I swear Dave Mackintosh looks and almost drums like the new age Dave Lombardo and now the new drummer Gee Anzalone looks and almost drums like the new age Mike Portney. Awesome metal legends
dave mackintosh have the heart of the songs and the spirit, but anzalone have the great technique and a percent of heart in the songs, cheers from arica-chile machine!!!! i´ve been follow the band since 2001 when the internet albums didn´t come to this far( sorry my english is very poor) my age in that time was 13 and i listened the demo of dragonheart...valley of the damned, that change my musician perspective, un abrazo maestro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can play drums at an alright level, and I can play songs like this. But, keeping in mind that this guy plays like this for 7+ mins on pretty much every song, at this pace on pretty much every song, for 1,5 hour+ concerts ... it's pretty darn amazing that he can achieve such endurance. I'm knackered after playing one of their songs once.
these are always fun to revisit. was lucky enough to see DF once with the original lineup, before zp and dave left. i was in awe watching dave move so fast, i had no idea how intense he would be banging the crap out of his kit.
While I think Gee Anzalone is a fantastic drummer, he lacks the raw power and presence that Dave possesses' as a drummer. I will always miss seeing him on the kit when Dragon Force rolls through on Tour.
@@TheDSSlayer when did I say anything about technicalities? I've seen nothing from Gee that makes him objectively better (or worse) then Dave. There's some subjective arguments to be made, which would be personal taste. Gee looks like a child surrounded by his heroes when he plays, happy and joyful. Dave looks totally engrossed in his performance. I prefer the latter to the former.
dave are the best holy shit...there are great drummers like Lombardo(SLAYER) or Lars(METALLICA) but dave is on another level of speed and accuracy... i fucking love Dragonforce and i think that they are one of the best bands in the world nowadays
People say Dave sucks, but face it, no one has that much energy playing the drums, and keep on playing with full energy for 5+ mins. He's amazing, even tho its the same beats over and over, only a few can actually keep up and play like him. Dragonforce rules :D
the drum appears dancing with him, never another style will replace blast-beat, never another drummer will replace Dave Mackintosh, Keep Rulling man, you rock!
@TheMysteriousSage The Rev was undoubtedly one of the best drummers of our generation. He was a exceptionally gifted drummer. Take the time to listen to each and every song he recorded with A7x. There's so much variety and technical engineuity. And for the record, it's not mainstream metal. It's awesome metal.
@dangerrat456 thats because he uses trigers, and the beaters for those trigers go down to correctly hit the trigers (i think that he uses the Roland KD7 Kick Controllers)
@semitonedown As far as what triggers and electronic pads are for? A lot of extreme metal drummers trigger their kicks, snares and even toms. The triggers are small and usually attach to the rim. This so they get a consistent sound using two bass drums at high volume and speeds. What Dave is doing is he isn't even using the kick drums but using a pedal that has pad under the beater, the beater angles down and hits the pad. A lot Roland electric kits have used them...
I can actually play at this speed and sound just like him, but I could never do this for hours and hours at a time. I get so sick of when people say he sucks or his band is gay, cause they're not. Even if they were, you don't need the best drummer in the universe or a straight vocalist to write amazing songs like Dragonforce does.
+Cannibal Corpse Just no. He his fast no dubt about, but this song is almost all the time on 4/4, you can master if you have the stamina to do that double bass for 7 minutes. He is insane, that for sure ;) Listen some Tool song, that require huge drum skill.
@i3rucei3ruce The pedals have the pads on the front of them and the beaters are angled down -like I said to semitonedown above, around 0:29 to 0:48 you can clearly see his beaters never touch the real kick drums but angle down and hit the pads on the front of the pedals themselves...
@semitonedown Richard Christy is one of my favorite metal drummers -he doesn't use triggers on his acoustic drums. He will use electronic pads to add sounds & textures to the music, like Sean Reinert, but he doesn't augment his acoustics with triggered sounds. He actually practices & uses DYNAMICS to help himself play better. However, I would understand a kit being triggered in an outdoor or huge venue where live miking would be impractical or impossible -there are rare exceptions in my book...
@deathmetalstrength I don't understand what trigger pads could be for? I play both electronic and regular kit, I think it take just as much effort to strike the pad or skin. Real drums have more of a rebound. If he's triggering the bass drum SOUNDS then why is he keeping his legs going?
@semitonedown Trigger regular drums is a matter of attaching a small trigger to (usually -but there are different kinds) the rim then part of it will set just above the head to pick up the vibrations from the head (some sit right on the head). You choose what sound you want from the trigger & you could hit a 10" tom & trigger a piccolo snare drum sound. A lot of that went on in the 90's -I read a lot of Modern Drummer. When you mix sounds, they sounds natural, or just use the triggered sound...
I think the main reason why Dave leave DragonForce is because he didn't get so much attention. Everyone keeps just pay attention to Herman and Sam. I mean, just look how beast he is in this video! He deserves more appreciation than what he used to got when he was in DragonForce
Fawwaz Putra I know I’m really late but I actually know Dave as unlikely as that seems and the reason he told me for leaving is he said he didn’t like taking all the time touring. The others may be right as he left to do other music but that’s what he has told me. He’s a great guy
He left because he needed a break. DF is hard to do both musically and in terms of ther long lasting tours. It had nothing to do with not getting the spot light.
4:30 : Is he using some electric drum pad for the bass drum ? Those beaters looks upside down like an electric drum. This could be an alternative instead of using triggers.
it says in the description that "you may notice that from 03:31 - 04:00 dave's playing is completely off from the music." OHHHH REALLY?????!!!! ALL HAIL DAVE!! :)
@Trogdorwillrise oh thanks. i appreciate it. but no, i never meant anything about how he drums. i meant his set sounds fine. so forget you. call me all you want.
You can't call him bad. Sure most of his skill is based on speed, but try playing that fast constantly with occasional fills, and singing his backing vocals part without going off pitch. THAT's fucking hard, and that's why Dave kicks double ass!
@Drumpunk13 Triggering doesn´t mean you don´t actually play the bass drum, for example. It´s used because you can barely hear the bass drum when it´s played very fast, that has nothing to do witch cheating.
Wow i didnt realize how good he is until i actually watched him! People mainly talk about herman sam and zp be4 he left! But dave should be just as popular as those 3! AMAZING! :D
@deathmetalstrength Okay I think I see your point. Is it that he keeps the shells there to hide the pads that bothers you, or that it cheats on making sure the sound is consistent? In terms of playing the drums I see no difference. I don't know much about metal drummers. Out of curiosity, how do they use triggers on the kick drums?
Those fills tho 😲 Yep 👍 watching in 2145 remembering this guy ends up playing the drum solo of life, and dragonforce defeats the heralds of the apocalypse in 2045, you’ll see. It leads to ascension and world peace ✌️ you guys are gonna love it Bye 👋
at 3:30 to about 4:00 his head jack or something got unplugged and he had to do that 30 secs of by heart until some1 pluged it back in so i reckon he did pretty dam good p.s. I was scared at 03:31 to 04:00 I thought: Man, did he realize that is out of rhythm? kkkkk But then I saw the description of the video and understand why.
@deathmetalstrength Personally I have no problem with a drummer using electronic kicks or any other drums. My favorite drummer is Neil Peart and he's used both forever. My issue is that you call it lazy. Electronic or not there's nothing lazy about the playing. Electronic kicks mean each hit will sound the same but if other metal drummers use triggers then they should be called lazy too.
