i love how old cameras still can manage to compete with newer image quality in terms of lens and colour. yes newer digital mirrorless cam is fast and reliable auto focus, but we lose so many interesting fact that we do while taking picture with older cam.. we have more time to slowin down and enjoy the atmosphere
It just amazes me such old pieces of machine works without batteries, tiny metal parts moves around and boom pictures are made… there are definitely beauty in that!!
@@itscapturedbysam that’s trully beauty in pain (pain of loading film, pain of burnin film, pain of mechanical stuck) 🤣
@@ridhwannasution5085 my most pain is in the dusk removal process 😂
Great Video!👍 😂 The bloopers! HAPPY birthday to you!
Hahahhah every day I got a new camera is my birthday 🥳
wow I love the tones you making me go back to film cameras
Searching for your Roliflex video now! Awesome tutorial vlog.
Lovely video Sam, fantastic photographs 😍📷🤟
Thank you!!🤓
Wow fantastic great work
Really love your videos! Keep up the good work!
thank you :)
Hi Sam! I love your videos! Keep it going, long life to film photography!
long life to film photography indeed!!
Glad to see I’m not the only one that gets kicked out of locations 😁 great video and set Sam!
Just have to be careful especially during the weekdays~ weekend are normally easier!!
I have this camera but the previous model Seagull 4A. It is my very first analog camera. I bought it for only 20 euros. TBH, it's actually quite satisfactory despite the quality is so-so but my soul is happy with all of the results.
Honestly with this camera, it’s more about using the camera than getting the best picture 😅.. it a fun cameras to play with..
I like the look from the old Seagull camera, the light vignetting adds to your models 60's look !
I’m not really a fan of vignette normally, but this one don’t bother me at all~
Wow, the Hasselblad photos in the gas station were fantastic with the vibrant colors and matching red scarf, well done. I had a Seagull but I guess I lent it to someone as I can't find it anymore, it is a great fun way to get a taste for TLR photography. Luckily, I have 4 Rolleiflex TLRs and a Rolleicord Vb, so I don't miss the Seagull. I highly recommend you look at getting a Rolleiflex, if it's not the f2.8 model they can be picked up for a fairly decent price or look at the lower tier Rolleicord which still takes stunning photos. I basically use these every day to take photos on the streets of Shanghai and love it and nobody refuses a photo when they see me carrying the TLR.
I said I wanted try this camera for street photos, still haven't try that yet~ gotta go do it!!
@@itscapturedbysam Once you get used to using it, you can get some great street images for sure. It's more compact than a Hasselblad and not as noisy as it doesn't have a mirror. Keep up the good work, love your videos. Subscribed!
You have to know this camera and love working with it, then everything will work out. Supporting that statement is this video. "TLR Lubitel 2 cameras, Lubitel 166U examples of black and white photos"
Thank you for publishing!
Really enjoy your video.
Thank you!!☺️
This was such a wonderful video, and I would snap it up for that price! You took some lovely shots, please done let it sit on a shelf! :)
I really enjoyed this video
Illegal comparison, hahaha :D Thanks for another awesome video, Sam!
hahahahah thank you for watching :)
I love your videos and personality so much
Thank you ☺️
So neat! What a refreshing take in photography, try a new way of doing something. Great video!
Thank you for watching ~ 🥰
I love you keep does videos coming
Great videos, glad i found your channel.
I have a Seagull, but still haven’t finished a full roll out of it yet (after three years).
I was curious how image quality changed based on lens characteristics between my Yashicas, Rolleis, and Ikontas.
Sometimes these older and simpler lens formulas can provide an elusive magical quality that super accurate or technically superior cameras cannot duplicate.
Very nice photos. The Seagull is fun. You would love a Rolleiflex. I have both the Hassy and and Rolleiflex, and love then both. Keep up the good work. Beautiful model.
Thank you for watching~
I've seen the Seagull before, and often wondered about it. It seems like it's pretty similar to the Yashica Mats, moreso than Rolleis. If you feel like you want to try more TLR shooting, but don't want to use the Seagull anymore (as you mentioned at the end of the video), but don't want to spend Rollei money, it might be worth looking into one of the Yashica Mat variants. I have a Yashica D and it's pretty fun to use, although I rarely shoot medium format.
I feel like Yashica would be pretty similar with the Seagull, just judging by the look of it... I would like to try it in the future if I get my hand on one of those~
@@itscapturedbysam That's probably true, they do look pretty similar. 😅
Watching from Wuxi, Jiangsu. I've been back and forth trying to convince myself to get / not to get the seagull 4A. This video doesn't help in my mental battle. I was also recently at the shanghai Camera mall and saw so many Seagull TLR's there. Well, anyway, than you for your video and bright smile,
Where is this Shanghai Camera Mall place?? I’d live to visit next time I’m in Shanghai!!
You're such an entertainer!
Thank you 🥳
my goodness that was the first camera I have ever had my hand on in my whole life this does bring back memory of 40 years ago. do you have a link of sample photos this Seagull took and a side by side comparison with the other camera would be even better!
I’ll post them on my instagram… I’ve been thinking about start some sort of blog to post the photos so you guys can see it in better resolution.. I’ll let you know when I get it up running~ ☺️
I have two Yashica TLR’s and they are both very nice and great shooters. I have a 124 G and EM versions of the camera. They have built in meters but neither is very accurate or trustworthy. The Yashica Mat 124G is probably the best of the two. They are only 6x6 but the 124 will also do 220 film if you have any. I use the Seagull GP3 which is a 220 black and white film and I really like it
I’ve seen a lot people recommend Yashica for entry level TLR, I’d like to try it in the future as well~ 🤓
@@itscapturedbysam yeah, yashica mat 124g is a good camera. I still have it and shoot photos with it. However, be aware of the light meter on it which only has the maximum iso at 400 only. Try it, it has a brighter ground glass for sure😉
I just found a Hua Zhong camera on my shelf of old cameras similar to the Seagull. Never used it. What kind of film do you use and where do you get it developed? Thanks
The colors be crazy on film
The Kodak Gold and portra 400 are my favorites 😎
It's my favorite now! I don't shoot film
oh great i got a front row this time!
I like trying out different cameras but prices being what they are I'm in the camp of match good optics with your film. I love my Holgas but film is too expensive to experiment. If you like the TLR experience then it is worth lookingat the Rolliflex.
i can tell you with responsibily that the Seagull 4A may not better than 4B though it was the advanced type to 4B.Because the last time i used it,Each frame of that roll of film was out of focus, all the 12 pics.i found it was the problem on the knob, which means when i rotate and adjust that knob the focusing was done and it was good on the viewfinder, but actually it wasn't on the film.I tried to Google or Baidu this kind of problem, i found...I can't tell whether this is a common problem on 4A but i am not the only one. Some of guys fixed it,but i don't wanna pay more time on this stuff.Though it has a better looking, but,as you said ,it is only $50,it may not enough to afford a payment to fix it! Ah、it took me 500RMB when i got this by the way...hahaha.
when you say "what more can i ask",i think it is time to teach them a terrific mandarin slang which is “要啥自行车” !hahahahahha
You can glue the leatherette down with Pliobond
crazy i shot some seagull film the other day
How do you like it~
@@itscapturedbysam came out bad the film had mold in it and also I'm working on a project and I need a print of a picture where do I get one
Nice camera! Is it the same company that makes Seagull watches?
Yes you can😂, also you did. Lovely~~~
but you cant do multi exposures with Hassy :)
cool
😎
Where did you buy your camera from?
Mostly eBay. This one I bought it from flea market ~
Wow that F10 parking lot sure looks a lot like CSUN’s F10 parking lot 😅
I’ll never tell 🤐😂
Not as high quality as most Japanese and European TLRs but a real step up from a DuaFlex. 😊
“A gate way to TLR” I call it~ for how cheap it is~ 😂
Seagull made quality cameras
They really do~
Sam is just trying to shoot IMAX film now.
Oh you never know where Sam is going~ 🤓
Could you repeat that price again, I didn't quite catch that 😋
5~~~~0~~~~ dollars~~~~~~ 🎤😂
I got a Seagull as a gift from my dad but and as much as I loved him for giving the thing to me I was disappointed by Its optical err "quality" Take a 35mm SLR with a decent lens and 100 ISO film and it will deliver as much or better detail than the three-element lens of the seagull or even better get a e.g. 6x9 Agfa Record with a three-element Apotar or save some money for a Yashica or Rolleicord.
There are for sure better cameras than this, for its age and price, it really not bad. But yes I do agree that you could definitely find better cameras that produce better image quality!! ☺️

honestly? photography in its purest form is very cheap. everyone has a camera in their pocket. a good photographer can get great results with that. unfortunately i am not a good photographer so i must rely on expensive equipment that basically serves the same function as an ig filter
I do agree equipment can be very cheap, and nowadays cameras can be really really smart and can do a lot for us!! But I think if we like photography and want to be a better photographer, the first step is to stop calling ourselves “not a good photographer”, I’m very guilty of this as well LOL~ By the end of the day, no matter what camera we use, a good picture is a good picture, and nobody really cares what camera it was shot on… I think 😂~
$50? Yeah right. The cheapest I've seen that is closer to $300
