Great info, just what I was looking for. I've got the DX, Drumtraks, Linndrum and about to replace some sounds. Really appreciate your thorough tutorial. Keep up the good job!
Wow thankyou Paul! Without your site I would never have been able to figure out any of this. It's truly a wonderful resource and your work is most appreciated!
Hello!! glad I revisited this video , question would you know where can I find a 40 pinZIF like in your video I see two types that you demo and that can fit nicely in the kawai r 50 DM socket ?? Let me know, thank you cheers!!
I got them at mouser - but the ones I have are 28 pin and 24 pin. Not sure if they have 40 pin but heres a link to the 28 pin mouser.com/ProductDetail/Aries-Electronics/28-526-10?qs=WZRMhwwaLl9nHDqf31PyaQ%3D%3D
For these particular machines you can use DMXWAV down the bottom of this page and I think the Promenade software on the same page also does it www.electrongate.com/software/index.html If you're looking for other machines (Drumulator, RZ-1 etc) check the links in the first sentence on this page zine.r-massive.com/drum-machine-sound-rom-decoder-suite/
I HAVE A HISTORICAL QUESTION ; does anyone know who, witch company(s) provided drum machine manufacturers like lynn, oberheim, or sci, and simmons (mtx9 and you're packed), with those classic sounds some of them share in theyre list. i mean alot of those sound are used in several units, i'm pretty shure someone specialised in recording and digitalising (Ulaw) drum sounds at the time was providing several compagnys with those drum codes to burn on eproms, but who? Ithink but i'm not shure, i mght remember reading somewhere that this ward Clavia's first activity, but i'm having trouble to find my info, and google has became useless for these types of reaserchs since a few years anyway....
So I'd probably start with one big file of 32768 bytes (4 x 2764 eproms) that has the whole sound then just copy paste every 8192 bytes into 4 smaller files. Pad the sound with 0's at the end if it doesn't fill all the chips.
Mr.Mullins .Can you please specify an external power unit and the specifications to add the extra power to help me make my eproms for sd1 sd9 etc.I have everything I need thus far I havent noodled with the software yet .I have eraser some vintage eproms and a pretty popular usb burner that should be able to do the job.I havent been successful in buying an external power source.I need to know the recommended requirements of the supply as far as voltage ,amps, wattage of the power suplly I need.At my own risk of course thanks alot for your time. Thanks for the vid.
Sorry I don't know what you need the power supply for - if your eprom programmer is not getting enough power you might need to try a different USB port or use a powered hub
I'm being told to use a bench power supply DC for the Simmons 21volt Eproms to be written on work on my xgecu 3rd gen utilizing the top left prong .This is my first attempt at any of this so please forgive my lack of knowledge.I just want to learn what I need to know to make my own Eproms and hopefully maybe program my own new sounds from scratch..Thanks .So generally a capable bench power supply in the basic affordable nature.Thanjs again
cool video!!! do you have a link of the ebay seller you buy your 2732 and 2764 eproms from or could you recomend one? also what are the part# of those black zif sockets you used in the video? Cheers
@@juztinmullinz Thank you so much! for the zif what is the difference between 28-526-10 and 28-526-11? are you using both on your drumtraks, both working? what is the part# for the black drum switch, do you buy them from mouser? I think a lot of those mid-80's drum machine use those switches too. Cheers
@@ginomakentino6719 I haven't replaced any switches - if you search around the internet you'll find guides on how to pull them apart and clean them to get them working again which seemed to work for me.
Damn,,, welp,,, so much for me spending $4K US on an Oberheim prommer,, the process involved to burn chips is not easy. I’m totally lost, appreciate your tutorial, but goddamn this just seems so freaking complex ☹️😣😖
Nice! Sliiightly off topic, but I love how the DX's hood just swivels up to change those EPROMs

Excellent - thank you! Been wanting to do this for awhile for my drumulator!
This page has some good info and tools for the drumulator - zine.r-massive.com/emu-drumulator-sound-rom-creator/

How would you go about splitting up one sound over multiple Eproms like the Crash?

You'd have to read the specs but I seem to remember there was versions with/without gold plated legs so that might be it? Not sure.
