- Rempah Ratus Kitchen’s recipe this week is an indian vegetarian main dish, specifically, a watery dal curry called Sayur Manis Thanni Saar. In Malay the dish is called Kari Dal Sayur Manis. Sayur manis, when translated, means sweet leaf. This vegetable is called tavasi murunga keerai in the local Tamil language. This sweet leaf is probably indigenous to this region. A vegan Indian recipe, this simple dal recipe forms part of Malaysian Indian Cuisine. As a keerai kari, it is usually cooked in Indian homes on vegetarian days, but is actually sumptuous with ikan bilis sambal or sardine varuval.

Ingredients:
130 grams of mung dal, boiled
120 grams sayur manis
1 medium onion, chopped
1 big tomato, chopped
5 red bird’s eye chillies
6 cloves garlic, chopped
1 tsp fennel seeds
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp halba campuran/kadigu talipu
100 ml coconut milk
Oil
Salt to taste
