    I feel honoured to have danced on the same stage as this heavenly dancer beautiful Eva in late 70’s to early 80’s with London Festival Ballet Co. Ethereal and graceful, balon like a floating cloud. She was pure grace & beautiful in heart & soul.
    I was a sylph in the Corp de ballet in the La Sylphide original production with Eva & Peter with LFB. It was so special!!! 🙋🏻💜

    She is exquisite. Gorgeous footwork, wondrous ballon, light as air, she seems to delicately touch the surface of the stage, great lyricism and musicality. Contemporary ballerinas could learn a great deal from her.

    I really think she was unparalleled as the Sylph (& Peter S. was fantastic) of her generation; possibly even better than Fracci. Wonderful in many other roles as well. And she was a lovely person to be around, work with and learn from. It's still hard to believe she's gone. Thanks for posting this.

    I've not seen a better Giselle or Sylph than her -- and I've seen many. She's incomparable! No one else comes close to her ethereal beauty; those exquisite arms, incredible footwork, ballon; she's light as a feather. What a wonderful ballerina! Wish I could have seen her in person, but I'm extremely grateful for these amazing clips! Thanks so much for posting!

    She held the respect of every ballet notable. I tried to catch every performance I could, which was difficult because of waiting for European companies to tour America. Always an inspiration, always a ballerina in the truest sense of the word. She was, with Fracci, the epitome of romantic ballet and was dedicated towards bringing it to life.

    It's hard to believe that this woman is my contemporary, and not a mid-19th century ballerina come to life! She has the soul of those times. No training can impart that quality - it is inborn and unique. Her quality is akin to that of Eleanora Duse - while Makarova is Sarah Bernhardt. I am so sorry I never saw her dance, when we both were young.

    The Sublime Evdokimova . this was the production done for the Festival Ballet -later English National by Schauffaus restoring some of the deleted dances and mime scenes from Sylphide which he had taken from the original Bournonville notation. Mary Skeaping did a similar reconstruction of Giselle for the same Company. reintroducing amongst other things, Giselles mother warning of the Wilis in Act 1 mime scene. After which several other companies reintroduced this mime passage.

      @AvalonMorley 6 місяців тому

      @@siegfried923 Oops-Someone didn’t watch the entire video, or they (singular) would have known that there’s quite a bit of footage of Eva, along with Vladimir Gelvan, dancing GISELLE here, as well as a solo from ESMERALDA. It’s definitely all very much worth seeing. (And, of course, Giselle is clearly not a malevolent wili; perhaps that malevolence takes time for these souls to develop, and Giselle will eventually be as cruel as any of them. Never really thought about that….)

    So sad that so many dancers today are so wound up in the technicalities of the steps, they lose the interpretation of the character they are playing.

    • @jillgooner
      @jillgooner 3 роки тому +4

      I agree completly Natalia osipova is too perfect but has the same facial expression no matter what role she is playing, I adore the lightness of Eva i could watch her all day long she just floats and doesnt need to jump high to achieve the required effect of being a Sylph, the two of them together are heaven. Peter again was a natural very strong dancer and great actor. Dancers today worry too much about putting thier leg next to the ear and extentions that look almost ugly. Nothing wrong with technic but at times it takes over.

    • @kabardinka1
      @kabardinka1 8 років тому +5

      Did. She sadly died from cancer in 2009. Eva danced a lot in Berlin, with the Royal Danish Ballet, with ABT, and, especially, at the London Festival Ballet in London. She toured with Nureyev during the 1970s and early 80s. But she was truly the most international ballerina... dancing a great deal in Buenos Aires, Paris, and she was a big star in Japan. She also guested with the Kirov during the 1980s and they seriously wanted her to be the first western dancer to join the company, that's how highly they thought of her.

    I met her in NY in 1993-4, when she was, sadly, looking for work, and hoping to appear with the St. Louis Ballet Company, hence she came to Nina Stroganova's studio to introduce herself, to the mother of the company's directors. But they couldn't raise the kind of money she wanted. I saw her appear with Nureyev on Broadway. She was clearly a real artist.
