  • Freshers like Jyoti Sirawag and even experienced professionals in the food processing industry are facing challenges of low pay, and fewer opportunities.
It's high time that companies recognize the value freshers bring, beyond just their degrees.
Students need to know whether the domain they are choosing, will give them the opportunity to grow and thrive. I fear if the market does not recognize the value food technologists bring to the table, soon enough we will be seeing fewer enrollments in food science and technology colleges across India.
(I am already noticing fewer enrollments in the college I studied and have observed working professionals transitioning to other lucrative domains)
I've made a quick video on how to align your career goals with market needs and amplify your voice in the industry.

As a fresher, watching this video fills me with positivity about the days ahead. I recently completed my internship at an organization, which has been a significant learning curve in my career. I discovered a lot about myself and met some of the best people till date, each with unique perspectives. This experience gave me a clear understanding of the food industry, and I feel optimistic about building a career in this field while also exploring my strengths. Observing the organization’s work culture, I realized the importance of strong conversational skills, and I am determined to improve them. Thanks, Areeb, for this video.

As a recent graduated MPhil student in Food Safety and Quality Management with a CGPA of 3.55/4, it hurts when you apply to multiple organizations and receive no answer. I have been searching for a job for the past 5 months and have applied to more than 60 different job openings but still haven't received a single call back for an interview.
Majority demand a work experience of minimum of 2-3 years, offer low wages or unpaid internships but nobody wants to hire a fresh graduate who is young and eager to learn. sometimes, during amidst of the night i usually think that i have chosen a very bad field and should have opted for another major. but i guess it is useless to cry over a spilt milk.

I feel you. The process of job search is exhausting in itself. I’d recommend to follow the tips mentioned in the video and in case you feel the domain isn’t worth it, try thinking about different routes.

After going through all the conversation, I can say from my side, First thing : life is not same for every food tech, few join with high paid salaries during their initial days based on their college background or by refering from seniors. But in general I completed my BSc in BZC from another reputed college and did MSc food tech in another reputed college. In both colleges I haven't seen a single student from my class Or from my juniors got a decent PAY (25k per month during initial days) they all joined for 11k 15k 20k. So y? Even I joined one food industry I got 13k per month as a fresher... The answer is in food industries the management need people who work for more hrs having a basic knowledge. They don't need food tech, they recruit people from several educational backgrounds 🥲. So when the recruitment is diversified,. Like Bsc chemistry , Ms chemistry, microbiology, statistics, ila main ga vella midane focus untundi.I strongly agree with this becoz i experienced... 🤷‍♂️. Correct me if I am wrong. Thank you 🙏
