i feel like Queenie's character should have stayed single at the end of the tv series. she spent months obsessing over Tom then participating in hook up culture, and when she finally goes to therapy, she's only been truly single for a couple of months and gets into another relationship. I agree with you; the series just had her centering men again.
The discussion around racialised trauma is SO important but I hear it talked about so rarely. I saw a black girl on a dating app saying "sorry, no black guys, it's a trauma thing." And I do wonder how often it's a part of people's choices to date exclusively interracially. I certainly have a black female friend with a traumatic childhood who only seems to date white guys. Absolutely no judgement from me by the way. But I've always wondered to what extent this operates in people. And it applies to all sides really. Do certain white people who don't date white people do so always for fetishism? Or are there some who do so because of trauma? Honestly I'd love to see more discussions of that and how to navigate it because we only ever talk about interracial dating through the lenses of fetishism or internalised racism.
Even if you have good relationships with some people looking like the ones you got a blocage with you can still have the issue I think it's compartmentalization. It's a lil weird but my mind just compared that to the "I got a black friend" people 💀.
Hi! Great video as always! Will you make a video on “lion”, a book turned movie? I haven’t watched the movie but I’ve read the book and it’s beautiful! Highly recommend.
Here's why I feel Queenie got little love. I never read the book. The cultural divide and perhaps the fact most of is been there and done it. As far as what she endured as a child with her mom needed to be addressed more. I'm Caribbean American and i love watching shows about that segment of people is great to me though i identify African American too

@@khadijaabdunnur6727 Thank you for watching and for the recommendation. I’ve added to my list!
I warmed up to the book & loved the show. Thanx 4 this 😊
F.Y.I you are right about the show lacking the level of depth that the book has.
The lack of depth probably makes it more enjoyable on some level. Like I said I left smiling
