**SHOUTOUT TO SNOOZINGNEWT FOR HELPING WITH THE OBJECT CATEGORIZATION!** Alright, an update for everyone. cloverpepsi's been revived, as our extensive health insurance allows for one revival per team member. However, losered's started convulsing in the holding cell we've put her in to keep her from poisoning anyone else. I think someone might've slipped her cyanide... what should I do next?
Hey, this was a great episode of EWOW, like usual, but I just wanted to post a concern some of my friends have with the upcoming life decay system that's happening in EWOW 10. We agree that something should be done to level the competition a little, but I and several of my friends are concerned that the current plan for the life decay system will hurt 2-4 livers more than it balances those with large amounts of lives. For example, by EWOW 12, the average 4 lifer would already be down to their last life and fighting to survive with the current plan. It's similar to the idea of if you took $100 from someone who has $1,000 vs someone who only has $200; the poorer person loses a large percentage more of their money than the richer person does, and thus they're impacted a lot more immediately. It would be nicer if life decay went down to something more like 2-3 lives, giving people room to breathe at the bottom while still preventing an uneventful endgame. I don't know if this was part of the consideration the team behind EWOW discussed or not though, so I would understand if for some reason this was a worse outcome and was avoided, but currently I can't see why a slightly better buffer to the life decay system would be worse for the competition. Regardless, I'm glad actions are being taken to make EWOW stay exciting, fair, and fun for everyone involved. Thank you everyone involved with making EWOW possible, and especially thank you to Cary for making this second season! I can't wait to keep competing against my fellow books.
Hello there! I'm currently at work and on mobile so I can't link to it, but I explained more of the motivations and circumstances that led to this situation in a reply to PizzaEnjoyer's comment.
@@somenerd Thank you for letting me know! I scrolled down a little and saw PizzaEnjoyer’s comment, and reading what you said, you made some great points, and ultimately the team’s decision is what should be implemented as they’ve got the tools and foresight to determine how things will look in the long run. If the goal is to bring everyone down to one life using one unchanging system of life decay, then I can’t really imagine a system that would work better than this one without major consequences. The previous suggestion of capping the decay at 3 lives would likely lead to the need to change/add another system of lowering the life cap down to one in the future, which would be tedious at best. And of course, simply removing the current extra lives of only the better performing people can be seen as unfair since they did earn them fairly. I just wish the disparity in lives didn’t become so… extreme. And not everyone is going to be happy, no matter what decision is made on the life system. Thank you for addressing our concerns, though; it shows that you and the rest of the EWOW development team cares about the community’s input. I hope you have a good rest of your day.
@@KrystalBirdie277 Indeed... in a perfect world, we'd have had the cap at three lives from the get-go and these problems would be absent, but alas. At the end of the day, I sincerely thank you for sharing your thoughts!
I personally think that the life decay should be set up until 3 lives, the inital set amount of lives at the start. I think people below 4 lives should be unaffected by life decay, but the decay stays 1 life per round to everyone with more than 3 lives, until everyone is at 3 or less. In doing this, we keep the advantage the high lifers earnt, but still kept it fairer to the people with less lives. I also have a point about how this system reverts ewow closer to twow, by completely removing a twist that set apart ewow, that being lives. This is why I feel as though 3 lives is a good medium for the life decay to end at.
Hello Teadster! While the staff has considered a solution like this, I've addressed my feelings on proposals like these in my response to PizzaEnjoyer's comment.
@@somenerd I still feel that having a life cap of 1 goes against Cary's original motivation of including lives. although I guess we should be more used to making good responses at this point
I 100% agree that something needs to be done about how unbalanced the lives system is and I 100% disagree with the solution that is going to be implemented. My biggest problem is the eventual complete removal of the lives system; I firmly believe that this is incredibly stupid. The lives system is a fundamental part of EWOW so to completely forgo this core game element serves to make the ‘first phase’ of the game basically irrelevant. It causes EWOW to lose a large part of its identity to just go back to a TWOW like system. I think the correct thing to do here is simple, make it so people go down to 3 lives instead of one and kept the prize/safe/loss ratio the same. This, if done right, should also prevent to problem where your response basically doesn’t matter for a round. I think that a lot of my problems with life decay come from the fact I think this system should effect as few people as possible to not disrupt the game or turn it into an entirely new game. I guess I shouldn’t complain without offer a solution so here is what I (very quickly) thought of, lowering the life cap. In every A episode from EWOW 10 on, the life cap is lowered until it gets down to three. If someone loses a life because of the lowered life cap, they get a DPR for the next prompt (this includes after the life cap is done lowering and someone on 3 lives prizes). If someone already has a DPR and prizes then they bank the DPR for the next time they don’t have one. This system has flaws but I think it does a good job temporarily rewarding people losing lives due to the life cap without outright punishing people on lower life counts. It should also have very little impact, I imagine it will only effect around 50-100 people given there only 300 people above 3 lives right now. I didn’t mean to write an essay but I guess I had a lot more to say than I thought. Sorry if it was kinda incoherent or if my ‘solution’ doesn’t make sense the second someone with actual critical thinking-skills looks at it I’m very tired. I hope this doesn’t come off rude or anything I think the EWOW team has been doing great I just don’t like this specific decision. Happy EWOWing and thank you for reading my ted talk.
Hey there! I want to make sure I give a measured response to your frustrations, so I'll try to address this point by point. I'm sure you and I would agree that the lives system is broken as it stands. We inherited an extremely unbalanced conundrum when this project was given to us, so over the course of the past few months, we've been having a lot of contentious discussions about what to do about the tail-endedness of the life count distribution. If I was in charge of designing the game with three lives as a prior, the life cap would've been three from the very start, with no potential for contestants to hoard additional second chances. This would have been the ideal, but alas, we currently find ourselves in a situation where there *are* contestants with absurd amounts of lives. The simplest solution would indeed be to cut everyone down to size again and set the maximum at three again, but this sort of action affects the contestant base in a lopsided fashion. I do not think it is fair to take these away from the 300 contestants that make up 4+ life population exclusively. Cary set these initial conditions and these contestants rightfully earned these lives, as odious as they may be for game balance. It would be patently unfair to rescind this gameplay advantage from these contestants alone, with no respect to current life count. Thus, I find that the more linear the system is, the fairer it is across the board. Yes, this means that contestants with two or three lifers will have less rounds of safety, but this is already true of the current system-their odds of winning are already so miniscule to the point of absurdity. Your proposed solution in your final paragraph could smooth that out over next few episodes, but again, I do not think it is fair to affect contestants in this asymmetrical manner, even if they make up a minority of the population. Furthermore, if the life cap shrunk and took down the healthiest contestants with it, that essentially validates X-3 rounds of performances not mattering at all for the healthiest contestants with X lives, which I see as harmful to game health. Life decay, as written, makes additional lives count for some extra rounds, and then levels the playing field completely. At the end of the life decay phase, our average case simulation puts the amount of remaining contestants at around or lower than ~100. Perhaps we simply disagree, but I think this is a reasonable stage of the game to expect good performance from contestants in order to survive, without a safety net. As for the implementation of this meaning that we will reverting to a more TWOW-like system, yes, that's the case. Many of us see this as a necessary evil for the health of the game. The fact that lopsided life count distributions can exist going into the endgame, even with a maximum of three, was a serious motivator for deciding to implement this change. In a hypothetical endgame of five contestants with a life distribution of something like 3/1/1/1/1, the rounds leading to the finale are extremely anticlimactic and anticompetitive. There will always need to be a point where lives are phased out for the fairness of competition, be it the finale, the final ten, the final one hundred, or some prior point. Rather than having two half measures where we implement these changes in separate steps, the majority of the team agreed to do this in a transitional fashion. Life decay is designed to bring EWOW through the midgame and to the endgame. Additionally, this discussion was always paired with the reduction to a 33% life loss zone. 49% is a brutal bar for anyone to clear, be it with one life, two lives, three lives. etc. As has been reiterated in many versions of this discussion on the TWOW Central Discord, life decay is a *massive boon* unto the people with the fewest amounts of lives-yes, they will be put into a do-or-die situation wherein they must place within the top 67%, but this is not that different than the current system for their odds, while their healthier opponents will be cut down to size if they manage to survive. (Under life decay and assuming randomly distributed performance, a two-lifer has a (0.67)^7 ~= 6% chance of surviving eight consecutive rounds, the maximum, when completely ignoring DRPs, whereas under the current system or any other proposed modifications, a two-lifer has a [combinatoric expression I am not going to write out in full] ~= 9% chance of surviving seven rounds. The apparent punishing nature of the system for people with lower than four lives disappears when you calculate the implications for long-term play, even if the short-term danger is higher. Furthermore, considering that the underlying assumption of random performance is clearly an inaccurate one given that Purplegaze and 4DJumpman256 should have had almost zero probability of having nine lives in this round when plugging in the numbers to a cumulative binomial distribution function, these figures are too generous to start with, the one for the current system moreso than the other.) At the end of the day, these are my personal opinions, and while they are shared with other team members, we are not a monolith. For example, Purplegaze does not agree with this system, so I want to have it stated on public record that there is no "corrupt bargain" going on behind the scenes. He did not push for a system that would "benefit" him in the short term, as we've demonstrated that his overall chances of winning the season go down when life decay is implemented. Thank you for sharing your concerns, and I apologize if you do not agree with the decision.
I appreciate you taking the time to read and reply to my comment when you really didn’t have to and I think you made a lot of good points. Your comment doesn’t really seem to be pushing for a dialogue or anything but I have opinions and an essay I’m really trying to procrastinate so your getting a response. My biggest problem with your comment is the take that “only taking lives from people on higher life counts is unfair so we need to completely remove all of their lives and their entire advantage instead of just some of it.” wha-huh? Like I understand the nuance of your statement and I agree with some of what you said but I just fundamentally disagree with your point. Dropping people on high life count to 3 lives instead of 1 life allows people on high life counts to kept some of the advantage they’ve been promised, not screw people on lower life counts out of there lives, generally fix the life count problem, and not fundamentally change the rules of EWOW. I think we can both agree that there’s far from a prefect solution to this problem but I believe this to be far better than what has been implemented. I completely agree that the life count needs to go down to one eventually but you’re right that we simply disagree on when. I think final 10 would be the appropriate time for it to become do or die because that’s late enough for most of the game to feel distinctly EWOW without having the final stretch become uninteresting. I know you said the team disagreed to having to two measures of life decay but, in my opinion, that feels like it’s definitely the correct decision here. I don’t know why I wrote so much about this I’m not making it to final 10. The 5/61/33 split is fine I guess I haven’t really thought about it. If nothing else I appreciate it slowing down the game so we’ll get more content in the long run. I think all of your criticisms on lowering the life cap are very valid and well I still think it would be slightly better I understand why the team would disagree. I still stand by all of the changes I proposed specifically pertaining to only having decay go down to three lives and giving out DPRs to people losing lives because of decay. It kinda sucks to just have to agree to disagree with the people making the decisions but I also understand why you all are in power and that you’ve been put in a no win situation where everyone thinks you need to do something but there will be a lot of disagreements on what exactly you need to do. I’m not trying to come off as entitled or rude and again, I really appreciate the work you all do.
@@PizzaEnjoyer-t9c Yeah, the most salient point here is definitely the sort of no-win situation we find ourselves in-to put it more directly, many people who are above three lives would be very upset with us if we dropped them back down to three. The cohort of the team that shares my viewpoint quarrels with the life system itself. We see the problems of EWOW's balance as symptomatic of the life system and I wholeheartedly believe that even if three lives were the maximum at this point in the game, we would still see similar problems with endgame balancing. (Imagine a field of 10 people with three lives, 50 with two lives, and 100 with one life, for example. Setting these boundaries for changing phases is honestly rather arbitrary so rather than making two of these decisions, we decided to make one.) As for additional reasoning why I disagree with the multi-step solution, some of that is honestly a logistical problem-derivation of authority on the team is nebulous at best. This discussion took around 120 man hours before it came to a consensus, by my best estimation. Relitigating this issue is a bit tiresome for all parties involved and our proposals have already gone through modification during dialogue with TWOW Central members. If you're not already there, I encourage you to join to be part of similar discussions regarding the state of the game in the future. Thank you for sharing your thoughts once again. Unfortunately, I knew this decision wasn't going to go over well with everyone, and if there was a solution that would make everyone happy, we'd surely both have come to that conclusion by now. Alas, such is the way of things for this project.
Maybe if there was a condition so that if you placed in the top 0.5% or some really elusive value, you would not lose a life through decay that round. This might make it more exciting and make the decay not feel quite as inevitable? Just a thought.
Yo, I'm maimai in the game and I sadly lost my last life. I guess people didnt understand the maimai references which led me to my elimination. 2044th Place. Gl to everyone whos in the game! (go play maimai or Astro DX tho ;) )
Welp this is the end of me I finished in 1907th place on EWOW. Honestly the competition was so tough. But considering so many people join season 2. I would say impressed with myself. Update: Final is 2149th placement.
I think me and Minty (EWOW 7B’s 10th most efficient contestant) would be great EWOW buddies! We both have been very efficient around 50% lately, with both of us having 4 lives and having “Maniac” in our subtitles! And craziest of all… we placed back to back this round! (945th & 946th!) Honestly so many similarities we could potentially be long lost book siblings of the same book series!

As one of the 4 remaining EWOW contestants whose name starts with 8, it’s my duty to give everyone a status report yet again: [14:38] 2 of us lost a life, 1 of us stayed neutral, and for the first time since the first EWOW round, 1 of us gained a life, that being yours truly, 8-Bit Book! I AM OVERJOYED!!! Our life count is now down to 3 out of a possible 130. You know what’s NOT joyous? 2 8’ers losing their last life this round, those being 8 and 8-ball. We’re going to miss you both. And with that, only 2 of us 8’ers remain: me and 8th. If they’re reading this, I wish them the best of luck. Our highest placement was 100th, and our average placement is 1126th.
The prompt condition is downright unfair. With I, O, and L being restricted, there aren't really any synonyms for words that can be used in a sequence coherently. Amd with banning 1 and 0, they've so banned a loophole... ...but not _every_ loophole. Regardless, I'm determined to go out fighting, even if it costs me my life. I'm going out determined to if not survive, place above several digital competitors that exist only to be sacrificed. Considering how I did... Top 2,000 is a privilege I got to claim. Wouldn't you call that a passing grade? E: Holy fuckaroni, I ranked above a Season 1 runner-up. Wow. How cool.
dude....... that next prompt is DIFFICULT. those are some REALLY valuable vowels that we cant use no more. VERY curious to see what people come up with
yep... i managed to fabricate a decent response without using them, i had to go over replacements for words like 10 times, but its nothing im proud of, if not for the letter restrictions its a very generic response. and i definitely dont have the time or wisdom to be able to implement something clever without using one of those letters. no time to think about alliteration, rhymes, abbreviations, puns, etc. ill probably live but my response is really nothing special.
Everyone please give a huge round of applause to our new video editors on the EWOW team - those being Dark, AeroAstroid, and myself all in a trench coat. Congratulations! oh and Brady and Lpcarver are also there too I think
We have already voted to have Dark be the sole editor for all future EWOW episodes operating under the names of other team members solely because we don't want to do the work but still get the credit for it. Shoutouts to Dark for being so selfless to undertake such a task for the remaining 44 episodes of the competition!
I’m sad I got eliminated here, but at least I did well. To the 4 people left in my original confessional grid, you got this! Cmoss, Cocoa, COCOATWIX, and Coda Kaze, one of you 4 are going to win for sure!
Looks like the comet's finally been shot down... should've stuck with that rock paper scissors pun. Seven rounds survived isn't exactly what I would call great, but when looking into the big picture, winning against nearly 90% of the competition in sheer poetry rises aspiration in the future that I chased for that never was... I honestly had a good answer to this prompt too, just had to make it past this one hurdle, and... nope. Good luck to the rest of the competitors in EWOW 8 and beyond! The stardust of the comet radiates a blessing to you all!
please do a tpot rejoin vote but make it like a twist so its whoever gets the least votes rejoins so unpopular contestants like naily, foldy ect get a chance
yeah, agreed... unless I'm misunderstanding, as someone going into the next round with two lives, I kind of feel as though my extra life doesn't matter as if I lose a life, I'll be out due to life decay.
13:27 Here I am… What?! I thought I was losing a life after the reveal that “As a(n)…” responses didn’t do well! How did I suddenly get so close to the prize zone (167th) with such a response?! Well, I’ll definitely take that!
well it wasnt really a guarantee that you would lose a life, those responses were really common and it makes sense that a lot of the low performers would use it, but its definitely still possible to use it and make a good response. I, however, did actually lose a life... im so disappointed i literally went from one of my best performances last round to losing my first life. i used to be really consistent and really mid but now i lost a life. ill never get over this. edit: i would like that add that it wasnt super far underneath 50%, so itd make sense that theres a fair share of high placing responses within them. something that would be expected to lose a life is something like the bfdi related responses that placed really low, averaging more around 20-30%
I kinda feel mixed about the decay thing rn, but I’m sure its effect will make this show shorter and more fair! And yeesh, that 8th prompt, I’m so thankful I got eliminated at 6B cuz that’s TOUGH
Whoever chose PlatinumQuest music for this is just really cultured. I hope you win EWOW. I thought I was gonna be punished for choosing compass, but I guess it wasn't a problem??? I'm a bit mad someone with the exact same idea gained a life, but I'll take it.
Life decay is a necessary evil I suppose. I feel like it should come a bit earlier though, and people with more lives should experience life decay faster. For example, people with 10-7 lives lose 2 lives from life decay.
If there will be a third season, i think we should leave the lacement prize but reduce max hearts to 5. Now imagine if 4DJumpman or Purplegaze are AI. And sadly i lost my lives 3 times in a row and i never got into top 5%. Good luck to everyone else. Final placement:1865th

Not sure how i feel about this rule change, i like that theyre trying to close the gap but tbh this life decay thing seems to be more punishing to lower lifers, especially those ar 2 lives like me. I dont want to be forced to lose half my lives next round and spend the rest of the game hanging on a thread while those other like 8 people can chill will their stock for several episodes
IMO it would make way more sense if decay never made you go under three lives (the default). That way it's only having an effect on extra lives and being forced to have three lives from four is not really that bad.
@@shiny_crystal to be fair, only JUST losing your first life now is a good spot IMO, I lost one right out the gate in EWOW 1, and my 2nd in EWOW 5, it's not over til it's over! You just gotta find what works and what doesn't
@@pjgamer780 i mean yeah that is true it just really hurts bc i was literally the most consistently mid contestant, as in i was both on efficiency champion leaderboard and consistently leaderboard, i even got a shoutout in ewow 6, and now thats all gone, ive lost a life, i can never earn that title back. its not the best title but idk it felt like something and even if i do somehow gain a life and go back to 3 the consistency and efficiency is still gone. and worst of all that couldve easily been prevented looking back at my response it really was bad i couldve done more, like what i shouldve done was research sown objects, list their properties and things they do, and see how i could apply that to politics. instead i relied on a rhyme and a stupid joke about biden, honestly even without the research i couldve just made some generic response and it probably wouldve placed mid so it just feels like i really messed up yk??

14:02 Gah, close to safety but I lost a life. This is the first time I've dipped below 3 lives, and I've lasted this far into EWOW! Just gonna keep it up for as long as i can. I do appreciate the efforts to rebalance the game, even given the folks that have been able to prize over and over and over. Part of me wonders if the people with lots of extra lives will continue to do well in EWOW 10 and beyond, and only decay 1 life per round while people with fewer lives are more likely to lose/decay 2 lives per round and end up at 1 life faster, thus worsening the imbalance instead of improving it. But I know it's a tricky problem to figure out, and anyway, the gaining of lives would have to end eventually if we didn't want EWOW going on forever. EDIT: Also wanted to say a quick word to both "Evan the toe jammer" and "even odd", both on the same contestant grid as me (17:48) and who got eliminated this round. I barely know you guys, but you both had cool booksonas and I'm proud of you for getting this far in the competition.

@@muttywutty9640 I'm pretty confident in my response this time (finally figured out how to rephrase it to avoid I, L, and O). Honestly, with such a hard technical I think I've got a better chance of doing well. A lot of people's answers will probably sound very... thesaurus-y if i had to guess.

@@sutopatikuna I'd agree, but I'm also of the stance that honoring that motivation is a bit untenable for the competition at this point.
this the best ewow episode ever (im not biased at all)
i think this one is bad, actually! you messed up the captions after all!
@alleypercent this looks like a response to some mysterious prompt ngl lol
Wrong
idk the host has that vibe that gives "needs bumpers in bowling"
o
Honestly I agree. Maybe keeping the life cap at 2 or 3 is a better solution.
Furthermore, considering that the underlying assumption of random performance is clearly an inaccurate one given that Purplegaze and 4DJumpman256 should have had almost zero probability of having nine lives in this round when plugging in the numbers to a cumulative binomial distribution function, these figures are too generous to start with, the one for the current system moreso than the other.)
At the end of the day, these are my personal opinions, and while they are shared with other team members, we are not a monolith.
Setting these boundaries for changing phases is honestly rather arbitrary so rather than making two of these decisions, we decided to make one.)
As for additional reasoning why I disagree with the multi-step solution, some of that is honestly a logistical problem-derivation of authority on the team is nebulous at best.

I'm concerned about the life decay system. I'd think a better system would be decreasing the life cap by 1 every episode and those who are already at the life cap get the double response prize for being there, but only the first time their lives decay, (this can stop when the life cap is... 5 or 6 would be fair.) and then if they score in the top 5% every other time. I guess the system about to be implemented will work if you want EWOW to go by faster. But I worry episodes 12-15 are gonna be a bloodbath, even with the lower elimination pool.
Also, I'm gonna start doing this on the B episodes instead of the A episodes. Ranking every season 1 rejoiner:

I'm out. I'm officially eliminated due to my negligence in the the past 3 rounds.
At 2128th, my EWOW journey ends. This was fun :)
I lost. Hopefully we prevail, though. Glad I could compete.

Decent, could've done better this round, and I continue my rise in the RRs! Just behind Scorb though so I'm barely cut off from the list lol.
15:31 555th
I’m getting scared I haven’t been placing the best and I need to do a lot better if I want a chance
still keeping my lives but not by too much
3rd place in EWOW 5, 2nd place in EWOW 7... am I due for a round win in EWOW 9?
considering your remarkable performance in tcc that seems likely enough
My teardrop New update!!!!
-New game oddroplets
-New skin oil dloplet
-New achieviments the detective
I just noticed this detail: on the contestant grid, instead of a red x, the eliminated AIs are covered by a green x and the ChatGPT logo.
I WAS THAT CLOSE TO SURVIVING
Oh gosh, i did _horrendously_ this round... good thing i had 4 lives, but man. Lesson learned, responses gotta be 11 words exactly. Tried to go with a simpler answer after my overly complicated answer last round, but i very much overcorrected...
Better luck next time!
@@syro33 that's great! Wish me luck as well!
Final Placement: 2145th
Its fun to participate in EWOW
Good Luck to all of you!
This is crazy. Let’s do it.
1,448th... I'm proud of that. This has been an albatross around my neck, to be honest. I knew I couldn't keep this up, but after last round I knew my death was imminent. So I decided to wait it out and keep fighting. Good luck to you all -FlagBoi (S.A.M)
I nearly lost a life. Also LIFE CAP INCOMING AAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
I topped 20d? Holy moly! Thanks so much everyone!
Welp, i expected this. Honestly did better then i thought got in top seventh though so thats good. RIP Dylan the Ewower
holy moly this episode is bonkers!
I know I’m out but here’s my answer IF i WAS in ewow: Just turn the advanced system that turns the feature shut up!
IVE BEEN ON 1 LIFE SINCE EWOW 3, HOW AM I NOT DEAD
Dude I also have one life since EWOW 4, we are literally on life support
There are probably people with 1 life from TWOW 2
*EWOW 2
efficiency champ right there
@@Diamond-OSCandMarblestuff Still, I feel like being on one life for 4 episodes straight is an accomplishment.
@@EpiclyBlue- that's true
Welp. Down goes The Unlucky Clover! Thank you for having me.
Wish me luck in the EWOW afterlife…

So sad i got out but it was very nice to have fun playing in ewow!
Welp I’ve been eliminated. It’s been fun, and best of luck to those of you remaining!
I lost all my lives! Oh well, I'll just vote from now on!
How!? How am I still alive!? And how did I place so well?! That was practically a throwaway response because I was sure I was dead! Guess I gotta figure out what to do about the killer robits now.
10:35 OH HELLO THAT'S ME
genuinely wondering why my response ranked so low this time, thought it was my best i've made
1 life gaming now
1,933rd? Man, that year must give me PTSD.
1 life left.. really gotta lock in this round
NOOOOO I'M OUT :( well i had fun getting to compete, thank you guys!!
