In Tunisia, gay people can be sentenced to three years in prison, simply for their sexual orientation. When arrested by the police, they are subject to an “anal examination”, a humiliating procedure of no scientific value.Uganda is one of the 27 sub-Saharan countries in which homosexuality is repressed, with active state-encouragement of homophobia, and where homosexuality is punishable by lifetime imprisonment.
In the United States, more progressive laws have not translated into progressive attitudes. 700,000 Americans, in a desperate attempt to change their sexual orientation, have gone to see therapists who claim to be able to “transform any homosexual into a heterosexual.”
This documentary was produced by Ligne de Front and directed by MICHAELLE GAGNET. It was first released in 2019.

Religion is often used as a tool to hate gay people. Yet, I'm not aware of any religion that shows Jesus, for example, has or was a sexual being. Therefore, how can the average person read the word of their god and apply the maxim 'What would Jesus do'? I believe the area is grey so that each individual has the scope to decide, and be true to themselves without been hated or punished for their choice or the way they feel.

The first homophobic attack I faced was at school in jamaica, I was in grade 8. Was beaten senseless and the school did nothing, this continued every year until I left that school. I still have trauma dreams at least 4 nights each week about that period of my life. Even after I left school during early adulthood, I still faced intense homophobia and in the workplace the face of it changed and that's when I knew I'd never be happy and decided to seek asylum in Canada. I genuinely wish other gay men, more so young gay men would have that same opportunity to seek safety and live safely.
