I've watched this ceremony more times than I can count. Greek friends are always able to explain the significance behind the different parts of the uniform, but not a one can ever explain to me the marching style. I'm still flummoxed.
Keith Montgomery The Swipe Back Steps represents the Hooves of Horses. The Long High Step Overs represents stepping over Dead Bodies. There is a lot more symbolism, but those are a few I can think if off the top of my Head..😇
Stupid laughing tourists. Stop being disrespectful. They wear their uniform with pride. If you can't hold your tongue, don't show up to take pictures. :(
my particular comment goes to someone with the youtube name Piontro Pechetrini...Your comment was pure bull shit...buddy leave it, you do not have humor!!!
Yes, I understand, but the silly walks destroy the spirit of solemnity, and makes the ceremony ridiculous, like in North Korea. Why can´t they march like ordinary soldiers?
Kalahulabamba No they don't destroy the spirit of solemnity...!!! The Evzones are selective soldiers from the Greek Army!!!! The History of the Evzones starts from 1867!!! They are symbols of bravery...and They belong to the Presidential Guard. They may have this peculiar gait, but this makes them stand out from the ordinary soldiers!!! That's why they march like this....I hope I am understood...!!!
My dad was in front of the Greek Parliament biuilding, admiring it. When all of a sudden, a group of Evzones, just like the ones in the video, walked right into him, and kept marching on like nothing happened. My dad was just standing there like, "WTF just happened?" Then his brother explained the Evzones to him, and it made more sense. But as for their uniforms and marching style? Well...

For those who laugh at the pom poms on their feet, you should know inside of it is small knifes that in battle they kick into the enemy
