Within the timeline of radio, many people contributed theory and inventions in what became radio. Thx to everyone for the support! : ) I am working hard behind the scenes searching for more vintage high quality material to post! I have recently monetized this channel with "fan funding" which will help in my efforts to add more pre-50's entertainment and content on a regular basis!

All these years later I'm still fascinated that humans can transmit their voice through the air. Not long ago such a thing would have been magic and witchcraft.

My grandmother told me about how much her grandmother enjoyed listening to radio. They were living in Idaho then, literally in the Lost River Valley. It was well named. Still, radio reached there, and the very old woman kept turning on the radio before the nearest station would be broadcasting just to check. Now this was a woman who remembered the Civil War, when she took the family horses up into the hills so the Yankees wouldn't steal them.
DAVID SARNOFF: Sarnoff's most important radio job when the Titanic sank was helping Marconi keep his mistresses straight. It's very doubtful that he actually picked up the SOS from the sinking ship.

Reginald Fessenden was the first to broadcast voice and music in the year before Deforest, who falsely tried to claim he was the first.

For our US friends CFCF Montreal first broadcast May 20th 1920. And yes broadcasting is still an amazing achievement.

Great thanks for the upload, TTM. It is difficult to imagine a greater human invention...including, for example, industrial mass production, or antibiotics, or outer space navigation, that compares in true human civilization impact. Control of "radio" is much like control of fire. It made and continues to make us all very different animals. Like all tools, it is neither bad nor good. Let's all hope the cooperative side of human nature slowly wins over our ancient predatory side...yes?

Radio listeners et al, would hope that 'Payola' was a distant memory in the history of Radio Station Broadcasting? It appears now, however that the music format radio stations of today, STILL play the same songs over, and over and OVER again! Why is that?! Is it the "fashionable" way to drive their listeners stark-raving-mad?! ESPECIALLY if it's a song that you don't like? There are literally thousands of songs out there in the music world, of each genre classification. Ergo, there is no logical reason why a particular song needs to be played more than say, three times a year {quarterly}. I personally 'gave up' on listening to the radio in my car. I now subscribe to Sirius Radio, but even then find that some songs are repeated a little too much for my liking. At least I don't have to listen to annoying radio commercials, ESPECIALLY by Insurance Companies!
