Thats a nice Series 1 and an absolute bargain at that price as they are very rare cars now and far more expensive over here in the UK. I own two SD1s myself both of which are on my youtube if you want to have a look. Hope you manage to restore it all the best!
@@barnseysgarage1877 Nitro Silvia on UA-cam does excellent videos on restoring these Rover SD1's - your Rover looks as if it will not have the rust that they and all other cars suffered from here in the sodden and salted UK roads mind you.
I was horribly jealous until I realized it was Australian dollars.....too far away for me! Still, I absolutely love these cars, and would love to find one in the US that I could drive. Oh, if only BL did not botch this magnificent car. Its modern suave British looks and power are what I would love. Cheers, Barnseys!!!! I hope you get much enjoyment out of it!!!
A bargain at $400. The Rover SD1 must be fairly collectable by now. I assume that, like other Leyland products, that they were assembled here in Australia? (Actually, a quick Google search suggests that they were assembled in New Zealand and South Africa, but not here). I was completely in lust with these when they were new. Like so many BL machines the SD1 should have been a world beater, but lack of development, variable quality, and poor reliability killed sales. What a shame.
People tend to look back at these cars with rose tinted glasses because the truth is that on paper the SD1 should've been a fantastic car but in reality they were awful, I owned 2 of them, a 2300S and a 3500 vitesse. They both had reliability issues and rotted like a 1970s alfa romeo (probably because they leak like the titanic), and the build quality was terrible.
Yep.. $400 for a nice exhaust noise and soggy sandals.! Naaaa. I'm jealous really. That is running quite evenly and you can't buy them in Birmingham Blighty for love, money or both.!. If you could even see a good 2600 out in OZ you'd probably need to pay $2000 just to look at it.. hehehe...!
$400 was cheep!!! it was sitting outside for sale for ages at a house on the way to work. the guy got it of his father , I did not really want another car so I offered $400 and he said yes!
That's awesome 400 dollars!! You wouldn't get a Mk1 sd1 over here for that price, I hope you decide to restore the Rover 👍

400 dollars is £235. In the UK you wouldn't find a 3500 sd1 for under £1500 and £10k + for a good one.
That car needs rescuing
What a great find bargain for $400. I brought a sd1 vandan plas 1985 v8 completely solid brought for $950 just needs a new paint job and new interior
There is definitely bargains out there!
G'day mate... what a bargain. Always loved them... Reaching top money now here in the UK.

That applies to a lot of cars of the era! Its the shape and the V8 does it for me
@@barnseysgarage1877 yeah you're right although I also had 2 granadas and never had any issues with either of them!
