A lot of current media is like popcorn drizzled with blackish goo and a huge contributor is the trashy nature of the delivery. Tom McDonald is violent trash, there's no quality and innovative structure to his songs of bloodshed, fighting, destruction, and etc and consequently can easily lend itself to corniness. And a huge part of this is, relevant material is essentially outdated by now.
