Note that it's very important to "cap" your posts. Leaving the end grain exposed on a vertical post wicks in water and rots out the post very quickly. A post cap is designed to shed that water. I made my own post caps from cedar. Your mileage may vary. 😊

Hey Todd! The fresh snow certainly was beautiful. However the muddy, mucky mess it left in its wake is kind of a pain in the butt. The property was so nice and dry and now everting is a huge mess-- much like a typical spring up here. So, such is life! We may have to check out this Hackensack that you so often speak of! It sounds like a very fun place, with fun events and people! Thats such a great idea for the angle grinder! That chainsaw is basically an extension of Teddy's body so he probably didnt even think to use anything different that could potentially make his life easier or do a better job. But, yes it would be SSL approved! 😉 We were definitely winging it that day! (and most days... lets be honest) Per code, we are putting a top railing over the posts. We would've loved to leave it open like that but gotta follow the rules! Otherwise yes, we would've sealed them and then put lights on them just like at the project house "smokers hut" (I cant believe I just called it that) LOL- he wasn't thrilled I put that shot of him in there but he allowed it so I kept it.. just charging up his solar batteries! Who can blame him? ☀️ Col 3:23- that has been a verse I hold close, especially remembering it when starting a new job. Love the other two as well! Hi guys, just a thought about the movement of the stairs...you could always mount a small set of casters or pneumatic wheels to the bottom of the stairs to move back and forth with the swaying of the tree and frame? Or if you really wanted to get creative with it....either fabricate or source a pair of small runners or slides that will contact the ground at the right angle? Just thinking out loud. You guys are doing such a fantastic job and the ingenuity is top notch! Love your videos and the family oriented side to it....really nice to see!!! God bless!!!

Hi Jenna and Ted 🌲 I'm dropping in to see what you're doin' today. As usual, nice job Jenna with the various random clips at the beginning and throughout, they are always very enjoyable to watch. Nice to see Finley and CJ having fun like that. You all were once again getting a workout with the draw knife on the logs. Kind of like crunches and arm/shoulder workout at the same time. I laughed out loud with the shot of Finley chillaxin' - Finley is so cute. I anticipate Ted's humor as I watch these and just knew he'd do something while on the deck shoveling the snow 😉 The real easter egg was when he was carrying the gas can out across the clearing ; he totally caught me off guard with that one 🙃 The posts took a lot of work and effort and certainly turned out great. The distance shots showed how they blended in so nicely and disappeared into the view with surrounding trees. The vertical elements are fine but my concern is with anything in the railing that run horizontal as your eye would be drawn to it. Not sure what your plans are for between the posts but have a suggestion. There are some companies that have very nice desk cabling systems that I have seen used elsewhere. Cable Bullet and Muzata are a couple. These systems provide unobstruced and nearly invisable view (can get cable in black) and would also make snow shoveling the deck mush easier. I believe Muzata would also work with you as a sponsor for the advertisement. I look forward to seeing where you land on that aspect. I really enjoyed the various clips and outakes you place near the end. From one of your loyal cones, let me say that you " Minnesnowtans" are tough folks. I wince when I watch the ice cutting and then you two go from the sauna for polar plunge. Hi Larry! thanks for stopping by to say hello! Yes the kids have had a phenomonal winter up here! Peeling logs is so satisfying and relaxing...defiinitely a woek out, but thats the best kind! Haha finley is adorable, but she's also growing up so fast! She's very mature for her age so we often have to remind ourselves that she's still onl 13! LOL, me too! The volume was turned way down on that clip beause i was standing right by the mini truck and it was really loud..... so you couldnt hear me laughing about it! lol he totally caught me off guard! Its so true about the posts blending in! I was actually telling Teddy as i was filming all of those shots, that it was really didfficult to capture because it just blends right in! I wish we wou'dve known about Muzata! We already ordered and received what we're using, otherwise we would've reached out to them! Hi Sam! Thank you so much! Haha yes we are ready to be done with the soot, that’s for sure! We just tapped into our 4th 20 lb tank yesterday. Barely used any of that… and now we’re done (hopefully!) It’s hard to judge because once you get down to about 1/3 tank of propane left, it just doesn’t give you the flame you need so we’d have to get a new tank even though it wasn’t all the way empty. And then of course you factor in the cold… so I’d safely say all in all we used about 3 tanks to do everything. Much less than we thought! Have a great weekend and we’ll see ya on the next one!

@TheLiFeInPines the wire system fits underneath the top rail, and you normally put 3 lines, and when you sit on the deck, it doesn't block the view! Look up, life elevated off grid they did it, and it came out awesome!
Hi guys…great Chanel, so much energy & fun as you work ! And you're building some very cool stuff ! So FYI I'am not an expert but, I watch a few off grid building Chanel's and they burn & then lightly wire brush & then use an oil stain that seals the wood. And I believe from what it appears, that there is no more burnt material to come off. And the wood looks amazing. & clean ! One Chanel uses an Australian oil stain but I don't recall the brand ?

Yes, we burned and brushed all the beams and floor joists, etc. We opted not to seal because the technique itself seals and protects the wood. Since these handrail posts have the potential for people to brush up against them, we do plan on sealing them! I bet you’re thinking of linseed oil! The fresh snow certainly was beautiful. However the muddy, mucky mess it left in its wake is kind of a pain in the butt. The property was so nice and dry and now everting is a huge mess-- much like a typical spring up here. So, such is life!

Thats such a great idea for the angle grinder! That chainsaw is basically an extension of Teddy's body so he probably didnt even think to use anything different that could potentially make his life easier or do a better job. But, yes it would be SSL approved! 😉

Hi guys, just a thought about the movement of the stairs...you could always mount a small set of casters or pneumatic wheels to the bottom of the stairs to move back and forth with the swaying of the tree and frame? Or if you really wanted to get creative with it....either fabricate or source a pair of small runners or slides that will contact the ground at the right angle? Just thinking out loud. You guys are doing such a fantastic job and the ingenuity is top notch! Love your videos and the family oriented side to it....really nice to see!!! God bless!!!

Hi Jenna and Ted 🌲 I'm dropping in to see what you're doin' today. As usual, nice job Jenna with the various random clips at the beginning and throughout, they are always very enjoyable to watch. Nice to see Finley and CJ having fun like that. You all were once again getting a workout with the draw knife on the logs. Kind of like crunches and arm/shoulder workout at the same time. I laughed out loud with the shot of Finley chillaxin' - Finley is so cute. I anticipate Ted's humor as I watch these and just knew he'd do something while on the deck shoveling the snow 😉 The real easter egg was when he was carrying the gas can out across the clearing ; he totally caught me off guard with that one 🙃 The posts took a lot of work and effort and certainly turned out great. The distance shots showed how they blended in so nicely and disappeared into the view with surrounding trees. The vertical elements are fine but my concern is with anything in the railing that run horizontal as your eye would be drawn to it. Not sure what your plans are for between the posts but have a suggestion. There are some companies that have very nice desk cabling systems that I have seen used elsewhere. Cable Bullet and Muzata are a couple. These systems provide unobstruced and nearly invisable view (can get cable in black) and would also make snow shoveling the deck mush easier. I believe Muzata would also work with you as a sponsor for the advertisement. I look forward to seeing where you land on that aspect. I really enjoyed the various clips and outakes you place near the end. From one of your loyal cones, let me say that you " Minnesnowtans" are tough folks. I wince when I watch the ice cutting and then you two go from the sauna for polar plunge. We just tapped into our 4th 20 lb tank yesterday. Barely used any of that… and now we’re done (hopefully!)
It’s hard to judge because once you get down to about 1/3 tank of propane left, it just doesn’t give you the flame you need so we’d have to get a new tank even though it wasn’t all the way empty. And then of course you factor in the cold… so I’d safely say all in all we used about 3 tanks to do everything. Much less than we thought!

I'am not an expert but, I watch a few off grid building Chanel's and they burn & then lightly wire brush & then use an oil stain that seals the wood. And I believe from what it appears, that there is no more burnt material to come off.
And the wood looks amazing. & clean !
One Chanel uses an Australian oil stain but I don't recall the brand ?

Yes, we burned and brushed all the beams and floor joists, etc. We opted not to seal because the technique itself seals and protects the wood.
Since these handrail posts have the potential for people to brush up against them, we do plan on sealing them! I bet you’re thinking of linseed oil!
We still haven’t decided what we’re going to use… 😬

are you going to use lag bolts for your post ? That would be best to keep them from moving.
We are going to see how these type fasteners work out. The posts seem pretty solid for now, but if they start to loosen up, we can always put traditional lags in at a future date. I guess only time will tell. 🤔
