We have been keeping Dobermans for the last 40 years (before I was born :D). We have also kept Labradors, German Shepherd but we always go back to Dobermans. There's something elegant about them. We have a Doberman now and an English Mastiff. Life is good when you have dogs!

I'm a doberman owner since 8 yrs. She is my first dog. Let me tell u tht walking is not "playing" or "exercise". Dobermans need fun games & exercise, which involves a lot running.,hide & seek. They also love aggressive games. I play with my doberman various games & most of the times she initiates it towards the evening. She'll come & pull my clothes, bark etc. She wants me to run & she'll chase me. But she is so fast tht I first pick her up & throw at a distance & then I run & she chases me. Once I pushed her below the bed & I ran..since then every evening she herself daily goes below the bed & barks, & comes out to see whether I ran, then again goes below the bed & barks, & comes out again, finally I run & she chases me..this is our daily play since 8yrs. I also set up obstacles for her, then I run. Even while giving her treats I hide it at different places in house. She searches it. I myself hide behind the curtain, behind doors, outside windows, she loves to play the detective & find me. She is very sociable with other ppl, becoz since childhood me & my family used to give her attention & "ample" of playing. They don't mind getting injured while playing, like we get sports injuries while playing football or any active sports. Sometimes I myself get injured, but I don't mind. Dobermans are very intelligent & jealous. Doberman is in hall/living room & U are in other room talking with ur family member, & if u laugh, she will start barking, she wants to participate in ur conversation, she wants to be a part of the joke & fun u are having with ur other family members. If u keep her just as a lap dog or show piece dog, then her behaviour won't be good & u wud say doberman is not good, it is devil dog. Truth is they are devil, very mischievous. They won't leave u alone, will follow u everywhere, always. They hate being ignored & tied to a corner of the house. They also need disciplining. One person of family is scolding her for something wrong she did, & other person is loving her at tht very moment, then she ll sit on ur head, be disobedient. They r like any other smart human kid. Many a times she is silently hiding behind a door of any room of my house & I'm unaware, suddenly she'll pounce on me, she loves to surprise me & show even she is good in hiding. Me & my sis brought her when she was a puppy, now it's been 8yrs. If u need true bonding with ur dog, bring her in puppy stage. To develop trust & bonding u need to spend time with her. If u are very busy person then doberman is not for u. If u marry u cannot ignore ur spouse, same is with doberman. 👍 If u are of a calm, laid back, relaxed disposition, doberman is not for u, doesn't match ur temperament. Both u & ur dog will suffer. If u like active sports like football, martial arts, basketball, then no other breed is better than doberman for u. MENTAL STIMULATION IS MUST for doberman, not just physical.

My gsd used to eat everything he was offered with anybody & eventually he ended by poisoning by somebody. On the contrary, my dobermann only accepts food given by me, not even my family. There truely r one man dogs highly no-nonsense type. He's more agile, bigger, and intelligent, as what I have observed between the two breeds. My dobermann stays at my farmhouse and always maintaines a keen eye on every boundary and every activity near the boundary .
