    Thank you for this very informative video. I bought the Dwarf for the solar eclipse and very happy with it. Still learning for regular night sky photos but enjoying using it and seeing the galaxies come to life on the screen. I only fix the final image in my phone (Snapseed) but thanks for the links to the other tutorials for processing in Siril. I'll give it a go.

      Thanks, the processed shot of Orion nebula and the others on my Flikr page (link in description) I processed using Siril. It's free and a really good program to use as a beginner. Check the linked tutorial video and have fun! 🙂

    The ring light actually does turn to red when you begin recording in astro mode... but its probably better off turning it completely off anyhow because I have found that I only get between 3-4 hours per battery with this thing. I am wondering if the Dwarf 3 will be more power efficient as well? I understand that the 3rd gen will have a 10000mah internal battery compared to the 5600mah external ones we have on the D2. I do appreciate the D2 being able to connect through usb directly to a power bank to maintain longer uptimes while imaging. I have been impressed with the quality of the images I have been getting from this little telescope. I wish the Dwarf was better when it comes to imaging the planets, but besides that, its amazing.

      Thanks for pointing that out. Indeed it does turn red. Lights on equipment (especially astrophotography) isn't really an issue as you are not visually observing therefore you do not need to have full dark adaption (I've another video on this about making your phone red light but also shows how your eyes actually become dark adapted and it's not just your pupals opening). My issue was I was out with our club and it's a mix of visual and imaging people. So I definitely had to prevent any stray light :-)
      If you're out on your own or with other astrophotographers it's no issue!
      I would assume the D3 will have a longer running time with the higher capacity battery, again I reckon you'll be able to charge on the fly if needed.

      Currently $449 for the next 48 hours and then going up to $499. If you ordered a Dwarf II you can get an additional $50 off so if you order within the launch window you can get it for $399

      That's a great price and shows they are taking care of their customers.

    I am still undecided on discarding my camera and relying on Dwarf or Seestar for astro photography. However I'm not interested in posting photos on social media but printing them out in A4 or A3 size images. In your experience are they of sufficient pixel depth (?) to achieve results comparable to my full frame Sony A3?

      Hi Michael. What is the exact model Sony camera you have?

    Does the DWARF II track both Azimuth and altitude?

    • @toddryan2004
      @toddryan2004 Місяць тому

      Yes! As the object moves in the sky the unit keeps it in view by adjusting the azimuth and altitude.

    11:40 Please change the password! It is EXTREMELY important to change the password because the device is running Linux with open root access and a standard password for root. You can log into a shell via ssh, but if you change even a small thing that prevents the boot process, you will have irreparable damage. The thing will be a brick, unfortunately I speak from experience. Furthermore, the password for home wifi is stored in clear text, etc.

      Thanks for that great advice and it's unfortunate you had to learn the hard way. I'll amend the video!

      @@StargazerMan Luckily, Dwarflab replaced the device during the warranty period, even though I destroyed it through my own curiosity (and stupidity). I asked Dwarflab for a way to boot the device via USB for recovery. The answer was that this was not possible and they offered me a replacement.
