Making it look easy there! Congrats on your podium finish! I only ever see guys showing off their Pricey's shocks on their builds on facebook. Really cool to hear his approach to the dual spring setup
Wow, what a awesome crawler circut, love the brook running through it, leant bit about shocks too. It gave me a few ideas on how to mix n match shocks, nice one 👍
Link's in the description and there's a perma link to his latest how-to-order here: facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=pfbid0UjuZ7LFArSgUKiLtvVtwzQUwHWrMxRSETr6wDgzP9DiWDnKtCFuEo534Hk49FJmxl&id=100057753455776 He's the man for this stuff! I'm just compiling an order for 3 different vehicles and we'll test them in future. He does links, too, by the way!
Steve is such a legend on the crawler scene. I built up a Capra a few years ago and decided to get more serious about it and went with the Vader delrin flat skid and worked with Steve to get the right shock combo and slightly longer links to stretch it out just a bit. He helped me sort out what Axial kit to buy for the drivelines, too. I was instantly getting lines on my backyard course that I had tried 100 times and only gotten twice and was amazed at some of the other features I started getting in the mountains on natural terrain. This really transformed my rig. I'm also not an affiliate, just a fan of what he is offering to the community. Now if I could just talk him into making 1/24 scale shocks!
Steve doesn't do affiliates, for what it's worth. I bought 5 sets of shocks from him last month and paid the same as you or anyone else would. The man knows what he's about, for sure! I'm loving mine so far! I'll do a follow up vid later this year talking about the changes 😎
1st, congratulations Craig on taking the 2nd place 👏. Been hearing about pricey shocks for a while. Didn't realize he's from Aussie. Excellent shocks from what I heard. Might be enquiring some soon.
Congrats on the finish💪 not a comp guy myself but the mini's look like a lot of fun, I've only ever watched bits and pieces of 10th scale comps but if you have to winch to make a line I figure you can't make it 😅 anyway great rig thanks for sharing.
Haha right, that's my thinking somewhat with Scale-1. I've got the winch for the scale point but I never use it. Comps are not for everyone, but they're often something that takes people by surprise when they first try one. Very fun. If the culture is positive, that time and point pressure completely changes how you look at clearing obstacles. It's a very enjoyable pursuit.
That was Awsome I’m loving my feather weight! See you added little green piece in back to mee length! I hadnt gotten new tires on until last night mounted up some dlux offered the hp rover I like my ruptures so much had to get them. Should make big diff, the stock tires are nice with no foams the way they come and extra weight I am surprised at their abilities. The rc4wd pins are out of stock thanks to you 😁. I run most rigs no springs front banded, haven’t banded this yet it hurts breakover but sidehill and steep nothing better. My HT feather is no springs and the weight in front dos Awsome just when get to like a 60 plus angle it does lift but thanks to your design it is light and doesn’t lift tires tilll well into the 60 degree plus crawls
That's an interesting approach, the lack of springs. I suspect Pricey's method will be slightly better than that, but your approach is certainly creative and interesting to consider too. It's probably better than stock, in many cases. Rovers, you say! That is what was running on 1st and 3rd place rigs, both psycho pat based builds with Pink Bits Custom Crawlers or Hitman chasses. (that made my budget victory even sweeter, hehe) Thanks again for pointing out the problem with my chassis length. I'm so grateful! Easily fixed and the extra
Ohhh I’m sure his shocks are better. But for most part I’ve found spring removal an easy super shock upgrade. Then band the front. Rear drops down front stays attached to that front axle weight. If in banded chassis does fall away quickly but that’s ok as long as not hitting super insane angles. Love way mine is sitting with no springs stock shocks front highest hole, rear 3 down from top. Love this thing. I just need to get battery behind instead of on top of my servo and idk what else I’d do other than maybe shorten front links etc and lengthen rear….i haven’t gotten into those yet!!! Thanks you are Awsome dude!
Haha such a great question! So, I found the car wasn't quite WRCCA-compliant, right before Nationals! So I hustled to create an extension that would be lightweight, sturdy and out of the way. This little addition adds 11g plus 4 screws to secure it, so it did the trick. When I redesign this thing (it's coming, but other projects are ahead of it), I'll have the dimensions better planned!!
Hey I forgot to say it while ago but mofo RC is having a huge sale on UA-cam TV 18 camera brass axle steering links skid plate all kinds of different things
You had a great finish with the second place. I am not sure I understand all of the interview. But, I will bookmark this episode and go back when I build one. You really gave that servo award workout.
Haha yes the servos work awfully hard on comp day. The gist of the interview was that we want shocks that keep the sprung weight of the chassis drawn low, kinda like enforced droop with those internal springs. They can still articulate but they keep the body sucked low to the ground for longer, at whatever the desired ride height is. Bottom line, when you want his help, Pricey will help you get achieve ride height, whatever it is you want, and the travel you need for when the rig drops a wheel into obstacles. Isn't it great to have that option! I need to get all my rigs sorted, now!
Yes, but Pricey's approach is more sophisticated, with deliberately selected springs to achieve a specific effect, based on the subject vehicle. But yes, you're on the right track.
Yes, it's an old trick. But Pricey even says in this interview that they specifically don't do that. The shocks are built to meet the ride height desired for the crawler you have, based on its sprung and unsprung weight.
Very impressive run! It looked really nice crawling over those rocks with ease. Congrats on placing 2nd! I loved the interview during the second half of the video. He really knows his shocks and seems passionate about his product which is a great combination. I look forward to checking those out for a future build.
Thanks Chris :) I've known Pricey a while and it's way overdue that we check out some of his gear on the channel! He's the real deal. He's also responsible for our Tuff Truck class in the Aussie comps, now. It's really fun!
I was having this chat with Pricey and it hit me too - I asked him to wait a minute, I ran to get my camera, and we started the chat again. Great opportunity for all of us!
I feel like I've been missing this info all this time, that there are shocks that maintain desired ride height but still articulate when needed. It's exciting!
It's going to be about a fortnight until I have all the footage. Folks are sending me portable drives with it. But I've been uploading what I've got already this week. Here are the other mini runs I have footage of: 2024 ECCF Mini 1.9: ua-cam.com/play/PLDJ1u6BChxVHWNSuBhOmQX9g_OF42Fze8.html

I got to pick his brain over dinner that night too. Super knowledgeable guy with 1:1 tough truck experience behind him.

Just learn't something about RC Crawler shocks. looks like once I finish the mods on my mini I'll be calling Pricey.

Yep, he's an Aussie, just like me. Long history in motorsports, before rc, too. Knows his stuff like the master he is 👍
Congradulations

NIce run Craig!! Deadly impressive!! Unsprung is where its at!! Heavy wheels and as much mass on the axle as possible. :)
Thanks! It looks like I got lucky guessing how that worked when I designed my chassis and axle setup 😉
Neat course! Congrats!
Thanks for tips!
The courses were great, weren't they. Hard not to have such a great time in a place like that!
Wonder if he's going to do anything for the 24
I'll ask. That's a good question.

These are interesting ideas. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on that 👍
Steves awesome i have 3 sets. Two on each of my vs410s and 1 set on my stance rtr. Never an issue and they do what he said they are going to do.
Perfect. I've got an order for my VS4-10 Phoenix Portal, among others, now. Seems like the obvious upgrade now I know about it!
@@RCTNT Yes sir, you wont be disappointed. The only sad part for me is the long wait to get them shipped to America. 😂
@jmaxx211 great that he ships world wide tho! And yes a lot of people here run his gear, too. I don't know what took me so long to start with it!
What's the bright green part on the back of your rig for ?
Haha such a great question! So, I found the car wasn't quite WRCCA-compliant, right before Nationals! So I hustled to create an extension that would be lightweight, sturdy and out of the way. Hey I forgot to say it while ago but mofo RC is having a huge sale on UA-cam TV 18 camera brass axle steering links skid plate all kinds of different things
I'm guessing this message was verbally dictated, lol. You mean a sale on UTB18 gear? Cool, thanks!

Yes, but Pricey's approach is more sophisticated, with deliberately selected springs to achieve a specific effect, based on the subject vehicle. But yes, you're on the right track.
@@RCTNT If I recall correctly I saw one youtuber who put springs from ball point pens inside crawler shocks.
Yes, it's an old trick. But Pricey even says in this interview that they specifically don't do that. The shocks are built to meet the ride height desired for the crawler you have, based on its sprung and unsprung weight.
The shock guy Harley in them used him right
You're saying Josh used Pricey's shocks? That's not surprising, they're top shelf gear!
