    Math teacher here… I use equation editor all the time with latex, so for the majority of my work I use that. However, I often just want a one off symbol here or there. I have put many of these symbols into text replacements, using latex commands for my memory purpose. So if I type /times, which is the usual latex command, text corrections will convert it for me. I also have most of the Greek alphabet set up that way, so /Delta or /pi etc will convert into the appropriate symbol, or /approx or ^^3 or /sqrt.

    Regarding LaTeX: Not only is there a feature to use it inside Pages, as Gary showed us, but also LaTeX files can be created in a standalone mode, using any text editor, and then "compiled" using the command line., They can also be created using dedicated apps, such as TeXShop, which enable you to edit and display documents that are prepared using LaTeX. These documents can get quite complex, and typically the corresponding generated documents are PDF files.

    I love the integration of LaTeX into Pages. LaTeX renders equations beautifully. Thanks for demoing it.

    Long time ago my father and I had a desktop publishing business and typeset a lot of textbooks including math and science. We became very handy with MathType. It's handy to see a lot of the simpler stuff can be done using just MacOS and supplied apps. LaTex is amazing but bit of a steep learning curve, one of my brothers used it for his plasma physics PhD thesis. Good to know those who know it can use it easily on Macs.

    Gary, I really cant thank you enough. Not only is my UA-cam channel taking off with decent content mixed in with great editing skills obtained mostly from your channel and Keynote animations that really make it stand out from other videos, but now I'm teaching electrical apprentices and needed to know how to make squared number equation symbol and found it here. I'm amazed and very grateful for you sharing this valuable information.
    Happy Thanksgiving 2023 Gary!!!

    Took me 45 minutes to find the answer I was looking for. How to make 1/3 into a single character fraction (for ingredients in a recipe). Took me only a minute to find it here! Thank you.

    Hey Gary: Excellent info. Related: For typing feet and inches, use the command key and command shift keys to get for example 6'6" instead of 6’6”

    Gary, what you’ve done here is so important. Do these formula preserve when exported to PDFs or imported from numbers (tables)? I’ve written whole research papers in LaTex which can be a challenge at times and this will save me a ton of time. Thanks again.

    • @macmost

      When exporting to a PDF, yes. Try it and see how it works. Not sure what you mean by "imported from numbers (tables)."

    OMG did they just fix Mac Os scaling with resolution to resolution independent? They wrote on Sonoma Accessibility: " Other updates include an easier way to adjust text size for reading comfort, an option to automatically pause animated images while browsing the web, and a new experience for learning how to use Voice Control." That would be the best Mac Os update in my life if they did!!!

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Рік тому

      There is an Accessibility, Display, Text Size option. Probably not what you want, but you can make text in some places, like Mail or the Finder, larger.

    • @IrrationalDelusion
      @IrrationalDelusion Рік тому

      @@macmost Already checked it. Kind of terrible. But it can be implemented like IOS increase text size feature since it increases text inside Settings as well, so the description saying “for apps below” is wrong because it’s across other apps like System settings too, but very limited in this beta.
