I never fully appreciated this song as a teenager when it came out, but now oh man it's such a fantastic piece...To anyone who has ever been in love with a distant/emotionally unavailable person this is so relatable and hits the nail on the head for how you want to be the one to show them true love and heal their loneliness, but alas, the problem lies within them and only they can fill their own void....

Not to bore u all with a sob story but here goes: I was late to this song, heard it first in ‘05 when I was 12 and dealing with an (at best) inconsistent father. Around this time I treat him rather coldly as a way to protect myself. Cut to now, we have the best relationship we’ve ever had BY FAR, I trust, love, respect and care about him in a way I never have but this song still gets me. It was only recently I fully realised the reason for my emotional attachment to this song as I’d never connected the dots before….
I played this to my father a few days ago, made him listen to every word twice and explained how that song summed up my journey with him at the time. He cried, apologised (again) for the past, then told me how grateful he was that our relationship had progressed to the stage where I could share that with him, feel safe to do so and without any malice, resentment etc towards him. He took it for what I was: a sign of how far our relationship has come and how deep it’s got. It was a beautiful moment that I’m so happy happened. Was already a lifelong Brandy fan and play her music all the time but now she’s played an important role in helping me express to my father not only how I felt then but how I feel now also.
Already had a world of gratitude for ur music and it’s influence/impact on me but now, more than ever before: THANK YOU BRANDY!! ❤️❤️
