Nice fish indeed, reminds me of my youth when I lived in Tassie chasing runners......many hours fishing the lower reaches of Forth and Leven rivers. Never managed to land a fish like that but lost some thumpers and saw some massive fish.......
Awesome fish, well done! I reckon a strip of fresh squid or garfish would work well - both present really well in areas of current especially if the strip is sewed on with the hook (passed fully through twice to form a stitch with the mono) so that it lays flat and wafts around in the current - have caught big bream, tailor, flathead, trevally, snapper and mulloway like this. Just a thought and worth a shot as you can get plenty of squid and gars in the Tamar further down and they freeze really well for bait if looked after (wrapped tightly in cling wrap).
Fresh cut baits from various oily type fish work well , but have seen and caught them on scallops , prawns , worms , grubs , bluebait etc , just need a bait in the water when one swims past and is in the mood to bite !
Bit of a grey area that one mate , I always have a license but others don’t , best ask inland fisheries about that one , especially if purposely targeting trout
Cut baits from fresh fish work well as well as scallops and even blue bait , the most important thing is having a bait in the water when a hungry one happens to swim past
I agree and catch hundreds of trout every year on lures in other waters , but in this particular spot when targeting the big double figure fish that I’m looking for , bait is way more affective way of catching them , I have had tens of thousands of casts with lures here for only a few dozen 1-4 lb fish , the big ones I’m after are mostly scavengers feeding on chopped up eels and fish that have passed through the turbines of the power station close by
@@peckysoutdooradventures3446 l only fly fish for sea trout in southern Tasmania mostly using my own wet streamer fly patterns l have caught 17 sea runners over 10 pounds the biggest was 27 pounds. Christopher bassano from up your way has done a bit of fishing with me 👍

Thanks mate , one very happy bloke at the minute 👌🏻
What do you use as bait for them pecky? Pilchard fillets? Glassies/ whitebait?

I have a question for ya, do you need a fresh water fishing lic to fish that part?

@@peckysoutdooradventures3446 thanks :)
Have you ever caught anything in winter at tailrace?
There’s always the odd resident fish about all year
Wow nice job mate what bait did you use if you don’t mind me asking?

Love it
Nice fish but bait fishing for trout is a poor way to catch them 😊
