Great design. The fact that they didn’t need to raise the trunk to accommodate the top is amazing. Had the trunk needed to be raised, the trunk it would’ve destroyed the lines of the TBirds tapered rear.
As I have discovered after finally getting one! Why they wouldn't go with this much more efficient approach truly is one of the great missed automotive opportunities of all time.
Although the actual production model did have the porthole, with the internal mechanisms, a porthole would show the springs, brackets and just no way to hide it. Would have been a very nice upgrade in place of the removable hardtop.
In 2009, the T-Bird concept was on the VA stand in Geneva Motor Show, and a visitor insisted on buying it, so yes, it is a pretty cool looking solution! Unfortunately, it is only a concept and therefore not useful for a roadcar...
I think this is a special version, with the glass roof it doesn't come off, it slides behind and is protected by the cover plate. The side circle glass window is in the removable roof to convertible model. Hope that helps. :)

I wish ford made this
That's the way it should have been. Taking the top off is a pain in the butt

This was a beautiful design . Ford should of produced them; would of sold out. WTF !

Portholes make all the difference. I have my 03 and never taken the top off. 😜
Awesome! Can I get this for my 2005 T-Bird?

Not fair!
They left out the little round window in the side.
