rotflmbo! J.C. was on an episode of McHale's Navy back in the day. I'm surprised Quint and the Crew didn't throw him overboard (I may have with him acting this way!! 🤣🤣🤣) Like Heck I would!! What a talented NUT!! #ColonnaLives!!
Amazing vocal projection with a countenance made for comedy, a true natural, Mr. Colonna was. In the same league as Durante, perhaps, real whiz-bang performers with tremendous stage-presence & likeability. Interesting in that both began as musicians---Durante as a pianist in Coney Island honky-tonks & later night-clubs, including his own; Colonna, I'm assuming, as a trombonist or horn-player in big-bands. Music alone, however, couldn't contain their outsize-personalities. They both evolved into fully-rounded entertainers, yet audiences always could recognize & appreciate their individually-unique styles. Such uniqueness simply doesn't exist anymore. Today's comedians all follow a herd-mentality. Durante had a million of 'em, i.e., jokes, while Colonna had a million jars of moustache-wax, ha-ha! (sorry)
This cut of Ebb tide repitiitiouesly haunted my memery one night. I had to look it up, and here it is. Thank you Anthony. ... And Dr. demento too. may 17, 2022
I've heard the old 78 with him singing this, but this is the first time I've actually seen him performing the song. Great fun!
What a set of pipes!! All because of those vintage Disney cartoons, I loved this guy!!!
Not to mention the March Hare from "Alice in Wonderland".
What breath control! Hahahaha
Doesn't blink total focus... BRILLIANT performance
Seriously, was he part of the inspiration for the Mario Brothers? I can't see him without seeing Mario and Luigi.
At _least_ Luigi.
XD
A Truly Exceptional Voice
I remember getting my ass beat for jumping on the bed to this song as a kid

Colonna was always great--on the radio in the '40s, and in films--Road to Singapore, etc.
