pleasant sound, but with no silencing there is a bit of raspiness at higher rpm 👍

    • @lancegrey1225
      @lancegrey1225 8 місяців тому

      @@MarkHewett-bx1cb yes. What I was thinking about it. Is, like according to size & distance, a little more muffling , would make HER sound just like a real one even close up.

    • @MarkHewett-bx1cb
      @MarkHewett-bx1cb 8 місяців тому +1

      @@lancegrey1225 Yes I think it would. Some guys hang standard silencers outside the cowl on a flat twin in a Cub and I think it does sound better, but looks a bit naff. I could maybe plumb in a dustbin silencer inside the cowl if there's room, I did that for another model but if anything it was TOO quiet, but without the baffling it had that might be good. Maybe - one day.... Another issue for sound is the amount of firing pulses per minute. The full size Cub has four cylinders turning at say 2400 rpm, so a model twin needs to turn at 4800 rpm and that won't work for this engine. If I were rich I'd fit an OS 240 Super Gemini, over prop it a bit, and cruise around on 1/4 power - I reckon that would sound good.

      @@MarkHewett-bx1cb Well thought out on all of that information.
      You said all of that right. Plus the DETAILS! Ha ha. Thank you Mark.
      Better to leave it as you have it set up. That way you can hear it and use the sound for power changes during flight.
      Take care of her, and yourself.
